This was a really good book, but.... Too much time was spent with the two main characters waffling on about and between anger and guilt. Most of the story centered around her feelings of anger and betrayal (at being left behind) and his feelings of guilt as having left her, and not being able to find out the truth behind his father's death. The plot points surrounding the rest of the book are just ignored. If you didn't read the prologue in Book 1 of the series, you don't understand the bond between Callum and his "brothers". The subplot about the "traitor" in his keep is really not developed to it's full potential, and the pay-off at the end is just a waste of time and space. What about the conspiracy involving this mysterious "Laird Mac..."? The introduction of Maggie's brother John at the end leaves way too many unanswered questions. It feels like an entire final chapter was left out. I've enjoyed the series so far, but really feel the author needs to decide if she is more interested in focusing solely on the dynamic between the main characters, or if she wants to include subplots within the story as well, and then develop them to a better degree.

I think Maggie is not my type of heroine, at leasr so far. I havent finished reading this book because it is hard for me to get past the way she shows off. The other books in this series were good. The book started out ok....but......well...Maggie.

I Voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Overall: For me, there is a pace issue in this story due to the never ending problems the couple face. In a romance I really need to see some kind of relationship, and that can’t happen when every moment they have together is interrupted by some crisis. Other than the pace, this is a good story with very interesting characters. I loved Maggie’s character and the perfect balance that the author found with her bravery and fighting abilities and her being a woman in that time period. Would I Recommend it: Despite the road bumps, I would most certainly recommend this to any history To see more please visit my blog at bookishcreation dot com

Maggie MacDonell has been engaged to Callum MacLean since childhood and she’s grown tired of waiting for him to keep his promises to her. Her brother is deathly ill, her evil cousin Irvin has taken over their keep while he’s conniving to take over as Laird of their Clan and his plans include using Maggie to achieve his goals. Laird Callum MacLean vowed to marry Maggie MacDonnell, but first he needs to make sure she would be safe at his castle. His father was murdered and once he finds the murderer he’ll go and fetch Maggie. Maggie literally falls into his hands and he no choice but to protect her, his clan and convince Maggie he still wants their betrothal and marriage. I love the witty banter between Maggie and Callum, and the way his brothers or “Gregor’s boys”come together to help each other in times of trouble and help each other out. A captivating story filled with adventure, intrigue, mystery and a sizzling romance. This is my honest review after I voluntarily read a copy of this book.

It takes a special woman to endure the Highlands and the Highland power machinations, not to mention the Highland warriors. Meet Maggie and discover what a hard-headed woman really is as she uncovers a planned takeover of her brother’s clan that involves marrying her. Can you say, she is pretty sure THAT will never happen and she has planned for her wickedly daring escape. Callum MacLean was betrothed to Maggie years before, but the supposed suicide of his father and his determination to find out what happened and who murdered him keeps him from claiming his bride. Maggie’s escape is nearly flawless, but she never expected to “drop in” in Callum and his men in the dark of night. Together they fight like emotional cats and dogs, going round after round, all while attempting to uncover two unknowns that haunt both of their castles, their lives and their safety. Grab your clan plaid, practice with your throwing knives, settle in and prepare for some adventure, lots of humor and the sparks that fly between Callum and Maggie. HIGHLAND BETRAYAL Alyson McLayne is the latest Highland romance to pit two characters’ wills against each other, knowing that love is going to take the final round! Brawny highlanders, a feisty highland woman, and dark secrets that come to light. Alyson McLayne always delivers solid entertainment!

What is better than a strong highland laird and the lass who wants to marry him? Not much and this story will entertain you until the end. Callum and Maggie were betrothed at a young age, but when it comes time for Callum to claim her for his bride, he is surrounded by danger trying to find out who murdered his father. Maggie has her own problems at home when she overhears her cousin's dastardly plan. Of course, she flees and guess where she winds up? Running right into Callum who she has loved all her life it seems. I adored these two characters! Callum was so strong and gallant and Maggie was feisty and the interaction between the two had me laughing at times. This was really an entertaining story and held all the elements of a wonderful highland romance! Lori Dykes

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) This is the third book in this series and I hate when I receive a book and then find out I am behind but I did enjoy this book and I will catch up. I enjoyed Maggie because I never like weak heroines and she certainly wasn't one of them. And I also liked Callum and I am happy that they got their issues resolved after a lot of chaos and so many things against them. They have betrayal, lost of loved ones and mystery and suspense to deal with. but my friends it is an enjoyable read, until the next one!
