“Jaci Burton does raw, passionate romance like no other” (Joyfully Reviewed), and the New York Times bestselling author of Hope Ignites and the hot new Play-by-Play novel Straddling the Line proves it again in this novella of second chances…

Jane Kline is a struggling divorcee and single mother with a social life on hold. Not only does Jane not have the time to date anyone, she’s not even going to consider making herself vulnerable to another man after being deserted by her husband. That’s why Will Griffin, her ex’s former best friend, takes her totally by surprise.

What would such a hot and sexy wild card see in a harried mother juggling two kids and two jobs? For starters, everything Jane no longer sees in herself. As she dares to take the flirtation to the next step, Jane finds herself back where she never wanted to be—falling for another man. Now it’s up to Will to convince Jane that she has everything he wants in a woman, and that the second time around can be the best time of all.

Hope Smolders was a quick read that introduces the small town of Hope where Jane and Will have lived their whole lives. While we meet a few other people in town I was happy that Jaci Burton didn't overwhelm us with too many characters; it was the just the right balance for setting up a new series. Will was a near perfect hero who sees past Jane's exhaustion and body insecurity and instead sees the hard working, caring mother she is. Jane was really sweet but definitely very hard on herself; she makes some mistakes in their relationship, but she's honest about them and always apologizes to Will. One of the things I liked most about Hope Smolders was that it centers around a hero and heroine with normal lives who date like normal people. Often romances have characters that bypass any type of dating for quick flings or tumultuous relationships. While I like those books it's also nice to mix it up every once and while with some old school dating.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 Don’t ask me why I took so long to read this book because I don’t have a reason. I am in love with Ms. Burton’s Hope series and I am so glad that I did finally pick up this novella!! I really enjoyed Will & Jane’s journey. Both are just great. Even if Jane is stubborn and determined to do it all on her own. I could tell you everything that happens but what fun would that be. (hint it wouldn’t be any fun). If you are a Hope fan and you have not read this novella yet? You should and I think you will enjoy it very much. If you are new to this series you don’t have to start here but I think you should. Disclaimer: I purchased this book and this review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Annoying that the e-book novella comes out after hope flames since this is supposed to be the opening of the series in "Hope". Jane comes across as annoying and too "oh boo hoo oh woe is me". The next books in the series are much better and are worth the money - this one should have been free.

Hope Smolders is a sweet and sexy tale of a woman starting over.  Jane has been burned.  Her ex, Vic, loved his addictions more than Jane and their two children.  Now two years later his best friend, Will, has asked her out.  They have both been hurt by Vic can they move past the past and build a future together?  I got a real kick out of this story.  As a (formerly) divorced mother of two I could so relate to Jane and the issues involved with dating as a single parent.  The author handled it with class and understanding.  Welcome to Hope.
