Overview

On the precipice of change ... Just not the way he'd expected ...
Kerrick is tagged to join a new elite group, where he'd have more say and less rules on missions. Working mostly alone, he's to track down a kidnapped victim suspected of being in England, and likely she's not the only one. This is his kind of job; finding out a longtime friend is his backup makes this mission a go.

Amanda is snatched at the end of her workday while walking to her vehicle. Days later she wakes to find she's imprisoned, alone in a small cement cell. One rotting meal a day is provided, and that is it. Once she realizes someone else is here–a young boy—she's even more determined to escape. And to take him with her. Running into Kerrick wasn't the plan ...

Escaping is only one part of the puzzle as the truth drags them to Europe and beyond as they sort out how the two kidnappings are related, who's behind it all and why ... Before they are run aground and imprisoned all over again ...

This one didn't do it for me. Too uneven....some parts were ok but not consistent. Not up to the usual standard for this author. Don't bother.

Another good book by a good author. Like one review, though, I thought there wasn't closure on some things at the end. I don't want to say more and give away anything for new readers.

Kerrick is the first book in the new Mavericks series. The Maverick's are a government-sanctioned black ops organization. Kerrick, a Navy seal, is looking for a change after years in the SEALs. When asked to help with one mission, he decides that this is the change that he needs. His assignment is to rescue a kidnapped scientist, but to keep her safe he needs to find who is behind the kidnapping. This book starts with a lot of action and does not stop until the end. Of course along with all the action is a happily ever romance. This is the start of another great Dale Mayer series I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is book one in The Mavericks series and we start with Kerrick and Amanda. He’s been sent to rescue kidnapped Dr. Amanda Berg, who is thought to have possibly come up with a cure for certain types of cancer. The action and suspense are fantastic. The rescue plans, escape plans and the following adventure are probably a little too detailed but still exciting. The romance is slow building in the background, which is nice for a change. This author definitely knows how to keep the action in the forefront. I am loving this new series! The characters are fantastic and the story lines are exciting, packed with action, adventure and finally a little romance. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Book 1 in a new series. Kerrick is a SEAL at the junction of a new adventure, the start of a new division of a special division. Total independence, yet assistance just a phone call, a text away. Working with a fellow SEAL. Strong men, a caring woman and a rescued child. Many questions to be answered, needing the skills and intelligence of all involved. This is the start of another great series. Bravo, Dale Mayer! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A great start to a new series by this author that has more action, death and suspense that will keep you flipping the pages. Kerrick is contacted to join an elite group, a group off the books to complete an assignment with little back up. The assignment, rescue Amanda who was kidnapped and is a researcher, researching new cancer cures/treatments with many contacts. Kerrick has little to go by and investigates all angles to find where she is being held and once he does locate her, she has company, a young boy genius, Brandon, who was also being held. Now they all have to evade the kidnappers and stop them before they find Amanda and Brandon. A great read with some steam, action and suspense and great characters. I enjoyed this read, the fast pace of it and the no drama between the couples. No hiding or running away from their feelings and the way they all work together to get to the end of their ordeal.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy. This is a great start to a new series. This is a home run. I was glued to my e-reader right from the beginning. Ms. Mayer has a gift of story-telling that completely enchants me. This story is about Kerrick. He is at a cross-roads in his life. His career in the Navy is almost over and he doesn't know what to do with his skills-set. He receives a mysterious message to meet at a bar close to the base. Kerrick is given an assignment to rescue a kidnapped scientist. The job is mysterious in the fact that Kerrick is given a burner phone and very few details. He will have to learn on the fly. In fact, it is Kerrick who names the black ops group, The Mavericks. Dr. Amanda Berg is on the cusp of curing cancer. She is kidnapped outside of her lab in Paris, France. She is held hostage with very little food or drink. She suspects the meal is even drugged. She eats enough to keep her mind sharp so she can escape when given the opportunity. Not all into her confinement, she discovers there could be even more people there. She communicates with a young boy that is being held above her in Morse Code. The ten year old is a Mansa just like herself. The escape and rescue of Amanda and Brandon, the ten year old, is one that had me holding my breath at times. Keeping ahead of the kidnappers while trying to discover the link between the two kidnappings is one that kept me glued to my e-reader. I adored the dual POV format of this book. Seeing into the characters' mind really shows where the attraction between the two characters lay, at least in the beginning. Because of the suspense and intrigue there is just so much action going on that the two characters don't act upon the attraction in the beginning. There is one sexy scene but it was written in such a manner that it should not offend anyone. That being said though, I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves intrigue and mystery with their romance.

I thought that this was a great read and a perfect start to this new series. You can expect lots of edge of your seat tension, action, drama, danger, adventure, excitement, emotion, mystery, suspense and romance. I liked Kerrick and Amanda. They were both strong, capable characters and I felt that they made a excellent couple. It also didn't hurt that they had sizzling hot chemistry.

Kerrick has been a Navy Seal long enough to know he needed more at this point in his life. Once he embraced the regulation of the service especially after losing his wife and daughter to an accident years ago but now at 34 years of age, he was ready for a change. This change was offered by a covert black ops team ready to protect with different rules. The call came from a friend who offered this change and in the course of the conversation Kerrick called him a bit of a maverick. The friend liked the word "Maverick" and it stayed as an ID for this newly forming organization. So Kerrick accepted this challenge and soon was off to England to save the kidnapped girl---well, woman, Dr. Amanda Berg and also (unknown to Kerrick) the boy she had saved from another cell in the prison. Amanda and Brandon were escaping when Kerrick arrived. Apparently Amanda had multiple people who might want her kidnapped including her dad's enemies, the research lab where she worked making great advances in cancer research and her ex-husband who had signed a prenup and got nothing in their divorce. Brandon had issues as well. So Kerrick was off to find Amanda which was no small task, rescue her and find answers to the kidnapping to keep her safe. There was also the matter of Brandon who was only 10 years old but a member of Mensa as was Amanda. Griffin (a member of "Maverick") joined Kerrick at the prison for the escape. The banter among these people is absolutely priceless. There is no lack of adventure in both the escape from prison and the need to survive and the battle to find answers afterwards. I don't want to say more for fear of giving away too much. Great start to a new series that I'm ready to follow.

First in a brand new series licks off with a story full of suspense and action, complete with a feisty heroine who isn't just going to sit back and wait for others to rescue her. She is clever and resourceful, not one to be walked over or used by anyone. Kerrick is unsure of his future until he sees a photo. No stopping him going to any lengths needed to help a damsel in distress, what he finds is much more. Twists keep this interesting and there's some action along the way, it is exciting and a bit mysterious. Great start and I am looking forward to diving into more.

WooHoo! A very exciting new series! Secret, stealth, Black Ops, one - two man teams, little to no outside help from anyone means they're on their own for a very dangerous assignment! I was excited to jump right into this new and exciting series about an elite operation full of adventure, danger and intrigue, all happening outside the U.S. It will test the mettle of these hand chosen warriors to see if they can handle being lead on a intricate, seemingly impossible, and very dangerous mission. Kerrick is hand picked to find and rescue scientist, Dr. Amanda Berg, who was kidnaped outside her home in France and taken to an unknown destination. Who, where and why are what Kerrick and his teammate Griffin, need to discover to rescue Dr. Berg before she is gone forever. I enjoyed the travel involved in this story and the ease in which Kerrick and Griffin are with moving around in foreign cities to find their clues to Amanda’s whereabouts. I love their confidence in their training and abilities to take on the enemy at a moment’s notice despite the danger to their own lives. A very exciting story filled with adventure, realistic scenarios, danger, and wholesome kinship. This author can whip up the excitement and bring you to your knees in just a few paragraphs! This is a must read for sure and this series promises to be epic!

I loved this book. This book was a fantastic way to start the series. The characters were awesome and interacted so great that they had you falling in love with them from the start. Love that the series starts off with a bang. The story line starts out grabbing a hold of you and doesn't let go till you hit the end. The book has suspense, action and romance. The way Dale explains the background of the characters had me loving them and not wanting the book to end. I really loved how there was a younger character in the book who is one of the main characters. Love, Love, Love this start to the series and look forward to the next book! The First Book of a New Series!! Kerrick is the first book in Dale Mayer’s new series The Mavericks, a new line of her extraordinary family of books (SEALs of Honor, Heroes for Hire, SEALs of Steel, K9 Files, and Hathaway House) about current and former Navy SEALs whose SEAL skills save lives and put away bad guys and also fight their own demons as they work to heal broken bodies and spirits. In The Mavericks we meet SEALs who are finding it difficult to accept the rigid military method for solving problems. As Kerrick so aptly described it, he began to question having men whose boots were not on the ground there make decisions about matters they couldn’t possibly comprehend from a long way off. The Mavericks group operates with short-term assignments conducted by two SEALs with boots on the ground and support from a contact behind the scenes via a chat function who provides intel and meets their supplies needs, be they food, weapons, vehicles, or some pretty cool satellite or security videos. The role of the Maverick is to get in, complete the assignment, and get out leaving no evidence of having been there. In this first book, Kerrick is approached through a text message from another SEAL he knew a long time ago, who offers him an assignment with the assurance that it is a mission similar to one he recently completed, so he has all the skills needed. Kerrick has the choice to accept or not, and he will be asked only to do this one assignment. If he accepts leadership of mission, he will be joined by another SEAL known to him and who will provide back-up now, and then take the lead on the next mission, akin to the “learn one, do one, teach one” process I’ve seen in medical education. On this mission, Griffin joins Kerrick in the rescue of a kidnapped cancer researcher. Very exciting and really cool! When you finish Kerrick’s story, be sure to read Books 2and 3 for Griffin’s and Jax’s missions. They are released on the same day, so don’t make any other plans for at least two days after you get them. You won’t be able to stop reading until you finish the last one. No spoilers here. You have to read them for yourself. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

New suspenseful covert team series ....Navy SEAL Kerrick was at a crossroads when he was recruited to be part of a covert black ops team. His mission is to rescue Dr. Amanda Berg, a brilliant female biochemist. Other than a partner that would be named later, his only contact would be from a cyber team through a chat box. There would be scant information, but requested resources and transportation would be provided. Amanda had been snatched off the street by unknown kidnappers. Far from being helpless, Amanda needs to escape and help Brandon, a boy, escape as well. Kerrick will need to use his instincts to keep Amanda and Brandon escape. With Amanda and Brandon's help, Kerrick will need to determine who is behind their kidnapping and why they were taken. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the start of a new suspenseful series blended with romance. I love the book and look forward to the rest of the series.

This is the start of yet another action packed military romance series from Dale Mayer. Kerrick Cassidy has reached a crossroads in his life, his wife and child had been killed in a car accident a few years before , he had been a highly decorated navy SEAL but his time with his team was coming to an end. He is unsure what direction his life is going to take when he receives a mysterious text message from a guy that he had known a long time ago and who he had heard had joined the military. Kerrick had loved his time in the navy but had become disillusioned with all the red tape and restrictions. The text message asked for a meeting and Kerrick was to learn of a US Government funded maverick team of black opp operators who worked alone or in very small teams, usually two members and with very few restrictions, any help, information or anything else required was asked for and given via a chat window on a computer from the nameless employer. Kerrick was offered a job and decided to give it a try. Dr Amanda Berg, a research scientist who was on the verge of discovering a cure for cancer, was kidnapped in France and taken to England, she was held in a concrete cell with only a cot, a thin blanket, a chamber pot and very little food. Amanda's father had requested help to find her. In another cell was a twelve year old boy, Brandon Coleman, who had a very high Mensa IQ and who managed to converse with Amanda using Morse code. Amanda manages to escape taking Brandon with her. Was someone trying to steal Amanda's research ? was she up for ransom ? was Brandon's father involved ? Here the story and the action begin and Kerrick has Griffin to back him. This book contains action, kidnapping, corruption, trafficking of body parts and of course romance, the author is to be recommended for her military knowledge This is a standalone book but the epilogue gently leads to the next story and I can't wait to read it. I predict that this series will be another runaway success for Dale Mayer.
