Matthews takes you behind the stage to show you what you've always suspected. An entertaining and educational book on American politics. A must read for anyone that likes to follow politics. High Schools should add this book to their civics' curriculum.

This book is a hard-hitting, tell-it-like-it- is collection of stories told by a true Washington insider. Anyone interested in the workings of our national government-- especially those looking to crack onto the scene--need to read this book. If nothing else, it will entertain you by revealing stories of famous politicians before they made a name for themselves.

The first part of the book includes a narrative that equates corruption as a historical tenent of politics; LBJ and some of his "dealings" for example. Chris has not held a political office so as he tries to continue with the theme of his.book, and define corruption further he substitutes innocous personal bias for what should have stayed closer to journalism. Chris is notoriously shallow with his accussations, and rarely.lets facts get in the way of his prejudices and political beliefs. This book is another ecample of.Chris' passive/aggressive style and unnatural affection for any thing Democract. His writing, like his t.v. show is a good reminder that even simple minded people can find work. D

Overall a good book, really helps explain how power is obtained in Washington. Chris doesn't go into as much detail as i expected and the book is really short to be claimed as the must read to get into Washington. He has been in the game for a long time but doesn't mean he knows everything, Chris officially hasn't been a politician himself so his point of view is limited.

Chris Mathews HARDBALL is a colorful, animated, inspiring book about the trials and tribulations of big-time POLITICS in a real-time REPUBLIC. Chris tells it like-it-is while describing the highs, lows, successes, and the agonies of defeat as a true insider who has observed (with relish) behind the scenes, memorializing the past and current events with his own special 'spin and savvy'. If you know (or want to know) the 'players' but don't know the real 'rules of the game', you need to read HARDBALL --- waiting for you at Barnes and Noble.

THIS BOOK WAS A HARDHITTING WAKE UP CALL ON MY KNOWLEDGE OF POLITICS,IT REALLY WAS AN EYEOPENER ON THE CORRUPTIVE VIEW OF POLITICS TODAY. THE FIRST CHAPTER BASICLY TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE GREAT AND CORRUPT POLITICIANS, SUCH AS LBJ.

As a self-described political junkie, this book is truly engrossing. I¿m on my second reading. Thank you, Mr. Mathews.

I thought that this book was a complete waste of money. The entire book could be summed up in the titles of the chpaters. The actual 'content' consisted of name dropping and promotion for his own show.

Hardball was extremely interesting, kind of like a modern-day Prince (Machiavelli) mixed with a little of Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card); it's like Ender's Game in that it really holds your attention while giving you key rules of thumb

This book is a waste of time and money. Unless you have to read this book there would be no sense in purchasing it.

The book is boring and a complete waste of time and money. God, there is nothing more boring than reading this book. If it wasn't for the government class i am taking, i would burn the book into ashes. Can't believe those people call it the Politicians handbook or guide into the white house card-box. Gee....don't read the book unless you are completely into how people gain their power...
