I have always been a huge fan of K.M. Scott books for years. I fan girl all over the place when I hear she has a new book coming. I loved Hard Work and loved harder on Zane. At first I was unsure if I was going like him. He was very difficult at the beginning. Stubborn and sarcastic man. He seemed like he could not really learn how love for love. It was all the fame, fortune, and freedom with Zane. Until he was left with his mothers B&B Inn. I really see how the author made her own version of Beauty and the Beast. It seemed that Zane was cold as stone, until Becca. Becca is kind and loving. She is sassy and holds no bars to anyone that tries to walk all over her. Zane is down for the count before he even started. But little by little we finally saw that Zane may have a heart after all. My thoughts on the book? I loved every bit of it! I loved seeing Becca bring Zane to his knees. When he would mess up and become a jerk, she would walk away. She was not there to hold his hand or turn a blind eye. This is what makes Zane finally open up and stop taking life for granted. But at what cost? Are these two ever going to make it? And lets talk about how hot these two tear it up in between the sheets. Your temperature will rise at least 10 degrees higher! I was captivated and had a hard time putting this book down. Hard Work is a definite page turner!

I’m always happy when KM Scott announces a new book. I’ve loved the ones I’ve read and I loved Hard Work. The writing is amazing. I adored the epilogue and it was a beautiful ending to this book. Becca needs to be away from everything for a while. She decides to go to the inn where she loves to go to relax. The owner of that inn recently passed away and the inn is now owned by her son, Zane. Zane never liked the inn when he was younger and he still doesn’t, but he needs to own it for one year to inherit all his mother’s money. He isn’t nice to his employees and he hates all the work that he needs to do at the inn. Zane really isn’t happy there. Zane and Becca were a couple once. They loved each other very much, until one day Zane left without saying something to Becca. Becca was devastated. She eventually moved on, but she hasn’t been successful in relationships. She is shocked to see Zane again. He isn’t the same man as she remembered, but she’s still attracted to him. Zane has never forgotten Becca and he hopes for another chance. Becca is an amazing woman. She’s sweet, friendly, caring, sassy, passionate and talented. She owns her own business and it’s a successful one. She loves her job and she’s creative. Becca truly loves the inn and the people who work there. It’s a great escape to be there. She can’t believe that Zane doesn’t want to be there. Becca is hesitant to give Zane another chance, but sparks always fly when she’s with him. There was a lot of push and pull, and I wished that there were more scenes of them as a couple instead of the time jump. Zane wasn’t always easy to love. He was rude, closed off and not happy at the beginning of the book. I understood him after knowing his reasons, but I guess I wanted him to make an effort to make it work. He’s so different than his mother and his employees don’t like him. Zane does change when Becca comes back into his life. He wants to be better for her. He will fight for her and he would do anything for her. I loved the setting, the inn. It’s so peaceful there. It’s far away from the city and there is a beautiful environment. I understand why Becca goes there to be away from everything. The people who work there are great characters. They work hard. Some were fun, others were very friendly and caring.

HARD WORK by K. M. Scott is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic romance story line focusing on a second chance romance between thirty year old advertising executive and divorcee Becca Fox, and Vermont Inn owner Zane Gilford. Told from dual first person perspectives (Becca and Zane) HARD WORK follows the rekindling romance between advertising executive Becca Fox, and Zane Gilford-a man whose California lifestyle is about to change. With the recent death of his mother, Zane Gilford would inherit everything she was and owned including her beloved Vermont Inn she christened The Gilford House Inn but a caveat and proviso was added to the will- a stipulation forces Zane to run the Inn successfully for one year or forfeit the entire fortune. Enter Becca Fox, a Manhattan advertising executive and the woman with whom Zane would fall in love, but a woman scorned by her previous relationships including the one with our story line hero. What ensues is the rebuilding romance between Zane and Becca, and the on going fall out as Zane continues to prove that he has yet to grow up or take responsibility for his immature actions. Years earlier Zane Gilford walked out of Becca’s life without a backwards glance leaving our heroine heartbroken and stunned as to the how and why. Fast forward to present day wherein Zane commissions Becca to help promote his mother’s Inn, a task that is meant to pull Becca back into his life….but Zane and Becca’s reintroduction is less than amicable as Becca witnesses the wrath of a man accustomed to getting his own way. Zane grew up the spoiled and only child of a wealthy business owner, and in the ensuing years has never learned to appreciate his mother’s ability to manage and love. The relationship between Becca and Zane is one of second chances but Zane’s cringe-worthy, immature attitude, and emotional outbursts directed at staff fills our heroine with disgust and revulsion towards the man she once loved. As months pass, and their relationship is taken to a sexual level Zane will continue to destroy Becca’s faith in a possible future with our story line hero, with his over the top reactions, and the reappearance of a former love. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense. The use of a certain four-letter word that I have previously deemed repugnant and ill-used in a romance story line is unnecessary and undesirable. We are introduced to Becca’s friend and PA Amy; as well as several employees at The Gilford House Inn who struggle to keep their new boss happy and pleased. HARD WORK is an easy read (ala Beauty and the Beast) that skips weeks to months at a time where in the interim Becca and Zane’s relationship continues to grow. The premise is entertaining and captivating; the romance is provocative and seductive; the characters are charismatic, colorful and energetic once you get past Zane’s adolescent behaviour and emotional outbursts. HARD WORK is a stand alone, erotic story line that calls to the romance lover in everyone.

Hard Work is a great title for this book because it takes a lot of hard work for Zane Gilford to be a nice guy. His mother has left some stipulations in her will and to say Zane is not happy about them is a grand understatement. Zane is confident, sexy, egotistical, arrogant, snobby, cocky, and privileged, and the fact that he has to leave beautiful California for a little Bed & Breakfast in Vermont, certainly doesn't help his attitude any at all. Becca Fox, loves to go Vermont to the Gilford House Inn, it's her getaway. And believe me she has someone in her life that she definitely needs to get far away from. She never expected to meet up with Zane there, years ago she thought they meant something to one another but judging by the way he left her, she was mistaken. Becca is independent, smart, beautiful and feisty, she does not bite her tongue with Zane, putting him in his place with a quickness. "Everyone deserved respect" is her motto, and that's how she tried to live her life. She is also a forgiving person, she would have to be to put up with Zane. I must say that I fell in love with the Gilford House Inn and the people that worked there, K.M. Scott sure bought the place to life within the pages of this book. And even with all his faults, Zane comes across as a real person, who knows he has issues that he has to change if he wants Becca to even like him. It was interesting to see his transformation, and by the end I found myself falling for him too, cockiness and all. So get ready for a great read, with lots of feelings, passion and romance!
