My aunt lives in Atlanta, GA and met the author at a book signing. She got an autographed copy of Pete the cat for my son(5) and my daughter(2) to share. They've had it for about a year now...i didn't realized that it hadn't actually been released yet. Needless to say my kids LOVE this book and our copy came with a cd that reads the story and teaches the kids how to sing the song (that pete sings in the book). We listened to the cd the first time to learn the song and have read it myself ever since. My daughter has already learned the words and what colors his shoes turn through out the book. My son has learned how to spell the colors. I read it to his kindergarten class this week when I was there mystery reader. My daughter just had a birthday and got a print of Pete to hang on her bedroom wall! The story has simple but very entertaining artwork and a great storyline that teaches the kids about colors, cause and effect, rhythm and it has a great lesson at the end. I'd recommend it to everyone!

Pete the cat is a cool dude and he has new white shoes. He loves his new white shoes and sings a song about them. But during the course of the day Pete's adventures take him places that turn his shoes first red, then blue, brown and green. Pete, being cool, takes these changes in stride and comes out squeaky clean and sporting white shoes again and singing his song along the way. Wonderful story. Great illustration. A character you can't help but like in Pete the cat. A read over and over again book for young children. Highly recommended. Five stars.

My son (age Two) adores this book. We read it every night, and he reads and sings right along with me. He enjoys the pictures and likes to point out something on every page (bird, red car, hot drink, tractor, etc). He has a guitar that he plays while I do the singing about the shoes. He has also picked up on the repetitive phrases of the book (Goodness, No!) and enjoys chiming in with those. It's definitely a favorite in our home. I'd recommend it to anyone with small children for a fun family read.

I am a Pre-k Special Education Teacher in Miami, FL. All I hear in my class is "We want to read, Pete the Cat." " I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes"... singing along.... My students can not put this book down, the vibrant colors and illustration are eye catching to children. My favorite is the simple wording and rhyming phrases through out the story. Keeps kids motivated in the story. By the end of the story the kids were saying the phrases on their own and labeling the colors. I am so happy I found more Pete the cat books. I will be adding to my collection.

This is my 2 year old granddaughter's favorite book. She can recite the whole thing, with a lot of emphasis on the colors and that bucket of water. Excellent book for kids and the adults who love them.

My little granddaughter loved the book and sings the song in the car. She just turned two. I bought it for my great-niece so she could share the fun. It also teaches colors as Pete goes through colorful misadventures with his white shoes.

I got this for my two boys who are 3 & 4 and imagine my surprise when my 3 year old said " It's Pete Mommy! I'll read it to you!" And proceeded to sweetly "read" the book to me almost word for word! He remembered it from just one reading at preschool! It is now a favorite and I intend to videotape my boys singing this sweet song because they really have taken the message to heart as they are reading it with so much emotion. It makes me smile thinking about how such a simple message connected so deeply with children. Great job Mr. Litwinis!

This is such a sweet book. Children just love it when we read and sing it at story times. I love Pete!

I bought this for my daycare kids, ages 18 months-5 years. They all listened and danced while I sang the song part. The rest of the day they found reasons to sing about the colors they were wearing. And Pete has become our mascot of the day.... the kids love him.

My mom bought this book and shared it with her pre-k class. All the children love it! I visited her classroom a week before winter holidays and the students wanted to read and listen to this book everyday. Highly recommended for parents and teachers!

This book is awesome. I don't know why it isn't all 5 stars across the board. People read too much into it sometimes. It isn't philosophy. My daughter loves all Pete the cat books and has read this one repeatedly.

It's was a funny book

Good message here, complemented by attractive, funky art of the hipster feline, Pete. Art teachers may not be happy that red sneakers dipped in blue become blue rather than purple but, hey: artistic license. The repetitive text makes this book a good choice for the lap sit crowd, who may be just as excited about new sneaks as Pete is.

This is a wonderful story about a cat that has brand new white shoes. Along the course of his adventures, he steps in strawberries, blueberries and mud, which all change his shoes different colors. In the end he steps in water which turns his shoes back to white but now his shoes are wet! The moral of the story? Keep truckin' no matter what. My kids LOVE this story. LOVE IT. I read this story several times a day, along with my children requesting the CD over and over again. There is a song that alternates in the story, and a good color tie-in for toddlers. My kids ages 21 months and 3 years both LOVE this book. Mr. Litwin's reading/singing of the book on the CD is also done very well. He is an excellent storyteller.

My mom told me Pete the Cat is ugly and doesn't even look like a cat. This criticism is a bit harsh; however, Pete is a particularly lanky and blue cat. Illustrations aside, both my mother and I agree that the story is a good one. Pete has a new pair of white sneakers. He loves his shoes and sings a song about this love. He then steps on a variety of colorful objects and his shoes change colors. Pete is never unhappy about this; he just loves his shoes whatever color they may be and sings his song about them. Basically, Pete is a mellow cat.I plan to read Pete the Cat at my baby story time. It is a simple color identification story with a repeating song which babies will enjoy and parents can quickly pick up to sing along. Logistically, I might bulk Pete up when he becomes a flannel object so that babies can easily identify him as a cat. Having said this, I think the books illustrations are unique and a bit goofy and lend to the mellow, hippie ambiance of the story. Recommended Ages: 1-7

Pete the Cat takes a stroll in his white shoes (as cats do) and has a habit of not looking where he's stepping. Despite stepping in a range of colorful substances that stain his beloved white shoes, Pete maintains a positive attitude. The repetition, positive message (and Pete's great attitude), and song make this a book that works well for children in a wide range of ages, from toddlers to preschoolers (and maybe even beyond). After reading it during dozens of storytimes, it has yet to fail. Also allows children to strengthen prediction skills and works well in storytimes/circle times with children on the autism spectrum.

Our four-year old grandson has the book and "reads" it to us. He loves singling Pete's song! I sent a copy to a three-year-old niece who loves Pete equally well! Great book!

Love this book. The kids at school love this book. I would say this was the favorite book of the year. A lot of fun and the music is fun to sing along with and to dance to for the kids. The new books without the music are not nearly as good.

I've taught pre-kinders thru 1st graders for 30+ years and have serveral "Must-have" books & Pete has earned a forever place on my bookshelf. It's right up there with other classics like "Where the Wild Things Are" , "Clifford", & Curious George. The illustrations draw kids into each page of the story. The moral that "It's all good" is a great message for kids. Children love being able to join in the predictability of the text "Goodness NO!" I've purchased several copies as gifts for young friends and family.

I really do love Pete. Pete accepts different things that happen to his shoes in stride (ha, sorry). I think it's a great message reminding us to keep on going even though something unexpected might happen. "Pete keeps going along and singing his song, because it's all good." The illustrations are extremely colorful, very bright. I recommend this book to all, even adults.
