First issued in 1972 and long out of print, this new edition features new photographs and a new Foreword by Dr. John Hennen, Appalachian labor historian at Morehead State University. George Titler came to Harlan County in 1937 to help the UMWA organize coal miners. Over his four tumultuous years in "Bloody Harlan," he and his friends survived car bombings, hotel bombings, machine gun ambushes, and other assassination attempts.
