Following the death of her father, a police detective, Kara Summers drops out of law school and moves back to Sunny Shores, Florida. She has dreams of opening her own restaurant, as she loves to bake. But to make ends meet in the meantime, she starts her own Food Truck business called Burger, She Wrote, in Grove Park. She is assisted by Star Daniels, an employee, and Ty, a long time friend. With Grove Park being a favorite tourist stop along the Florida beaches, business is pretty good. The choicest spot in Grove Park used to belong to Carlos Martinez, owner of the Loco Taco truck, until John Harmon and the rest of the town council held a secret meeting and awarded to the spot to the Mama Mia Food Truck, which is owned by John Harmon and run by his step-son, Chris. Following a lunch rush, Star and Kara are working around the truck when they overhear an argument between John Harmon and Chris. The next morning when she arrives at Grove Park, Kara learns that the Mama Mia Food Truck has blown up and John Harmon was killed. Everybody thought it was an accident, until a video from a security camera shows a hooded figure running away from the food truck moments before the explosion. Nobody seems upset about his death, as he was not well liked around town. Afraid of scaring off the tourists, the mayor wants the death declared an accident and the case closed. Who killed John Harmon? Why was he killed? Can Kara figure out what is happening and solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim? This is the first book in the series and starts a little slow in order to lay the groundwork and introduce the characters. Once the groundwork is set, the story moves along at a steady pace and has enough twists and turns to keep you engaged.
