I first checked this book out from the library for my two sons when our eldest dog passed away a couple years back. It truly helped them (and us) come to terms with the very sad passing of our beloved dog. I just bought the book as our second dog is 11 and recently diagnosed with lymphoma. While we have discussed at length that his 'time' will come soon, it is difficult to prepare for. I know this book will be an aid we turn to again when his time does come, our third child has yet to experience the devestating loss of a pet, and our older two will surely get some comfort from rereading this. I really appreciated the non-religious aspect of the story, there are plenty of the going to heaven and rainbow bridge books out there. This one is more a depiction of the life once shared with their dog and then the ending of that time, not the future of a life or spirit yet to be seen. I will always cry when I read it to them, it is so touching and gives a true sense of closure-to celebrate the time once shared and look back on those memories so fondly holding them close to you as you remember.

This book is for anyone who has ever loved, owned and made friends with a pet/animal. Every school year I share a favorite story with my students (this one). They all stare at me as I cry when I read them this story. I am human, too.

When I was younger my best friend introduced the book to me...and to this day still it is my fave book of all time. It makes me cry every time...it is a gentle little reminder to always say I love you to those people you care about.

Touching and meaningful reminder of how difficult it is to lose a pet, but how rewarding is our time with them.

This explained what happened with our beloved dog. It made sense to my preschooler and gave the whole family a sense of peace. A beautiful story that helps children (especially my young son) begin to deal with this confusing topic. The pictures are cute and relate well to the writing so that there is visual and verbal comprehension. Thank you so much for this wonderful book.

Our 8 year old grandsons dog passed away, I bought him this book to help him with the death of 'Skittles' and he has read it 6 times in two days. The whole story was a perfect fit, it was as if the story was wrote about his dog. My grandson goes to Skittles grave each morning and tells her 'I'll always love you.'

This book takes you on a journey into the heart and soul of living. It shares how we age and mature in heart and soul through the years. This book should be on the bookshelf of anyone who has children or any adult that wants to be reminded how sacred live is. Enjoy!

I thought this was one of the most heart-warming children stories I had read in a few months. It was presented in such a loving way that kids could handle. If anyone has owned a pet, especially a dog, they will understand what happened in this story and be as equally 'choked up' as I was reading it to my 7 year old son.
