Recommended There is so much in this book -- Although fiction, the problems facing the two main characters are faced in real life. Being told from a young age and then over and over in one's life that nothing done is right; always messing up things, etc. And these negative feelings take root in our lives. There were some really funny parts in the story as well as a few tears along the way. I began the story late in the evening and could not put it down until I finished the entire book in the early hours of the next morning.

Lori Wilde is one of my auto-buy author's. I love the Cupid, Texas series and Alzate family legend. Ember is an extroverted risk taker. She's smart, outspoken, bold, and normally doesn't think about the consequences of her actions before she does or says something. Ember is all these things and so much more, but has very low self-esteem. All her life she has been told that she's too loud, too out there, needs to change, and conform. This hits home when her marriage dissolves. Ember takes leave from her job as a real estate agent and returns home to Cupid to be with her family, and reconsider her life. In Cupid she is known as the matchmaker, but she doesn't believe there is a happily ever in her future. Ranger Locker is an introverted absent minded professor. Ranger is also Ember's BFF. After a year working on his doctorate down under, he returns to Cupid. The first person he goes to see is Ember. A year of being separated from his BFF was been really hard; for both of them. Once Ranger see's Ember again he realizes that his feeling have changed. Ember is also sees Ranger in a different way, but doesn't act on it. Ember decides to play matchmaker for Ranger. Find him the perfect wife who will challenge him to be more outgoing. Unbeknownst to Ember, Ranger believes Ember is his perfect match, his forever BFF and the love of his life. He wants Ember as his wife. There are many twist and turns. You will laugh, get frustration, and just about question Lori's perception of this couple. You wonder how Ember and Ranger can be so dense with what is right under their noses. But then you take into consideration Ember's low self-esteem and her belief that she is not good enough for Ranger. Then there is Ranger whose sole focus has always been his career. Now he's struggling to leave his comfort zone. There will be heartbreak before Ember and Ranger can attain their HEA. It all comes down to believing in yourself, and knowing that you will have each others back regardless of where your lives take you.

3 1/2 STARS! A realization of forever! Ember and Ranger have been best friends for pretty much forever. Always there to entertain and support each other through thick and thin. Finally back in the same place again and both single, they start to feel a tingle of attraction they've succeeded in denying in the past ... but this time they just might act on it! I really liked the characters, and the logistics of the plot was fun, it was just very slow moving ... and I felt cheated out of the cowboy, since even though he grew up on a ranch, Ranger did nothing the entire book to push my cowboy button. Entertaining none-the-less! Ember Alzate has always felt like the loner in the world surrounding her. She only manages to feel like she fits when she's with her best friend Ranger. They complete each other. Total opposites, but with a magical connection. She's licking her wounds after a painful divorce when Ranger arrives back into town to sweep her off her feet and get her pulled back together. Ranger Lockhart has always had his head in the stars ... literally! ... but his grounding force has always been Ember. She can reach him like no other, and their love and friendship has been his saving grace for his entire life. Now back in town and courting his forever job, he has a lot of time to enjoy Ember being at his side ... and finds he really loves it ... in a whole new way! When new feelings flare up between them, will they decide to act on them or be leery of damaging their forever friendship?

Whenever I pick up a book by Ms Wilde, I know that the story will not only be entertaining, but also thoughtful and insightful. This one takes us back to Cupid, TX and this time the story belongs to Ember Alzate and Ranger Lockhart. Ember is a natural matchmaker , with no luck getting a match for herself. Her best friend Ranger, is looking for a bride. While Ember is determined to find him a bride, Ranger, is starting to think Ember might be IT for him. It’s a sweet story about childhood friends, that realize they might become more than that. But what if it doesn’t work out? So, pick up the book, take yourself to Cupid ,TX and enjoy another entertaining story by this talented author.

What we all want, after all, is to be loved and accepted just as we are. In How the Cowboy Was Won the Ember Alzate has always felt like she is too loud, too wild, too spontaneous, too much for everyone else but to her very best friend, Ranger Lockhart. I love the best friend to lovers stories because they have such a solid foundation to build a relationship on. This story had so much more than just the romance developing between the two best friends. There were community affairs and events with plenty of characters to get mixed up if not paying attention, there were the match-making attempts by Ember, the filmmaking, the living and loving of small-town Texas, and it was funny, sweet, adorable, and entertaining. There were moments, like the best first kiss ever, that had me swooning, there was the ardent passion that had me fanning my face, there were the moments of true confessions, the raw truths of the hearts and souls that had me in tears, there were moments of pure vulnerability that helped the characters grow, and there were the continues moments that the best friends could not communicate what truly was in their minds and hearts that had me frustrated and even annoyed. Charming and captivating, delightful and humorous, poignant and inspiring - The story stirred the emotions, had me engaged in the tale while whisked me away to a lively and lovely visit to Cupid, Texas. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

When it comes to love Ember Alzate is a master at matching up the folks around her, but when it comes to her own love life she just can't get it right, so she has given up on making a love connection of her own for the moment. When she learns that her best friend is moving back home and is ready to settle down she designates herself his personal matchmaker, problem is he has already found his girl, she just doesn't know it yet. He wants Ember and he will do just about anything to convince her that she is the right women for him... even playing a little dirty! How The Cowboy Was Won is a sweet, witty, and toe curling tale that is sure to leave romance readers hearts overflowing! The moment you meet this couple you will be instantly captivated by them, their quirky personalities, sizzling chemistry, and genuine care for one another makes it all to easy to fall for them and root them on. I am a sucker for a smooth talking cowboy and I have to say Ranger definitely dazzled, he was charming and sweet when the moment called for it, and certainly knew his way to a woman's heart! This was a pleasurable read, it had emotional content to stir up the feels, witty banter to inspire the giggles, and some steamy scenes to curl your toes... highly recommend it!! I requested an advanced copy from the publisher, via Edelweiss, and voluntarily read and reviewed.

I won a copy of this book from Goodreads giveaways. I was not required to give a favorable review. This was a wonderful story how 2 friends that have grown up together could finally admit that they had feelings for each other. He was the brainy PHD guy who had left for a while but is back and she is the girl who married the wrong guy rather admit her true feelings. I love how friends and family brought them together,,

BFF to More is one of my favorite tropes, so I was 10000% here for this. I liked Ember and Ranger. They have a great history and I loved their wordless conversations and the spark they had between them. They complimented each other well. There are loads and loads and LOADS of other characters and I pretty much gave up trying to keep track of them. Plot wise it was sort of lack luster. I did like the game with Dawn, but it just seemed like so much work when a conversation could have worked. Actually, the majority of this story is conflict due to lack of communication and that’s where I started to get bored. There was a lot to unpack here and not all of it felt necessary. Overall, it was a quick read with MCs I wanted to root for. I’m not sure I would read any of the other books in the series. **Huge thanks to Avon Books for providing the arc free of charge**

Best friends figuring out there is something more there. Love the introverted hero. Modeled after Jane Austen's Emma. Always like the secret element that allows heroine or hero to know that they are with their true love

How the Cowboy Was Won is part of the Cupid, Texas series but is also a stand alone. This is a best friends to lovers story. Ember Alzate is a people pleaser, matchmaker, and an extreme extrovert who does many outlandish things. Ranger is a quiet, scholarly, introvert who has loved his best friend Ember since forever. While she is trying to match him up with his perfect mate, he is trying to make her see that she is his true love. Watching the machinations and results that both attempt is hilarious. This is a fun story that will have the reader entertained until the very end. I received this ARC from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.

I enjoyed the other books in this series, but this one is horrible.
