Another Everest book that was difficult to put down!

I was introduced to mountain climbing and Everest by Jon Krakauer in Into Thin Air. I've since read numerous books on Everest and other mountains. I particularly enjoyed the account of 1996 from another perspective, particularly that of a woman. I found the book engaging enough to overlook the typos and occasional awkward phrasing.

I loved this book.  The issues of picking and choosing a climbing team are new and things you would not think about are explained well. The behind the scene information is very interesting. I enjoy true life stories and this is  a great read.

This is a well written, adventure laden story of one woman's choices and the life altering experiences that followed. Cathy O'Dowd describes how her future plans were molded while she was in the process of finishing requirements for a degree when she saw what she thought was the opportunity of a lifetime and was accepted. She had always loved climbing so one major climb and she was hooked. She goes on to describe the climbs in which she was involved and the less than easy life she experienced while suffering the loss of friends and acquaintances who were also involved in climbing which was her now chosen profession.

the book was interesting to me because I love mountains and especially Everest. It was personal and informative. It was a good read.

Cathy O'Dowd is a whiner and a complainer. It is no wonder so many members of her expedition withdrew. I find that she is not a likeable character and as such am finding it difficult to plod through this account. I had such high hopes when i began reading but now on Chapter six i find that I am too irritated by her whining and complaining to finish.
