Keepsake by Antoinette Stockenberg

Readers who enjoy Barbara Freethy, Nora Roberts and the classics of Mary Stewart will savor this intensely emotional story of family, betrayal and redemption, set in a quaint town in New England.

KEEPSAKE. It's not a hand-made quilt, or an ivory pin, or a pretty small box for treasures ....

It's the name of a postcard-perfect town in Connecticut. From its quaint gazebo to its white-steepled church and village green, Keepsake is the kind of place most would love to call home, especially at Christmas. It's home to Olivia Bennett, the town princess who has a charming shop there. It was home once to Quinn Leary, the son of her family's gardener: Quinn fled as a teenager with his father who was accused of a murder he didn't commit. And Keepsake is home, still, to someone with mayhem on his mind. When Quinn returns after an absence of seventeen years, he has one desire: to prove his father's innocence. It's not until he sees his childhood school rival, now a grown woman, that he realizes he harbors another but equally passionate desire--and that the two are tragically at odds.

About the Author

USA Today bestselling novelist Antoinette Stockenberg grew up wanting be a cowgirl and have her own horse (her great-grandfather bred horses for the carriage trade back in the old country), but the geography just didn't work out: there weren't many ranches in Chicago. Her other, more doable dream was to write books, and after stints as secretary, programmer, teacher, grad student, boatyard hand, office manager and magazine writer (in that order), she achieved that goal, writing over a dozen novels, several of them with paranormal elements. One of them is the RITA award-winning EMILY'S GHOST.

Stockenberg's books have been published in eleven languages and are often set in quaint New England harbor towns, always with a dose of humor. She writes about complex family relationships and the fallout that old, unearthed secrets can have on them. Sometimes there's an old murder. Sometimes there's an old ghost. Sometimes once-lovers find one another after half a lifetime apart.

Her work has been compared to writers as diverse as LaVyrle Spencer, Nora Roberts and Mary Stewart by critics and authors alike, and her award-winning novels have appeared on bestseller lists in USA Today as well as the national bookstore chains. Her website features sample chapters, numerous reviews, and many photos, as well as a charming Christmas section.

This is the first book of Stockenberg's that I have read. It quickly became my favorite book of all time. The characters are well thought out and believable. The story line hooks you from the beginning and never lets you down. Keepsake a delightfully easy read. I can't wait to read more of Stockenberg's books!

Quinn, a stonemason, and Olivia, daughter of the richest man in town, are a nice twist on the rich boy, poor girl theme. They have great chemistry. Lots of appealing secondary characters; Quinn's old English teacher was a particular gem. The mystery did keep me guessing to the very end.

This book had everything you need. A handsome, mysterious man; a beautiful, independent woman; colorful characters, a mystery and all taking place in an idyllic town. A good, interesting read. I wanted it to go further.

Highly Recommend This book is another must read by Antoinette Stockenberg! This book makes you want to keep on reading it, right from the start. The mystery kept me guessing until the end and my guess was wrong. Just like all of her other books, I had trouble putting it down.

I will say that you get your money's worth as far as the cost of the book and the length. In fact, this book was a little too long for me. It would have benefitted from better editing, I think. I liked the idea of the story, and the mystery was fine, until a vengeful stalker was thrown in with predicatable results(dead rat, nasty flowers, etc.) I liked the hero, Quinn, and he was multi-dimensional. I felt like I got to know him way better than I did the heroine, Olivia. Mrs. D, a secondary character, was delightful, and I think her friendship with Quinn was one of my favorite parts of the story. What I did not like, besides the stalker aspect, was the resolution of the mystery. I did not like the who of the who-dunnit--it changed how I felt about some of the characters and their lack of moral fiber. Can't say much more without giving away the plot. The ending dragged on. I might read something else by this author, but this just disappointed me after an enjoyable start to the book. There were some major typos and other issues that an editor should have caught. The book was worth the 99 cent cost, but is not a keeper for my library.

I truly liked this book with its strong sentamentality for small town, romance and family secrets. The hero Quinn seeks to solve a 17 year murder mystery that provides a number of surprise twists as eliminations are made. While the story has 800 pages it is an engaging quick read. Definitely strongly recommended.

I have read about 5 of this authors books and this one so far was the best. The story was very grabing and it was hard to put down and this book had over 900 pages but the 1 pages turn counted as two number pages.

My first book by this author. I enjoyed the high school friends meeting again 17 years later, both still single, very good romance.

I did not like the ones with ghost in them. They were silly. The others I have read including Keepsake are great. She is a wonderful writer and always keeps my interest.

I really enjoyed this book, as well as others by Stockenberg. Her stories are a nice break from the "serious" literature that I have read all my life. Her stories are always entertaining, with characters and plots that are believable.

KEEPSAKE was a great read. The characters were well developed and progressed throughout the novel. As always, there was a mystery, which kept me guessing until the end. Stockenberg's novels always develop, not just the characters, but the area in which they take place. The city or town, the businesses, the townspeople introduced have back stories, so they are not just thrown into the plot. I appreciate that development in her novels. This novel was fun to read and held my interest right through to the denouement.

I stumbled upon Emily's Ghost and loved the book! I read A Charmed Place and just finished Keepsake. I love Antoinette Stockenberg's writing style, there's a little bit of romance and mystery. Keepsake didn't let me down, it kept me guessing until the very end. On to read another one of her book, A Month at The Shore.
