About the Author

USA Todaybestselling author Melissa F. Miller is a former attorney who traded the practice of law for the art of telling stories.

As a lawyer, she clerked for a federal judge; practiced in the offices of major international law firms; and ran a two-person law firm with her lawyer husband. Now, powered by coffee, she writes crime fiction and homeschools her three children. When she's not writing, and sometimes when she is, she travels around the country in an RV with her husband, kids, and cat.

She is the author of more than two dozen bestselling legal thrillers, suspense thrillers, romantic comedic mysteries, and forensic thrillers. All her work shares two common threads: pulse-pounding, tightly plotted action and smart, unlikely heroines and heroes.

While not quite as tightly written as the opening novel in the series, this still works as a lightweight mystery for an afternoon or weekend read. The Prologue could have been cut entirely - provide the details as the story progresses when referencing that same information in later dialogue. The sense of incestuous business relationships in a small town, and cultural impact of the environmental greed comes across well. Unfortunately, Leo, who has such an interesting relationship with Sasha in the first book is more of a peripheral character here (except at the end of the story ;-) While the author so perfectly captured the big firm environment in the first novel, the solo practioner element in this book is sketchy at best, so the story lacks the same gritty feel for the dark side of legal practice that was so cleverly skewered in the first book. This is a three star book that could have been a five with a little more effort and tighter editing, but sequels often come across that way. You still care enough about the characters to look forward to more in the series.

Another home run by Melissa Miller. The romance with Sasha and Connelly doesn't distract from the twisted plot and fulfilling resolution of this book. A really good read.

I love the entire Sasha McCandless Series! This is a book that you just can't put down. I wasn't sure if I would be into the books at first since this is a legal thriller and I'm more into medical thrillers. I read three of the Sasha McCandless books in less than two weeks. It would have been less if I didn't have to go to work! The books have a love story developing but is not too lovey dovey. The main plot obviously revolves around the legal case, but it throws in just enough of a love story.

This book continues Sasha's life 6 mths after the events in the 1st book. I found this book very interesting & entertaining as she uncovers the clues in this legal mystery. I got so engrossed I read it thru in one sitting! I highly Recommend this Wonderful story.

Enjoyable legal thriller with plenty of twists and turns. What begins as what seems to be a pretty straightforward case turns dark and dangerous in a hurry. When the town judge is murdered, there is no shortage of suspects that arise. From the local environmentalist to the big, bad oil companies, Sasha gets in much deeper than originally anticipated. Loved the characters and the pacing was enough to keep me wanting more. Not sure how I wound up with book 2 without reading 1, but looks like I'll have to head back and catch the beginning.

We live in Bradford County, PA--part of the state which has been ruined by the fracking for natural gas. This book also has a setting in an area of PA near Pittsburgh which has fracking as well. Everything is supposed to be safe and wonderful, but there is the chance of air and water contamination. Anyway, Sasha McCandless comes from Pittsburgh, and winds up getting involved in local matters, especially after the local judge is killed. Leo, her 'boyfriend' from Homeland Security helps her sort things out.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. I was not familiar with this author but the reviews looked good so wanted to give it a try. I couldn't put it down once I started and stayed up all night to finish it. It was such a well written, interesting story that I plan to read anything of this author's work I can get my hands on!

Liked the complicated plot and how Sasha figures out the solution. Also, I'm amazed at her fighting moves as I'm also only 5ft. tall. Her slight romance rather than steamy lends a bit of normalcy to the story. Enjoyable,
