With NOUVEAU FLAMENCO (1990), guitarist Ottmar Liebert cooked up a new genre. Incorporating elements of jazz, pop, and classical music, he cooled the sizzling fire of traditional flamenco while keeping the flame burning. Like all his subsequent albums, INNAMORARE overflows with memorable Spanish-flavored melodies. Take "2 the Night," for instance, a tune so warm and breezy you'll be reaching for that bottle of sangria. INNAMORARE offers spicier, salsa-inspired seasonings, too, with a horn section that punctuates some of the livelier songs. Liebert calls this album summer flamenco, and the music evokes the season's sun-baked, windswept, romantic nights of possibility.
