Children's Literature
Any young reader will enjoy this book about kangaroos, with its color photos and cool facts about these Australian mammals. For example, although many children can quickly tell you that kangaroos can hop, they may not know that these animals cannot walk backwards. The text is large and easy to read, and briefly covers subjects such as where kangaroos live and what they eat. There is also a section that describes kangaroo mobs, and readers will learn about these special groups that kangaroos live in and how boomers—or male kangaroos—fight for leadership within their mobs. This book also explains that kangaroos are unique mammals that are part of the marsupial group, and includes great pictures of adorable joeys in their mothers' pouches. A short glossary contains key words such as habitat and predator, and there is an index. This title is part of the "Buddy Books Animal Kingdom" series. 2005, ABDO Publishing Company, Ages 5 to 8.
