About the Author

Kathi Daley is the best selling author of the Zoe Donovan Cozy Mystery Series and the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Cozy Mystery Series. She has published twelve books in the last year and has plans to publish another twelve in 2015.

She lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and Bernese mountain dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, she likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese), and garden (planting and planning, not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.

Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Won this book on GoodReads. This was the first book I read from Kathi and I enjoyed the thrill. As I kept reading I was trying to figure out was the house haunted or was there really a killer? I loved how Zoe isn't a cop but she zero in on feelings that someone is up to something and that they might be linked to the case at hand. She is such an excellent detective who really doesn't think the trouble she might get in for snooping around. I love the relationship she has with Zak and they are made for each other. She had me at the edge of my seat walking into that creepy house on numerous times in the dark. Is she crazy or what. I am a scared cat so I cannot be as brave. Looking forward to reading more about Zoe Donovan.

I really enjoyed this book of the series. I love that it takes you back to the scene of the first murder of the series, nice touch. This house seems to have a haunted history, of course we have a murder which keeps you guessing. There is the fun of getting ready for Halloween and Zak going crazy with decorations. I love that Ellie has calmed down since the last book, and of course all other friends and family are back. Totally enjoyable, I am moving on to the next in the series. Bonus is that there are some yummy sounding recipes too.

This story unveils a complex situation from years ago that has repercussions today. The basic story is the characters and town gearing up for a big Halloween festival. Thrown into the mix is an unexpected ex (The lead character's reaction I found annoying) and a dead (seemingly murdered) ghost hunter. The death/murder has links to things that happened some years ago and finding the right questions to ask and whom to ask them of, is the trick. Quite engaging.

As others have said, I do believe this is my favorite Zoe Donovan novel so far. I want to move to Ashton Falls! Halloween is Zoe's favorite holiday, and mine as well. The Haunted Hamlet is a major town affair and a necessary fundraiser for the town's budget, including paying for a new fire engine. It is fun getting to know each town character better, watching the interactions between them. The animals add a charm and cute factor to each story. The main thread throughout the book is about murder - both that of a visiting ghost hunter, as well as those that happened thirteen years ago at the same location. How are the murders related? Are they related?  Who knows more than they are telling? Besides the murder and mystery thread, other conflicts arise, keeping the reader feeling part of the town's inner circle. Whose lives are going to be changed, what relationship obstacles and opportunities arise this time? Besides a winning tale, this book gives us delicious recipes for our own gatherings, and the promise of more Ashton Falls to come! I was allowed ana dvance copy of this book in exchange for anhonest opinion. My opinion - LOVE it and can hardly wait for the next one!

Kathi Daley writes about life in a rural small town. She has completely captured the people that you would meet at the corner market and at the town meetings. Think Gilmore Girls, but instead of an inn, Zoe runs an animal sanctuary, and instead of searching for what makes her happy, Zoe is searching for murderers. One thing I like about these books is the bad guy is not evident until close to the end, another is the relationships of the characters. I also like that the books have a theme; Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, so far. In Haunted Hamlet the real crime takes place 13 years before at the haunted house the town is planning to use for their Halloween fund raiser. That is they planned to use it until Zoe finds a fresh dead body.

Zoe is enjoying the season. Halloween is her favorite holiday. Her boyfriend, Zak, is deep into decorating for trick or treat. They are having fun. How quickly thing change! When they find a body in the spooky Henderson House, Zoe switches to investigative mode. Was the death accidental or murder? Was it connect to the unsolved deaths that happened there years ago? I loved this story. Zoe and Zak are such a wonderful couple. They are intelligent and caring. I enjoy watching them solve the mystery. I love that they are surrounded by their friends and their loving animals. The town of Ashton Falls provides the perfect setting for this suspenseful mystery. All the characters are charming and add to the story. Kathi Daley is such a talented author. Her stories flow smoothly and the twists take you by surprise. I couldn't believe who the culprit was. I was caught completely by surprise. The Haunted Hamlet is a perfect treat for Halloween. I love the Zoe Donovan Mysteries.
