Description: Along with photographs of surgical instruments, this book offers brief descriptions of operative procedures. Changes made in this seventh edition update and include more procedures.
Purpose: The purpose is to present information about the various surgical instruments used in specific procedures. These are worthy objectives for staff at all levels who work in surgical suites.
Audience: The book was written for individuals working in surgical suites or in any setting where identification of surgical instruments is of necessity. It can be used by operating room technicians, scrub nurses, or circulating nurses.
Features: The photographs are clear and make it easy to identify the instruments. The author uses an approach from simple to more complex and divides by the types of procedures. For individuals learning or preparing to work in the surgical setting this book is useful.
Assessment: I would recommend this book to those working in surgical suites and to those new to a surgical procedure. It may be useful to those who prepare the surgical trays or tables when they are not sure of a specific instrument. This edition was needed due to new surgical approaches.
