Dale Mayer's work is always outstanding and Haunted by Death is no exception. As the tale is revealed, the elements of the past and present weave together to create a magnetic story that pulls the reader further and further into the story. Wonderful well developed characters help bring the story to life as we root for the shadow that has hung over these people to be cleared away and for the ultimate answer to be revealed. As always, there are a couple of twists the shake up the characters and maybe the reader. Nine young adults spent the weekend at the lake 17 years ago, but only 8 came home. For 17 years the shadow of suspicion has hung over the group and the experience reshaped their lives. Now one of the group has discovered a skeleton that may be the missing friend. This discovery once again changes the dynamics of life for many of the group. I read this book in the anthology, Killer Romances.
I read my first Dale Mayer book just a bit over a week ago and am now just finished my 5th book....thoroughly enjoy the books!
Loved the book. You can never go wrong reading a book written by Dale Mayer.
Dale Mayer has done it again. Haunted by Death is an excellent psychological thriller that you will not want to put down, even when you reach the final page. Seventeen years ago Meg Pearce and Chad Ingram had it all; the love and a good outlook for the future but all that was lost with the disappearance of a friend while on a camping trip with a group of friends. Flash forward seventeen years, looking for closure, Anthropologist Meg Pearce revisits the place that destroyed her life and makes a discovery that brings the past to the present day. This discovery brings Detective Chad Ingram back into her life and gives them both a chance to bring closure to the past and hope for the future. Although I had the “who done it” figured out, the story line kept me intrigued. I must add that the characters pull you in and the story line flowed smoothly enough to complete the book in one sitting.
