When Storm Eldon is kidnapped by her family's ancestral enemies, she knows there are rules to be honored by both sides. If her stepmother agrees to the ransom demanded, Storm will not be harmed by Tavis MacLagan, the handsome Highland warrior who holds her captive. But as days of waiting turn into weeks, it begins to be clear that in this contest of wills, no one is fighting fair. Tavis's hands-off policy has changed into an all-out siege of the senses, and Storm realizes she is less interested in guarding her virtue than becoming...HIS BONNIE BRIDE. This book was hilarious! The love story was beautiful and sweet. There's enough intrigue and suspense for even the most hardcore fan. Tavis and Storm seemed so much like real people with their stubborness and pride. Sometimes Tavis can seem a bit childish, but that's only to be expected because what man isn't at times? I only had one problem with this book. It was hard to believe that Storm was so beautiful that all the men who saw her wanted her even Tavis's brother, Sholto. The scene between Storm and Sholto in the stable practically amounted to rape. I think both Tavis and Storm were way too forgiving of his actions. And another thing. Storm was pregnant for half the book. She went through a lot including getting kidnapped and beaten by her rejected suitor, Sir Hugh, yet she didn't miscarry. That was a bit hard to believe.

I have read this book many times and it still cracks me up! I do have some parts of the book thats not my faviorte but over all its good! As to a review that i read and disagree with about the scene with sholto and storm in the barn which almost leads to rape. The doesnt mean the she will ever not be faithful to travis there are men who have raped women and knew how to bring plesure to the womens body although the women want it or not and have a huge amount of grief that happens afterwards for their body reacted against their wishes. I just wanted people to understand that and take it into account!

A Fun Book to Read on a Very Long Drive. I've been in a Highlander romance kick recently and stumbled on HIS BONNIE BRIDE (republished by Zebra Books, 2012) during an ebook sale over Thanksgiving. I was just looking for something light to read while I traveled in the car for 11 hours, and this ebook looked like the perfect escape. Previously published under the title AMBER FLAME in 1988, HIS BONNIE BRIDE is the first book in Hannah Howell's HIGHLAND BRIDES SERIES and for me a solid 4 star read. Set in the 14th century, it tells the story of Storm Eldon, a feisty, independent and witty English border woman, and Tavis MacLagan, the confident, good-looking heir of the Scottish castle Caraidland. Their families are enemies and have been stealing cattle, horses and other property from each other for generations. It's at the end of one of these border thefts that Tavis and his brothers save Storm from being raped by one of her stepmother's lovers. The men strip the attacker, strap him to his horse, and send him back to the Eldon stronghold in shame. Once they determine that Storm's father, brothers and male cousins aren't around to protect her from further harm by the man, Tavis decides to put her on his horse and head back to Caraidland. He wants to seduce Storm but waits until his clan has heard whether or not her ransom will be paid. All of Storm's adult male relatives are in another country fighting, leaving her stepmother in charge of the Eldon stronghold. She is a spoiled woman, who kills whenever she wants and spends as much money as the Eldon clan can raise. Storm's future with Tavis is set when her stepmother refuses to pay the ransom, and Tavis begins his seduction of Storm in earnest. I thoroughly enjoyed the book with all its parallel storylines and interesting characters, particularly since there's something for every taste. A murder plot; a kinky, lusty, evil stepmother; rugged, handsome highlanders; a strong heroine; sensual romance; battles and altercations; secret goings-on; and, some laugh-out-loud humor. I read the whole book in sort of one sitting (not too difficult on an 11-hour car ride) and was glad I discovered this story. It turned out to be just the thing I needed to turn a long trip into a fairly pleasant ride. * BEWARE -- Because of the sex scenes and a bit of gruesome violence, I only recommend HIS BONNIE BRIDE for readers 18 years and above. If You Like This Book, You May Also Like -- Other Highlander series by Hannah Howell, HIGHLAND ADVENTURE SERIES by Vonda Sinclair, STOLEN BRIDE SERIES by Eliza Knight, HOT HIGHLANDER BOOKS by Mary Wine, BAD BOYS OF THE HIGHLAND SERIES by Victoria Roberts. ** The second book in the series is HIGHLAND WEDDING, also reprinted in 2012. *** Visit Blue Moon Mystery Saloon blog for more book reviews.

There is something very special about this story.  I loved the characters, the plot, well everything.  It was a real treat.  I’m having a heck of a time pinpointing the exact thing that made it special.  It’s a complete package of history, love and action with amazing characters, exciting times and a titillating plot.  If you enjoy this genre, you really should pick up a copy of His Bonnie Bride. Storm Eldon captured my heart from the very beginning.  She was a woman born out of her time and with all of the trouble she caused, stirred and instigated; she should have been beat more.  I know you are thinking, WHAT - BEAT MORE?  It is a running joke in His Bonnie Bride. To find out what I mean, you’ll just have to read it.  But trust me, if I had an ounce of her tenacity and spunk I would have been beat too.  Storm seems to have an internal light that when it emerges, it shines brightly.  She is blessed with more than beauty, but also with a strong sense of worth and the importance of treating people fairly.  She is also a person not to be crossed.  I love how she handled her adversaries.  She is funny, smart and a person you would be proud to know. From the moment Storm blew into Tavis MacLagan life, it was changed forever.  She is a force of nature and at their first meeting, when she was a young girl; Tavis and his whole clan knew they were witnessing something special.  Years later when another opportunity came around for him to claim her as a woman, he jumps at the chance.  Now she is his prisoner and he will possess her body, but nothing more. Storm has an amazing ability to weave magic and capture the whole MacLagan clan with her mere presence.  I enjoyed the progression of Tavis and Storm’s relationship, life in the clan and the intricacies that it entailed.  I also appreciated the glimpse of these turbulent times and to witness how love could cure generations of fighting and change the future.  I found the storyline strong and well-paced; excellence all around. One spoiler...BRIDE?  The title of His Bonnie Bride is a misleading title and in my opinion, a very bad choice.  The blessed event doesn’t materialize until page 309/346.  Yes, it happens after you have read almost 90% of the book.  This book doesn’t have much to do about marriage or brides.  Yes, you get to enjoy the hurdles they had to overcome to become a couple, but I feel it had to do more with how the people, as a whole, were able to get past their cultural differences and the preconceived misconceptions of labeling a person a bloody Scot or a Sassenach.  Despite the title, I utterly enjoyed His Bonnie Bride.  This is the first novel in the Highland Brides series.  But I also must mention that this is a rerelease of the previously titled novel, Amber Flame (better title IMHO).  Ms. Howell is a well-known author in this genre and I can see why.  When I get my next craving for some Scottish lovin’, I’ll be sure to check out her other releases.  Ms. Howell is very talented in her ability to draw me into the story and to become absorbed into her amazing world building.  His Bonnie Bride is a treasure and I can see myself enjoying it over and over for years to come.

Frankly Tavis our hero took a little to long to step up to the plate. I know Hannah always has her Highlanders a little slow to say the L word but this guy was a total slug. And the evil stepmother was a little over the top. Dragged towards the end. To bad it starts out good.

Hannah Howell has written another fantastic story ! This book has so much adventure with Tavis and Storm. The characters all come to life with their humor and bold comments through the entire story. The book is so fun to read that I hate to get to the end. I will be waiting very impatiently for Hannah's next new book.

ok but not great. I didn't get the attitudes toward a mans honor, a womans virginity, and the cavalier attitude about losing it because of a ransom denied. Also cannot see a woman falling in love as a captive of a life long enemy.
