New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series—The Amish of Hart County—with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker.

After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she’s getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn’t too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone—even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she'll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was.

For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called “The Recluse” confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he's misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God’s gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there’s always more to someone than meets the eye.

Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

This captivating, page turner will draw you in and hold you tight! Ms. Gray has taking the Amish romance genre to another level. There have been a number of Amish mysteries to hit the market in the past few years and I have found them to be quite enjoyable. In Her Secret, a stalker is making Hannah Hilty’s life miserable. To complicate matters, her family does not quite take it as seriously as they should. Hannah is alone with her problem and her fears. The reader knows from the start that the stalking is real and like most situations of this kind….you don’t know what is going to set this man off again, or how far he will go to up the anty. Few books have truly left chills running up my spine but this one certainly has! Her Secret had me reading faster to find out what happens next and oh-so-afraid to turn the page!

Loved the book! What a great story Shelley has told here, she pulls you in and keeps you on your toes as you continue to read, not wanting to put it down. I am so looking forward to the next one in the series, "His Guilt", due out on July 4th with two more to follow. I am so recommending this book to my friends!

Amish plus mystery all tied up in a wonderful book. It was hard to put it down. I fell in love with the characters who seemed so real. I felt like part of their family. The Inspirational thread and the great writing also helped to make this a fantastic read. I can't wait to read her next book in this series when it is released.

Her Secret is about an ordinary Amish girl living with her family going about her life until one day she meets a man that will not take no for an answer. And so begins his manipulations and his fearful control over her well-being including that of her family as well. Hannah’s entire family up and moves from Ohio to Kentucky after Hannah’s stalker takes things a little too far with his photographs. Trying to come out of her shell that fear has locked her into, she begins to timidly make new friends in her new hometown. As she begins to open up and live again she is faced with problems at home with her brother and sister and their resentment towards her for the move. Her parents are no help as they drop another bombshell on the family that only increases the distance between each of them till all five seem to be living separate lives. That is really what stood out to me in this novel. That this seemingly close-knit family let secrets keep them apart. And how once the secrets were no longer kept in hiding, understanding, love, and grace came pouring in. Forgiveness played a strong role as well. This was a little bit of a creepy read for me as Hannah was always looking over her shoulder and too many times let fear paralyze her. I enjoyed watching her and her family come to terms not only with opening up to each other, but becoming part of their new community and learning the lesson that we sometimes need other people to help us carry our burdens. I received a copy of the book for free through Litfuse. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.

This is a suspenseful story, albeit a bit predictable, with plenty of character growth as Isaac, Hannah, and members of their families learn life lessons about compassion, family loyalty, and strength. Most of the characters' flaws are revealed at some point in the story, which makes them easier to relate to- knowing they aren't perfect and struggling with choices and behavior. The person that was the hardest to understand was Hannah's little sister Jenny, who feels uprooted and places the blame entirely on Hannah, but has secrets of her own that she fails to communicate to her family. Isaac is charming and likeable, and his attentiveness and protectiveness for Hannah only makes him more so as time goes on. The level the story is written on is a bit simple, without the depth of emotion I've been used to from recent Amish fiction I've read, but it was an entertaining book and one that I wouldn't have a problem recommending to ages teen to adult. (I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)

Her Secret is the first in a new Amish series from Shelley Shepard Gray, focused on the Amish of Hart County in Kentucky. This book had a nice balance of suspense mixed in, which was a nice addition to this love story set in the Amish community. The Amish youth have a period in their life when they are allowed to explore their world before committing to join the church, it is referred to as 'running around' or Rumspringa. This period normally begins around the age of 14 to 16 and ends when a youth chooses baptism within the Amish church. It is also commonly the time when they court and look for a spouse. In Her Secret, we find out that it was during her running around that Hannah dates a young Englischer named Trent. It made me wonder, with the conservative life that the Amish leave, are their youth more likely to misjudge the character of a young man than non-Amish youth. I would guess that when someone is being sweet on you, that regardless of your upbringing, there is a tendency to ignore signs that should probably be warnings. The two went on only a few dates and the stalking did not necessarily start right after they stopped seeing each other, but as we later learn (I can't tell you why - you have to read it to find out) there were likely other influences that caused Trent to become jealous and start stalking her. The family moved away to escape the threat of this young man stalking their daughter (turns out that's not the only reason - but again, you will have to read to find out the other reason). They finally started to settle into their new community and begin to make friends, not realizing that the threat is not yet over. This book was captivating, suspenseful and had me hooked from the beginning. The story was filled with characters that are easy to relate to and has the right balance of friends and family, love and suspense. It showed the importance of open communication to keep a family strong and of depending on those around you in times of need. I wanted to keep reading and was a little disappointed when it ended. For now, I will have to wait on future installments in the Amish of Hart County series to keep learning more about they Hilty and Troyer families and how their stories continue to unwind. A complimentary review copy was provided through Litfuse Publicity. All opinions expressed are my own.

Her Secret is not your typical Amish story. With a heroine whose family has had to relocate because of a stalker, it was definitely not a story I had seen done before. It kept me turning the pages! I really enjoyed this novel. I could feel Hannah’s nervousness as she went through her days, all due to the events from the past year. The story was full of secrets, frustations, anger, suspicions, and fears, yet had a beautiful romance that wove its way through the pages. I thought the author did a very good job at showing how an Amish family might deal with this type of stalker situation. There were things they handled well and things they didn’t. It felt fresh and real. I definitely recommend it to fans of romantic suspense. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This is a story that we hear about in mainstream America, but this takes place with the Amish community, stalking and the horrors that go along with it. In this book we have the Hilty family leaving their friends and family in Ohio and moving to Kentucky, what a hard time for all in the family. I think moving is not easy for anyone, but with the tight community ties the Amish have, this move must have been devastating for the family, especially the younger members. When an unstable person threatens another, no matter where they live it seems to affect more than that individual, but all of those around them and their families. I can’t even comprehend the fear that must have gone along with their move, and then? I did love how this Amish community rallies around those in need, and how the fundraiser seems to pull everyone together. All through this book I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, and expecting the worse, and now you will need to join me in the page turning. I received this book through Lit Fuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

Author Shelley Shepard Gray has always delighted me with her stories. "Her Secret" is no exception. When Hannah has nothing else to do to be safe she runs away. There is someone following her and they are not nice. She is living with her family in a new town but still afraid. One of her neighbors wants to talk to her more but she is acting very mysterious. When they finally start to feel okay with each other the worst happens. Will Hannah take off again? Will she find enough faith to stay? Will she and her new neighbor ever have a new life? I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book by Litfuse Publicity Group and all opinions are mine.

Her Secret is Shelley Shepard Gray's first book in a new series, an Amish story with a touch of suspense. If you read a lot of Amish fiction, you may find the setting of this series to be a bit unfamiliar. The story is mostly set in Hart County, Kentucky, away from the typical Amish settings in places like Lancaster County and Holmes County. As Shelley has the Hilty family settle into their new home, she brings in details about this unfamiliar area. The plot of the story has some intriguing twists that keep the story moving pretty well, although it does get a little bogged down at times. Most of the characters are interesting and develop well throughout the story. The suspense, love story, and faith mix well with the other elements to make for an enjoyable read for fans of Amish fiction. Thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group for providing a copy of Her Secret. I was glad to share my thoughts in this review.

Her Secret is a tale that will keep you turning the pages! Shelley Shepard Gray is an engaging storyteller, and the atmosphere of this story and the emotions of its characters are palpable. Each member of the Hilty family has been affected by the events that drove them to make a fresh start, and their reactions vary as secrets are revealed and danger threatens. A great blend of compelling suspense and charming romance, I thoroughly enjoyed Her Secret and look forward to revisiting The Amish of Hart County! I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

Hannah Hilty lives her life in fear...debilitating fear...so much so that she is thought of as a recluse in the new town she lives in. Hannah is a victim of a stalker. His devious mind will not let her go. When the Hilty family moves to escape from this dangerous man, he intends to follow until he gets what he wants. Her Secret, Shelley Shepard Gray's first stand alone novel in The Amish of Hart County series, has all the elements of a great suspenseful story. There are family secrets, a disturbed stalker, a sweet and fearful protagonist, a caring neighbor, accusatory siblings, and the power of God and a strong sense of faith to overcome evil. This 5 star read is indeed a heart pounding book. I experienced the highs and lows along with the characters. I was fearful at some points but just couldn't put the book down! It is a powerful work of fiction and I encourage you to pick up your own copy. You will not be disappointed! I received a copy of the book from the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.

Hannah and her family have moved to a new state for a new start to their lives. But did the move accomplish what they were all hoping for, or did they just exchange one set of problems for another? Shelley Shepard Gray winds this story into your heart and mind with a perfect amount of tension. I absolutely loved this story, and am very excited that it is Book #1 of a new series for her. I urge you to go to your favorite retailer and pre-order this one, it's a winner! I was given a digital copy of this book for an honest review. It was my pleasure to do so.

Described as suspenseful. And it is. I would not add thriller to the description which I think sometimes becomes part of a book with this type of story line... A suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker. I was not on the edge of my seat. But I will say I picked this book up yesterday at around 10 a.m. about 12 hours later I turned the last page . Yes. I read it in one day. Did the book keep my attention? I would say so. The story flowed in a steady pace from page 1. It did pick up rather quickly nearly to the end when it's discovered the stalker is in town and up to his old tricks. I have to say I really loved the main characters Hannah and Isaac. They were a pleasure to get to know. This wasn't a story where they meet, get together, have conflict, then get back together in the end. They pretty much met, became friends then became closer friends and ended courting with plans to marry in the end. There was no family interferance or other distraction for the couple. In fact everyone seemed to agree that Hannah and Isaac were a great couple. The stalker really only made a very brief appearance at the very end when his identity was revealed at about the same time he became bolder in his activities. The characters really didn't seem to jump off the page for me. In fact I actually didn't really like Hannah's family. The drama and trauma of the stalking which preceded the move to a new town basically caused the entire family to blame Hannah. Their treatment of her including her parents I thought was a bit harsh. The parents had some personal underlying difficulties and did redeem themselves in the end in the end but I just didn't connect with them or the other children in the family. Hannah's younger sister played a big part in the story. Her character did not display the religious beliefs of the family and acted out in ways that caused Hannah more trauma. I enjoyed Her Secret. I really like a book that I can't put down! I look forward to reading more in this series. I received a complimentary copy from Litfuse. This review will appear at retail sites were the book is available. This review will appear on Good Reads, My Journey Back and Springtime In Magnolia.

I’m still doing a giddy little happy dance after reading Her Secret. Why? Because I changed my mind multiple times as to who I think the title is about. Because this ain’t your grandma’s Amish fiction – it’s a little edgy (in the best ways) while still retaining the sweetness that is a trademark of Gray’s writing. Because the suspense toys with “psychological thriller” status (and i LOVE that). Because the romance is charming and tender. And because tucked away gently in the pages of this great Amish romance thriller (yes, you read that right) is a message of looking beyond yourself, of realizing that more goes on in life than what directly – or indirectly – affects you, and encouragement for those who may feel alone. Bottom Line: It is no secret that I love suspense, I love romance, and I love books written by Shelley Shepard Gray. Combine all three? A recipe for a great read. Her Secret nicely sets the foundation for future books in the series, and I’m looking forward to meeting more Amish of Hart County! (I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.)

To what lengths would you go to protect your daughter from a stalker? Several possible answers probably come to mind, but are you Amish? If not, your answers may be quite different than the answers of an Amish parent. Keep in mind that most Amish do not believe in involving the police unless it is a last ditch effort. If your answer involved bodily harm to the perpetrator, remember that they are opposed to violence as well. So what options are left? For Hannah’s family, the solution was to move several hundred miles away in order to get her far from the stalker. Was this the best answer? You will have to read the book to find out if it solved the problem. I will say that Hannah and her family learned that secrets are hard to keep and can also prove to be very harmful to relationships. After such a stressful ordeal involving the stalker, could Hannah ever learn to trust again? And what could she do to remove the walls between her and her siblings who resented leaving their friends and all that was familiar behind? They blamed Hannah for all that they gave up. For those who think the Amish life is so simple and easy, you need to read this story to find out just how difficult life can be even for Plain folk. The story speaks to all of us at a very deep level. I recommend you read this book. I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
