Will Love’s Flame Quench the Dragon’s Fire? ...

The past never stays in the past, it rears its ugly head eventually. James the Black Douglas knows this all too well. With a past that has left him vengeful and his dragon blood thirsty, his reputation as a ruthless warrior haunts his enemies in their sleep. As his allegiance stands with Robert Bruce, the King of Scotland, he must now repay a debt to the king and agrees to marry his daughter, Abigale Bruce. The problem is he doesn’t want a wife. When flames start to burn out of control between him and the auburn-haired lass, he must decide to either kindle the flames of passion or shelter her from the truth and set her free.

It’s What Shines in the Dark That Brings Forth Your True Light...

Determined to keep his daughter safe and out of the hands of the English, Robert hides Abigale behind the safe walls of a nunnery. After eight long years of living her life in seclusion, Abigale is finally set free. But her new found freedom comes to an abrupt halt when she learns of her betrothal to the infamous Bogeyman – James the Black Douglas. She soon finds herself falling in love with the uncontainable and haunted man. Is her love enough to soften his hardened heart?

About the Author

Growing up in the sister city to Stirling, Scotland, Scottish flare was abundant throughout Dunedin. From her High School band to the annual Highland Games that took place right across the street from her childhood home, the bagpipes beckoned her toward her calling. It seemed only natural for Victoria Zak to want to write in the Scottish historical romance genre. Add to the fact, she was also a paranormal romance junkie, there was no doubt that her influences would be the driving force behind her stories. Although, she never sought out a writing career, her desire for the written word grew the more she read. Her love for Scotland, curiosity of history, and passion for romance has inspired her to write her first book, Highland Burn. The Guardians of Scotland series continues this winter with book two, Highland Storm. Today, Victoria Zak lives in the sunshine state with her husband, two beautiful children, and three furry friends. Living in paradise, being a stay at home, and to be able to share her stories has been a blessing. Victoria loves to hear from her readers. You can connect with her through FB, Twitter, G+, and her website, www.victoriazalromance.com.

I have been reading historical romanace books for over 40 years. And lately I starting to think that all the good authors are gone but this book had some good reviews so l thought I would read it. It is not so much a HR book but I really liked it. I liked the fantasy of it, the characters in it, I liked that it did not get bogged down in descriptions of every detail. The author had a story to tell and she told it in a way that makes you want to turn the page and read more. I will be looking for more HR books like this from this author. Bravo Victoria Zak!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved Highland Burn.  It was so much fun to read.  A Scottish highlander (in a kilt) that shifts into a dragon, what’s not to love?  My heart broke for both James and Abigale.  Their relationship had so many ups and downs.   I really hated the way James treated Abigale.  I also loved that there was an actual story line and it wasn’t just sex.  The storyline kept me enthralled.  I had so many questions throughout and was left with a few questions still unanswered.  I felt for the tragedy that befell the Dragonkine and am anxiously awaiting the stories of the other Dragonkine warriors.  I want to see them all get a HEA.  I also want the rest of my questions answered.  Victoria, please write faster, I need more of the Dragonkine. 5-Bombs Reviewed by Tracy

From the first words of this story I was hooked. This author is a great storyteller. She has developed wonderful, interesting characters and has the reader intrigued from the start. She has developed a great twist in the historic, Scottish fiction, romance, by adding dragons! To find out how dragons fit in you will have to read this book. You will want a dragon of your own! If you are like me, you will have trouble putting this book down. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Victoria Zak’s “Highland Burn” is the beginning of a tantalizing  new series, “Guardians of Scotland.” I love the mythology that’s been put in place with the dragons and the two warring kingdoms. It’s as if you took a Maya Banks historical highlander book and mixed in elements of J.R. Ward’s Rhage (with a beast inside that only one woman can soothe). The version I read could have used a smidge more editing for flow, but I’m hoping that will be solved in the new version. I kept waiting for Abigail to have the markings to match James’s dragon, but it didn’t happen yet, perhaps in the next novel. Overall, very sexy and a great read.

5+ stars I was gifted a copy of Highland Burn by Victoria Zak in exchange for an honest review. AMAZING!! I was blown away by Victoria's debut book! I was hooked from page one and could not put it down! I love her writing style and the flow of the book was great. I loved the characters, setting and the sexy dragon shifters. Abigale is a strong and determined lass who is determined that she will not live her entire life in seclusion. Her life at the abbey was not a very pleasant one and just when she thinks she will return home to be with her father, she finds out he has other plans. James is your sexy, strong and rugged highlander who has the lasses falling at his feet. He has no desire to ever take a wife. His king has other plans for him but he is unsure his future bride will be able to face him when she learns his deep dark secret. The connection between James and Abigale is hot and sexy. They try to turn away from each other but fate has a way of bringing them together. I felt like I was apart of the entire book. I felt all of the character's emotions as if they were my own. I laughed, cried and yelled along with the characters. I cannot wait for book two! Thank you so much Victoria Zak for an amazing book and allowing me to read and review for you.

I was gifted a copy of Highland Burn by Victoria Zak in exchange for an honest review. This is Victoria Zak's debut novel and I was lucky enough to take this journey with her. I absolutely recommend this novel and subsequent books in the series. Victoria Zak is a talented storyteller and definitely an author to watch. Highland Burn is an historical romance that also includes a paranormal aspect. What more is there to love: highlanders, spunky heroines, and DRAGONS! Definitely some of my favorite things. James Douglas is known as the Black Douglas, stories are told to small children to encourage them to behave. So, what's a young innocent girl who grew up in a nunnery supposed to do when her father arranges a marriage to the Boogeyman? In Abigale's case, stick out her chin and continue to hope for the family she never really had. You won't be disappointed in the characters, the story, or the historical accuracy in this debut novel.

Dragonkine, the Guardians of Scotland. Magic words to me! I have been looking for a long time for dragon shifter tales, here you will find the best. Magnificent, fierce Highland warriors, all handsome, brave, kind and loving to those they care for, with strong bodies and swirling reptilian eyes, Did I forget to say sexy, oh yeah, they're sexy alright just read about how well they treat and protect their ladies. They are huge and gorgeous both as men and as dragons with hearts to match. The first book in the new series, Highland Burn, is about Abigale and James story. She is a princess being sent away into a forced marriage. He is the leader of the Dragonkine and the king has arranged his marriage. A difficult circumstance for a blooming love affair. Read about their struggles, how they come together and how they relate to the rest of the Dragonkine family. Each book so far has a dragon finally finding his true mate. I'm hoping Ms. Zak will continue her series with each Guardian meeting his match. Wonderful, imaginative writing, well edited and a joy to read. Well developed characters and story line, you will be delighted getting to know them all. Her stories bring a smile to my face and a lift to my romantic heart.
