Rating: 3.5 / 5. ***A big thank you to YA Bound Book Tours and Ms. Patrick for giving me an ARC of Hidden Deep*** When I read the summary for Hidden Deep, I was immediately hooked and knew I had to read it. I am happy to say that while it wasn't totally what I expected, I still enjoyed reading this book. The characters were fun, and the storyline was pretty interesting, plus the whole mystery with Lad and Nox kept me hooked. When I first started this book, I had a hard time getting into it because the beginning seemed to have started out slow, but as I continued reading, the story really picked up the pace and flowed smoothly for the most part. Like I said before, I really liked the storyline. The mystery behind who Lad was had me hooked to the book, plus the whole thing with fan pods was also very creative, even the though the story doesn't really go into much details on that. The paranormal aspect in this book was very unique and creative. It's not your usual paranormal book. I have only read about this topic in one other book series. I am not going to reveal what the paranormal topic is because I don't want to spoil the story for anyone. As for the characters, they were overall written very nicely. I loved the different personalities of each characters. They were all really fun, humorous, caring, and easy to relate with. However, there were a few things that kind of bothered me. One was the romance between Lad and Ryann, which seemed to have developed too quickly. It's wasn't exactly insta love or anything, but the pace at which their relationship progressed seemed too fast and unrealistic for me. Nevertheless though, I still loved reading about their friendship and it was nice seeing them interact with each other. The other thing that bothered me was that many important aspects of the book, which I felt were meant to be surprises, were just instead really predictable. I had already guessed important revelations in this book before they were even revealed, so there wasn't really that many surprise elements. Hidden Deep was a pretty fun book. It actually felt more like a prequel than an actual first book in the series. I really hope the next book is going to dive deeper into Lad's world and the fan pods, because I really find those two aspects of the story the most interesting. Overall, this was good book and I'll definitely be looking forward to reading the next one. If you like unique paranormal stories, than I definitely recommend this book!

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Amy Patrick, All Night Reads, and NetGalley.) “So you meet an amazing guy in the middle of the woods – why does this kind of thing never happen to me?” “I guess you should go skinny-dipping more often,” This was a YA paranormal romance, with creatures you’d expect to find in Lord of the Rings! I liked Ryann, although she did come across as a little immature at points. It was obvious how much she liked Lad though, and it was noble of her to sacrifice everything for his happiness. “I’m surprised your father let you leave with me – I’m surprised he me leave at all.” The storyline in this mainly dealt with Ryann and Lad getting to know each other, and Ryann trying to find a way to save the trees which were home to Lad’s family. I was a bit surprised when I found out what race Lad was supposed to be, as I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book with this type of paranormal creature in it. “It was impossible. It was crazy. And I knew it was true.” There was some romance, although it seemed like Ryann and Lad weren’t going to be able to be together and have a relationship because of the differences between them. “The kiss was perfect, firm but not too aggressive, gently exploring and inviting me to do the same.” The ending to this was fairly happy, but the epilogue then left us with a cliff-hanger. 6 out of 10

A new saga begins! Ryann Carroll is seventeen years old and has had her life turned totally upside down by her parents splitting up and her Dad riding off into the proverbial sunset leaving behind substantial taxes to be paid. Her Mum just doesn’t have the money to pay them and he’s disappeared without a care in the world. Ryann and her Mum move back to live with her Grandma. When she was small Ryann had got lost in the woodlands which her Grandma owns adjoining her garden. Her memories of this are mixed up but do include her being rescued by a strange boy that no one else seems to know about. It is assumed that she dreamt this but now she meets him again and mysteries start to be revealed about his life and the lives of his family and friends. You’ll need to read it yourself to find out more! I really enjoyed this story, with its total mix of teenage angst, family secrets, financial worries, elves and romance. It is well written with robust characters, familiar yet different settings and a great plot. It is an enjoying, enthralling read that left me wanting to read the rest of the trilogy as soon as possible! No doubt about it, this is a book a have no hesitation in highly recommending to teens, young adults and adults alike - a great ‘must read’ and the start to a great series. I will certainly be looking out for the sequels and other books by this great author! Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review.
