3.9 ~ A Hot Holiday Disappointment ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ FOUR-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ . > > Judging a Book by it's Cover > Looking Deeper Third person. Tori is a sports agent, introduced a few books back in the series. She works hard year-round to get her clients what they deserve. This Christmas, she's taking a 3-wk vacation in Hawaii to relax and refresh. However, with a big surf competition occurring right outside her hotel, relaxing may be the last thing to happen. Especially having met champion surfer, Alex, and later his manager, Ben. There's a lot of commitment-phobia and age-obsession going on here... halfway through the book, age still plays a factor in one or more minds. Secondary cast mostly revolves around fellow competitors. Chemistry, other than lust and hormones/testosterone, is lacking. I felt no emotional connection between them. Dialogue away from sex is smart, sassy, and sometimes snarky. Dialogue during sex was a turn-off. The plot moved along well and had an overall good concept. The length of the novella sometimes plays against the story as it does not allow for a deeper plot to evolve. There were no real conflicts to be resolved. Predictability was a non-issue. There was no real conclusion; nothing solid, barely implied and nowhere near satisfying. I'm finding it harder to recommend this series the further along it gets. I'm not sure if it's that my reading preferences are changing or if the writing style is, but it no longer feels like a good fit for me. . 3.5 Stars First of all, to the one star reviewers of this novella, really? The story flowed well, got down to business, gave us great heated sex scenes we've come to love from Jaci and ultimately the HEA we all crave. Yes, some character development was missing, it felt rushed in some areas and the dialogue was a little dry, but novellas serve as a way to wet the appetite for a reader, because there will be more. They also serve to test the waters in certain instances and writing a poly-amorous relationship is not to be taken on lightly. Even NYT Best Selling writers get nervous. You could read that here, but for me, this snippet sold me and I'm looking forward to more.

Hot Holiday Nights is book #10.5 in the Play-by-Play series by Jaci Burton. I’ve known for a long time I wanted this book to be part of my Christmas reading this year and I’m so glad I did. It’s my first book by Jaci Burton but definitely won’t be my last. Victoria Baldwin or Tori is a sports agent, having worked in the sports industry for fifteen years. She works hard, travels constantly. So occasionally she needs some down time to completely relax before she burns out. This Christmas she is at one of her favorite hotel resorts on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. There just happens to be a huge surfing competition going on there at the same time and on her very first morning while out on a run on the beach, she meets pro surfer, Alex McConnell. They instantly click, the attraction intense. Tori would completely be on board with a holiday fling. She’s had them before, they have fun, then go their own ways. Ben Reynolds is Alex’s manager. When he arrives, there is also a spark between he and Victoria. But Alex met her first so Ben knows she’s off limits. But the more time they spend together, the more intense the chemistry becomes. So maybe they could find a way to make this could work after all? These three begin a holiday fling but emotions become involved. All three of their lives are crazy with constant traveling and competitions. None of them was planning on getting their hearts involved but it happened anyway. Will they find a way to make it work or will they just walk away? This was a short read and didn’t really have much to do with Christmas other than that it happened at Christmas time. But still, it was a hot, fun, sexy read and I loved it. These three have put their careers first their entire adult lives and I enjoyed seeing them all grapple with their emotions for the first time. So if you want a quick, super sexy read to spice up your Christmas reading list, add this one. I’m so glad I did.

I have NEVER read a Jaci book that was disappointing. What a shame that this was a part of the Play by Play series. You want to read about just sex? This is the book for you. Tori deserved a better storyline than that. Horrible! No storyline whatsoever.

HOT HOLIDAY NIGHTS is the most appropriate book title I’ve ever read/and or experienced! Holy hot surfer sandwich, Batman! Jaci Burton wows us with this extremely sexy—yet way too short—holiday novella. Jaci is known for writing athletes and gives us something new and exciting in sexy surfer Alex and retired surfer—yet still VERY sexy—Ben. How can Victoria resist two smokin’ hot men with stamina for days? Alas, she cannot. I don’t think any of us could! The lovely Ms. Burton gives us her signature steamy romance as well as a mini education of the sport of surfing. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I thought it ended too soon! I hope we get to see more of Victoria, Ben and Alex soon! I’d love to see how they are “making things work.” ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

Sports agent, Victoria Baldwin, is vacationing in Hawaii for Christmas when she hooks up with Alex, a pro-surfer. The relationship is very hot and heated right from the start. They seem to have a quick and easy connection. When Alex’s agent, Ben Reynolds joins Alex during the a Christmas ran tournament there is definite chemistry that ignites between Ben and Victoria. Although there is an attraction, they seem to build more of a friendship until one night when Alex and Ben agree to offer Victoria a threesome. The story runs at a fast pace, especially with its novella length. It is more of an insta-love situation, with very hot and heavy at every turn. If you’re looking for a flaming hot read to warm those cold winter nights, Hot Holiday Nights is the book for you. I received this ARC copy of Hot Holiday Nights From PENGUIN GROUP Berkley, NAL / Signet Romance, DAW in exchange for a honest review.

The Play-by-Play series is one of my all-time favorites and this novella was a great addition. I loved the chemistry between Alex and Victoria and then add Ben to the mix and WOAH! I loved how the three of them got along and how this relationship changed the focus for each of them where relationships were concerned. Jaci Burton once again did fantastic work and I can't wait for the next one in this series!

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 In Hot Holiday Nights we get to follow sports agent Victoria Baldwin on her holiday trip to Hawaii. And it just happens to be the same time as a huge Surfing contest. Which brings some hottie surfers. Alex is a surfing super start and a very sweet guy who is looking for a good time will he is in Hawaii. Ben is Alex’s agent, best friend and was once a competitive surfer until he was hurt. This was a very quick read and boy howdy it was spicy. Victoria is a women who knows what she wants and when she wants it. Alex, Victoria and Ben make a great team!!! I don’t want to give you too much but if you like the Play by Play series you will love this novella. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & PENGUIN GROUP Berkley, NAL / Signet Romance, DAW in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Reviewed by Francesca and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog If there is one thing I always look forward as the holidays approach is the guaranteed Jaci Burton holiday themed short story. There is something special and magical about how she perfectly blends the spirit of the holidays with the heart of her stories. HOT HOLIDAY NIGHTS is a bit different than some of the others she’s done in that it’s not a sport I would’ve expected to see from her (surfing!) and it’s not characters I’m overly familiar with. Color me surprised because this is the first threesome in the series! The sizzling chemistry between Alex and Victoria, and then Victoria and Ben was enough to warm up any winter’s night. Add in to that the fact that Alex and Ben have been best friends for years but they are both at very different stages in their lives and are also different ages, I think it brings the perfect balance and complement to the story. It was nice and refreshing seeing an older heroine who makes no apologies for what she wants and likes and isn’t afraid to take it, even if that involves a hot surfer dude who is younger than her and not caring how others might see that and how she might fit in with his younger crowd. But it was also nice to see the completely different dynamics between her and Ben as I found they had a better connection and more things in common. Either way, this was a great and quick read and it only leaves me excited about seeing more from this series. After 10 books, it’s still going strong as one of my go to series!

Hot Holiday Nights is an apt title for this fun, super sexy novella, part of the Play by Play series but easily read as a standalone Christmas treat. It's the story of Victoria, a sports agent on vacation, who meets surfer Alex and his business manager Ben. Alex is a few years younger than Victoria, while Ben is her age, but the attraction to both of them is equal and undeniable. They are both handsome, confident man, in bed and out. What I really liked about the story was that Victoria was a strong and vibrant woman and she had no trouble articulating her sexual desires. She owns her sexuality, isn't ashamed of it, and as a result the sex scenes between first her and Alex, then with Ben added into the mix in some menage scenes were exciting and fun. Both men treated her with equal care and were generous lovers (no alpha male caveman tactics, just equal partnerships). While Alex and Ben have been best friends for a long time, they are not sexually intimate themselves, though they have shared women before. But this is the first time that they have both had strong emotional connections with the same women. And Victoria is equally smitten by both of them. I liked that it has a happy for now ending with a lovely romantic side, and the knowledge that all three will be in it for the long haul. What a nice Christmas present for Victoria! 4 steamy stars.
