~An Introductory Novella~
"When the pursuit of love trumps obligations..."
On the 3rd of June 1975 in New York, Edward and Pearl Riley receive the ultimate give of love - a newborn baby, wrapped in a blanket and stuffed in a burlap bag. The child's name, Sakkara, is written out on a torn sheet of paper, and immediately fills every void the married couple has ever had.
Pregnant seamstress Petrina Dugal becomes a runaway at the age of twenty-six. She flees the claws of a brutish husband, despite her adoration for a well-loved South American country known as Guyana. At the heart of the rebellion resides an enigmatic lover named Michael Chen. The journey to escape their choices lead the couple through the Caribbean's treasure trove of islands:
Trinidad & Tobago
The journey of the young couple from Guyana to New York is chronicled in very specific clues, left with baby Sakkara. But as she comes of age and begins learning the truth of her abandonment, the Caribbean calls out to this love child. Sakkara is set to unravel the mystery of her true heritage, and hopefully reunite with her long-lost parents.
Jumping Ship is the introductory novella to the Island Hopping series. This explosive collection boasts the rich culture of the West Indies, deep love, and a mystery unlike any other.

I found "Jumping Ship" a very good read that once you start it you will find it hard to put down. I loved how this author was able to pull her readers into the story and more over connect them with the characters. Also you can tell that this author really loved this country because of all the detailed description of it all near the Caribbean area as she brings us a good read. This was a love story with lots of mystery...as we follow a married woman and her lover and since this is a beginning of a series I am sure we will get a lots more. This is quite a read of a woman's strength in how she had dealt 'with an abusive husband, self awareness and love.' I will say that that part of the read was not pretty but then Petrina meets Mikey. I don't want to give any of it away and spoil it for you...Just pick up this amazing read to see for yourself how this author brings it all so well to the readers. There seems to be three parts to this story where you will see it all told with such a intriguing captivating way as the story unfolds. Let me first say that I liked this book, a lot. Janice G Ross did a suburb job on conveying one of the most universal themes of 'love and sacrifice'. Janice G Ross does an amazing job with a compelling story line in providing such a descriptive insight as to what the characters are feeling, I the reader, could empathize. I especially empathized with Petrina, which at times that was troubling for me since she was a married woman having an affair, but for the first time in her life, Petrina finally did something for herself. I highly recommend this book. 4.5 stars
This is a MUST read! Follow Janice as she tells this story as only she can! You won't be sorry! This is a MUST read!
Multitalented author Janice Ross brought us something new with the Jumping Ship series. I'll admit I'm such a big fan is Damaged Girls that I wasn't prepared for a change. Yet, this new book hit me with all kinds of emotion. The separation of good and bad people all had a hand in this young girls search for identity and her past existence. I can only want the best for Pet and cross my fingers for a reconciliation with her daughter as the series continues. Ross is giving us a plethora of emotion on a Caribbean island... And not just one island. I will be continuing this series to learn more about the people-- isn't that a plus to the story? I give Jumping Ship a big stamp of approval and high recommendation.
As I read this book, I found myself transported to another place and time. I was made privy to the intimate details of the characters' lives. I felt what they felt, saw what they saw. Their voices rang loud and clear, and when I reached the end, I found myself searching for more of this story. Janice Ross is the type of author who makes readers want to read and writers want to write. I'm looking forward to reading the entire Island Hopping Series!
