Both the mis-steps and successes of Partners in Health find explanation in this small powerful book. Dr. Paul Farmer goes where others fear to go; sometimes taking extravagantly courageous stands for the "have-nots." His underlying chutzpah and compassion is borne of a commitment to social justice in the theology of the revered Gustavo Gutierrez. Each beautifully echoes the other in their stance for the poor. Not in words alone but in action. In the face of disappointment, misappropriated and mismanaged funds by other NGO's in Haiti, we understand now why Farmer continues relentlessly, valiantly. He is on fire with caritas!
