Justice for Mackenzie: Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series, Book 1 by Susan Stoker

A member of the famed Texas Rangers, Daxton Chambers has dealt with more than his share of depravity. But the Lone Star Reaper takes evil to a whole new level, kidnapping and burying women alive. It's Dax's job to help keep San Antonio safe, but even with help from friends in various law enforcement agencies, the killer remains two steps ahead. It's hardly the ideal time for a relationship, but Mackenzie Morgan is too luscious to resist. Dax wants her—which makes her an instant target for his newfound enemy.

When the Reaper gets personal, it will take every ounce of Daxton's considerable skill and training to keep Mack alive.

I did not know exactly what to expect when I started to read this book. It was a freebie, and sometimes those are the ones you just say meh and then delete them from your nook. This one will not be deleted. What a nail biter! The fact that the characters were all older, not "new adults," was refreshing. Everyone had serious jobs, no one was an angsty billionaire, and the focus was more on the plotline with just enough sex to make you fan yourself. The editing was very good, which is a huge plus to this picky reader. The situations were believable and the dialogue was spot on. My only disappointment was not getting to actually meet the crazy family Mack is always referring to. Maybe they will show up in subsequent books. All in all, I highly recommend this book. Good job Ms. Stoker! Diane in JAX

Good romance with nail biter who did it.

I didn't make it very far into this book. The writing is very stilted and the characters come across as extremely immature. It lost me when the main characters who are portrayed in their mid to late 30s act like characters from a badly written high school romance. Nice idea, poor execution.

Mach and Daxton are great together. Two grown up who are falling in love. Now add one pychotic serial killer fixated on Daxton. Get the tissue box out before reading you'll need it.

I had read all off the Navy SEAL protection series in the last few days. I loved all of them. This is the first in the Justice series and so far it has not disappointed. mjw

How to describe this book...AWESOME! Be warned, you will need tissues at some point. Mackenzie is just cuddly and lovable and I love the fact that she's not perfect in any way! Daxton is down to earth and a confirmed bachelor. The two meet by accident and he can't get her off his mind. Sadly, he doesn't get her contact information when fate gives him a 2nd chance. Watching them together getting to know each other and falling in love was fun, then one of Daxton's cases becomes involved. The laughter and the tears of this book are totally refreshing! Can't wait for Cruz's encounter!

I had never read this author before but I will now! I expected the standard romance of law man meets damsel in destress. I did not expect can't put it down, whooha clenching (Yes I said it), half a box of Kleenex needed, roller coster I just stepped off of! Well written is an understatement, THIS was a great read!

Was ok , there was a lot of excess swearing I thought .

Didn't enjoy this as much as her Protecting Series. Characters seemed a bit unbelievable and the relationship was underdeveloped.

Not for the faint of heart. This was some real live cray-cray stuff. But I love the main characters and how they interacted. Awesome story.

I loved this cute, funny suspenseful book. 153 pages. I gave it 4 stars because it & Protecting Caroline is so similar, almost likejust a change of name, good guys & bad guys. I knew she would be captive from the first page. I loved Mack & Dax & all the rest. Wished someone had kidnapped Nancy. GJRA

I really loved this story. MacKenzie was very funny but the word cute was used so many times to describe her that it lost a star for that. The last few chapters had me getting teary-eyed that I had to stop n pull my self together, it was great when a story can do that to a reader I loved it. Hopefully the next book in the series is as good as this one..

Looks like the beginning of a great news series. This is my first book by this author, it won't be my last. Like the idea of all the different law enforcement agencies being the heroes.

Wow, that's all I've got. Be prepared with a box of tissues when you read this one. I don't want to give anything away, but when they are looking for Mackenzie and she and Dax are talking on the phone I had tears running down my cheeks. Powerful stuff. There is also lots of laughter and some very sexy love scenes written in the book, but Mrs Stoker did an amazing job with this one. Love, Love, Love this book.

MUST READ!! I've read and loved Susan Stokers's Protecting stories but OMG I almost skipped to the epilogue. What a roller coaster. I was so sad and upset for Mack and Dax. She won me over with actual grown ups too. At first I was like 46 and 37 *pause* but they were fun and sexy! Now I'm scared to read the other Badge of Honor books. :)

MacKenzie is 37 years old, 5'4", a little heavy/curvy, and single. Daxton is 46 years old, tall, hard-bodied, single, and a Texas Ranger. These two meet briefly and notice each other. When they "run" into each other again, Daxton takes it as a sign to follow up on his initial interest. He convinces her to date him and they explore their budding relationship. He has crazy law enforcement hours and she loves to talk (adorably babble) about everything in an honest, refreshing way and often tell people how to do things better (her way). Will these issues drive these two apart? Daxton is smitten and adores her. She is feeling beautiful and hopeful. Several sex scenes are described. Then a psychotic serial killer Daxton is after makes things personal and puts MacKenzie in danger. The thrills, suspense and exciting page-turning romance story will pull you along with their adventure. I loved this story and applaud and cheer for all the law enforcement officers from the different agencies. Wonderful story, well-developed and likeable characters, and just enough twists to keep one guessing.

Why did MacKenzie cuss so much? I found that weird.

I enjoyed the fact that the main characters were not teenyboppers... a nail biter for sure. Highly recommended

I love all of Susan's Seal books they are perfection, IMO. Starting a new series, book 1 Justice for Mackenzie started out just a little slower than her other books, believe you won't be disappointed though. And I loved Mack with her honesty and nervous rambling, a strong independent who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. Thanks again Susan, bring on book 2.

Book Excursions Book Reviews 5 Stars!!! I was given this book in turn for an honest review!!! Daxton was happily living the life of a single man; having resigned himself to living that way for the rest of his life. When his friend drags him to a charity event the brief encounter with Mackenzie Morgan turned out to be so much more than either of them could have imagined. Susan Stoker has kicked off another awesome series; she had me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. You will find yourself all hot and bothered one moment, in awe the next, then in total shock and absolute tears. Mackenzie Morgan is one strong woman. Regardless of her own wellbeing or emotional state she always thinks of others first; she brought out the best in Daxton; she gave him the support and love he was missing in his life. Together they had the greatest sense of humour; their passionate connection was undeniable. Daxton Chambers is everything I love in an older man; this book seriously got me all hot and bothered from their first kiss alone. Daxton is HOT; the man truly knows how to treat a lady; he is also loyal to his career. Without a doubt, Susan Stoker will have you sat on the edge of your seat as the events unfold; she even had me doubting the final outcome for Daxton and Mackenzie. I can’t wait to read more from Badge of Honour series. If you have previously read any of Susan Stoker books than you won’t want to miss out on the Badge of Honour series. If you love suspenseful, contemporary, romances you will love Protecting Mackenzie by Susan Stoker.

As someone who LOVED the Seal of Protection series I was like oh ok a new series. Honestly not all that excited about it at first. Then Susan started posting little teases about Justice for Mackenzie on her Facebook page and that really started to pique my interest. Boy am I glad she did too!! In my opinion this is one of her best books! Phenomenal job Susan! This book drew me in from the very first page with the way the guys where ribbing each other. Then enter Mack and her rambling. Hilarious! Dax is a Texas Ranger and totally an alpha male and gentleman. Mack is the sweet rambling woman that everyone loves. Throw in a psycho serial killer to the mix, then you got this crazy romantic thriller! I was on an emotional rollercoaster. One minute I was like “awe their so cute together” and “that girl is crazy with her rambling” to “damn that hot!!!” I felt like I was watching two of my friends meet and fall in love. Then I was seating on the edge of my seat going “NOOOOO” “OMG this can’t be happening!!” Seriously grab a box of tissue and enjoy the ride. The one down fall to a book like this is you better make sure you have time to read the whole thing in one sitting because you are not going to want to put it down!!! In this book we also meet the “Texas Heroes” (some only briefly) that future books will be based on. Eagerly waiting on the next book in November!!
