Reviewed by Anne Boling for Readers' Favorite I’m becoming quite a fan of Sandra Brown. Hidden Fires, like many of Ms. Brown’s books, has a delightful love story of two reluctant people with a strong physical attraction to each other. It is her formula and it works. In Hidden Fires we meet Lauren Holbrook who travels to the Texas territory to accept a job offer to be a receptionist. The young, innocent woman travels across the country to escape her pastor who tried to force himself on her and then tried to coerce her into marrying him. When she arrives at what she hopes will be a sanctuary, she discovers not the friendly welcome she anticipated. The Locketts make sure she knows she is not wanted or welcome at the family ranch. Ben has passed away without explaining to Lauren why he invited her to Texas. His plan was for her to marry Jared, who only goes along with the marriage because of a business deal. Both Lauren and Jared discover they are falling in love, but there is much standing in the way of their happiness.  Sandra Brown is a New Times Best Selling author. With each book she sets the standard higher, and yet with each subsequent book she manages to surpass the previous goals. She is a master at developing a feeling of longing in her characters. I loved the way Sandra Brown allowed the suspense to strengthen. This book is filled with suspense, mystery, historical romance, and intrigue. My copy is an audio format. Kevin T. Brown is the talented narrator.

Another Dawn was always my favorite Sandra Brown Book but this one is now a close second. I couldn't put it down and read it in two days.

A romance with intriguing characters; a few of them ruthless. Lauren's intelligence and honesty make her an endearing character. And you know that there is more to Jared than just womanizing and drinking. I loved the magnetism between the two.

This book had a realistic view of how love can make people sad, angry, confused and happy all at the same time. It has a very unique storyline and a tragic twist. It shows how far someone will go to be with a person they love.

I could not put this down. I read well into the night (early morning) two nights in a row reading this book and plan to start all over again tonight. It is such a wonderful, passionate and emotinal love story - a MUST READ! I would love to read another story with these same characters.

I've always loved this story! I had the original book for the longest time. 20+ years. I read it until it fell apart, and when it did, I got the ebook. I couldn't be without this story for any amount of time. Thank you for Jared and Lauren's story.

Loved story idea but couldn’t get around Lauren’s acceptance for being verbally abused and bullied so much because Jared caused her to be hot with lust. Come on! Jared was gone most of the time abandoning her. How can that build a relationship and a story.

I've read a lot of her books and this one is one I just couldn't get into. I had to revisit this book several times before I was able to sit down and finish. Not my fave.

341 pages, hot sex scenes, Many rape attempts, the bad guys are adequately punished, good people die, Lots of pregnancies. Can be read as a stand-alone. Ultimately a mediocre story with some disturbing rape scenes and a lot of humiliation for the main character. She cries a lot.

This was a really good, exciting, love story! The reader knows how it will probably end but there are so many twists, you have no idea how!

Haven't read a Sandra Brown book in a while and now I am asking WHY?? This book of over 300 nook pages is a humdinger of a story... Haven't read anything this good in a while... Lauren and Jared burn up the pages in an on again off again romance dictated by Jareds ruthless mother and a variety of circumstances outside their control... Texas town in need of a rail spur and the unscrupulous people out to get rich on the deal at any cost... This is one book I guarantee you will read late into the night.. Excellent read!!!
