From the hellhole of a Taliban prison to sweet freedom, five brave military heroes have made it home—and they’re ready to take on the civilian missions no one else can. Individually they’re intimidating. Together they’re invincible. They’re the men of ARES Security.
Rafe Vargas is only in Newton, Iowa, to clear out his late grandfather’s small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he's eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can't just walk away—not when she’s clearly in danger…
There’s a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie’s dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe’s instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie’s courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won’t stop. Now it’s only a matter of time before Annie’s next—unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won’t be buried.

For anyone who is already a huge fan of Alexandra Ivy and for those who are new to her books, this new series is a must read. Can't wait for the next book to come out

This is not her best. There was no build up to the relationship or the main characters. They have a very brief initial meeting and hes suddenly overly familiar amd weirdly possesive. Then she moves right in and the attraction is portayed like its been this great build up of sexual tension and there wasn't. I went back because I thought I had missed a chunk. But nope. Suddenly they're in the midst of an oddly intense relationship after a day poking through ultra personal and traumatic events.

KILL WITHOUT MERCY is an absolutely exciting start to the ARES Security series and if the rest of the books are anything like this one, then the series is sure to be a winner and that's saying a lot considering how popular her PNR romances have been. Here's why. Ms. Ivy combines romance, suspense, mystery and my favorite, bonds and connections that make people into a family, into a story that makes me want to be a part of what they've got going on. Take five military guys with who have forged an unbreakable bond in captivity, each with a skill that complements the others' and have them come together to open a security company. That's just where the fun begins because that bond becomes the foundation of everything for them and they'll be there for each other unconditionally, no questions asked. Rafe Vargas is off to Newton, Iowa to clean out his grandfather's house and put it up for sale. The plan is to get in and get out as quickly as possible, and get back to establishing their company. Until he walks into a diner and sees Annie White. And his priorities get a makeover. Rafe at the core of him is a protector and he's not going to walk away from someone who's in danger, especially not the woman who just captured all of his attention. Annie used to live in Newton until the scandal surrounding the town's most infamous serial killer, the Newton Slayer led to her leaving. It's been fifteen years and just when she thinks she's put the past behind her, she started having visions of the killings again, but how is that possible considering that the alleged killer has been dead for fifteen years? The compulsion to find out if her visions have any basis in reality drives her to Newton and right into Rafe's path. Let me confess this: I have a big, fat crush on Rafe! He's gorgeous, he's sexy, he's down to earth but most of all, he's the heart of the group and the glue that keeps everyone together. He relies on his gut and makes decisions on the fly in the field, so it's no surprise that it doesn't take him long to decide that he wants Annie in his life permanently and get right on making it happen, in spite of the less than ideal timing. I love the connection between him and Annie, how protective he is of her and how he also respects her freedom to make her own decisions even if they are not exactly to his liking. I also love how the team enfolded her into their unit and gave her the family she had always wanted. The story itself has got some major suspense going on, lots of secrets, mysteries and shadows, and just when you think you have it all figured out, everything changes and you're scrambling to keep up. I could go on talking about just how much I enjoyed reading this book and just so you know, I went searching for information on the next book in the series (couldn't find any). I'll definitely recommend this to anyone who loves romantic suspense and even those who haven't tried it. If Ms. Ivy is open to suggestions, I would love to read Lucas's story next. I love alexandra ivy's books. But this one ,in my opinion, isn't that great. I'm disappointed bc I was looking forward to it. It felt rushed and not satisfying. I know its only a book but really? Meets a girl and a day later is in love and wants her to move to another state with him? It felt off. Didn't give them enough time to get to know eachother and the attraction felt forced. The heroine didn't seem like she felt about him like he does her. Just not one of her best work. I hope other readers liked it better. This is just my opinion.

Kill Without Mercy is book one in the ARES Security series by Alexandra Ivy. This was a good start. I had a nice time reading Kill Without Mercy. We get a few surprises, action, a mystery, & romance. Their is a whole lot of yumminess. We got to meet the five men that make up the ARES team. I liked that we got to meet them and learn a little about each. They all sounded interesting and I can’t wait to read their stories. Rafe and Annie where a good mix for a couple. Rafe steps in to save the day and the girl along with the help of his friends who immediately lead their support and protection. Annie was easy to like. The story was enjoyable and fun. It has plenty of action, mystery, suspense, and drama which was captivating. The romance was a little quick, but it was still a delightful story. I look forward to more in this series. Rated: 3 Stars

Five soldiers had been held in a Taliban prison in Southern Afghanistan . They had five weeks of brutal torture and had been taught by this there are things worse then death. The five soldiers were Rafe who was a covert ops specialist, then Max trained in forensics, Hauk was a sniper who was a expert with weapons, Teagan was a computer wizard, and Lucas who was a smooth talking hostage negotiator. They all became family while in that prison and bound with the will to survive. It had been two years since they got out of the service and five months ago they had all moved to Texas. The found the Saloon to hang out at a small cozy bar. They all still remembered from the war to lower your guard could mean death or worse. They had started up a new security business called Ares and soon it would be open for business. They had been getting notes of warning and there had been three so far. Annie had walked away from her job at Anderson Accounting six months after she had been hired, Katherine and Douglas Lowe were her foster parents. Annie had been a ten year old daughter of a .serial killer - Newton Slayer who had killed seven women before being caught and she was the only survivor. Katherine and her husband toke Annie in which was rare most would not especially after Annie had been in a mental institution for several months. Annie swore she had visions of the murders in her sleep as they happened. But her father was now dead he was killed in his cell and never stood trial. Then they visions had started up again two nights ago. In a few days it would be the fifteenth anniversary of when the killings started. Rafe had to clean his grandfathers house out as it had been sold. He was not looking forward to it as his grandfather never forgave his father for leaving. Rafe had stopped to eat and had met Annie sorta. Annie is determined to find the women who have the same profile as the women her father had killed before they two were killed. Annie seems to be the focus of the serial killer. This was definitely a excellent story. Excellent plot and writing excellent characters and secondary characters. There is alot in this story but it is not overpowering. There is: action, mystery, suspense, passion, a serial killer, murder, a target and so much more even some romance. I loved the twists and turns in this story and I highly recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Alexandra is an auto buy for me. This new series exceeded my expectations. The story carried me along, there was suspense, twist, romance. I was thrilled to read a book with a great plot not glued together with erotica. No fear, there is sex, but it's not the main story.

First in a new series by Alexandra Ivy! ARES Security. Rafe Vargas, a covert ops specialist now stateside and the four men that he calls his brothers are determined to start their own security business. While they will make their base in Texas, Rafe has to travel to Iowa and deal with the detritus his grandfather left behind in his passing, long estranged from his son and grandson, only the thought of finding something of value barely makes it worth the trouble. Small towns, everyone knows your business and memories are long, the looks Rafe receives especially from the Sheriff certainly aren't welcome, but the looks from the women are a different story. A young woman with a haunting disposition catches Rafe's attention and his knight in shining armor/save the damsel in distress instinct kicks in. To find out she's the daughter of a serial killer who struck fear in this town and the approach of the fifteenth anniversary of the last murder committed, followed by the subsequent suspicious death the day he was captured while in custody is disconcerting enough. Annie White has been gone from Newton, Ohio for fifteen years, but cannot explain the compelling need to return. Well actually she can, because Annie White knows the murders are happening again, she can see them! This time she is determined she can bring and end to them.

I just loved this story, I enjoyed every single scene and word of it. I loved the author's voice and the way she told the story, and how it flows through the pages. There's serious, gruesome crimes that are committed, but the author manages to implement some beads of dark humor into the story, that gives it lighter moments of joy. The suspense and action is mostly scary, even creepy at times, the intensity level staying up through the story, since there's a well balanced mix of emotions and investigative tools used to solve the crime and move the story on. Love it. The characters are all pretty amazing. The brothers of the heart have a unique bond, that war has melted in between them. The loyalty, protectiveness, and support they offer to each other was touching. They are all such true alpha male warriors, but they have a soft heart, at least for their brothers, whom they are willing to do anything for. Annie and Rafe, they have chemistry and heat, they just basically melt in each others company. But they have more than just lots of sex appeal. All those alpha warrior's feelings that the brothers have for each other, are ten fold, what Rafe feels for Annie. To have her, to hold her, to possess her, is all he wants in his life after meeting her. But the feelings are mutual, even when super protective towards Annie, it is obvious to the reader, and Annie, that he only wants to keep Annie safe and alive. This was one of those few books, that after reading it, you just sit there and wonder when the next adventure comes out, and before that happens, could we just hang out or something, cause the you felt the connection to the characters so strong. I will be looking forward to more in this series, the story was alluring, engaging, and captured my mind. ~ Five Spoons

***SPOILERS*** 3.5 Star Review I have some conflicting feelings about the story. First of all, I thought it was well-written and entertaining. I enjoyed the book and thought the mystery/suspense aspect of the story was thrilling. There were some minor things that bugged me and often took me out of the story. When the ARES men would refer to each other, there would often be a “the older man said” or “the younger man said” that was kind of off-putting. Not that it was a big deal or anything, but it got me to thinking, do these men have significant age differences between each other? Age is not really mentioned of any of the men of ARES, but every time someone was referred to as “older” or “younger” made it difficult to visualize the characters, thus taking my concentration out of the story. Like I said, it’s not a huge deal, but it was a little disconcerting to me while reading. Another thing that bugged me was the lack of growth in Rafe and Annie’s “relationship.” It wasn’t really a relationship, per se. Stuff happened and Rafe was unfortunately in Annie’s path and was quickly swept up in her drama. [By the 40% mark, they were already in bed and Rafe was spouting odes to the tune of, “I’m never letting you go.” and “You’re coming to live with me and be in my bed, etc. etc.” (hide spoiler)] I didn’t feel they had chemistry, more like a relationship of convenience. And I didn’t much care for Annie at all. I feel like her character was eclipsed her past tragedy and we never really see who she is. The men of ARES are interesting. A few men get more page time than others and I felt they had a good dynamic as a team. I just wish we could’ve seen more of them. I thought the suspense was good and some parts of the book were a little difficult to handle, especially the mention of someone’s past that included child abuse. I’m on the fence on whether I want to continue the series. I would recommend the book though because Alexandra Ivy is a gifted author and she did write a good book. I just had some hiccups along my reading journey. ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

The serial killer kept you guessing the whole time you were sweating with them and I love that. Ms. Ivy did a masterful job of introducing this new series by giving us just enough history so that it didn’t bog down the storytelling. The men of ARES are each unique with a tight bond that holds them together. Their easy banter hides a lot of secrets that I can’t wait to read about. I completely enjoyed this sexy, witty and tension filled novel. A perfect start to a new series. *Review copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

As a fan of Alexandra Ivy’s paranormal books, I was excited that she is starting a new series with a slight paranormal flare. Annie had a terrifying physic ability, as a child she saw murders as they were happening. Her father was arrested for these murders and killed in prison before he ever went to trial. Years later, Annie is an adult and the dreams have returned. She is again plagued with the dreams of murders. Annie decides to return to her hometown. She needs to find out if these are just dreams that haunt her from her past or if a murderer again is claiming the lives of the women in her hometown. Rafe’s estranged grandfather has died, leaving Rafe the beneficiary of a rundown home in a small town. Last thing he expects while facing this difficult chore is finding a woman that ignites his every protective instinct and desires. When one in the Ares team gets invoiced the entire team has their back. I absolutely loved this book. The mystery thriller with the physic connection was awesome but the over all story telling style sealed the deal for me. Flat out, Kill Without Mercy was an extraordinary new read and series by one of my go to authors, Alexandra Ivy. I received this ARC copy of Kill Without Mercey from Kensington Books - Zebra in exchange for a honest review.

I started reading Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series back when it came out in 2007. The series was sexy and fun, and I had a good time with it, but with one thing and another, I have fallen a few books behind. (Although I did mange to read the two novellas staring my favorite little gargoyle.) So when I saw that the author had a new non paranormal series coming out, I had to take a look. Didja see that cover? Plus, how often are you going to find true badasses in Iowa, for goodness sake? That alone had me taking a closer look. This started out as the typical ex-military turned security group, with some variation to keep it fresh and current, romantic suspense novel. Intro the guys, zoom in our hero and then meet the heroine and next set up their initial random meeting. Isn't it funny how after reading enough of this genre, you can tell the basic road map of the journey that the author will be taking you on? It's the details that make or break the story. And can I just say that the details totally and completely made this one, at least for me. I just kept being surprised with the twists and turns in the story. I'd think I had a handle on the direction of things, and *bam* we'd take sharp 90 degree turn. This kept me in the moment and not skimming ahead. I really enjoyed not knowing what was going to happen next and being surprised with where the author took the story line. The series story arc was introduced early, we had a chance to get to know all our heroes, and I have already started my book boyfriend crush on one of guys. Here's hoping his story is late in the series, since that will give me more time with him all to myself. ;) The story grabbed my attention and kept me involved right till the very end. I had to give it 4 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Zebra/Kensington for the opportunity to read and review the book.

I really enjoyed this! Kill Without Mercy starts off a new romantic suspense series about five ex-soldiers who now run a security company together. This first part is Rafe and Annie's story. They meet in Iowa where Rafe is supposed to clear out his grandfather's house. Women are disappearing in the area, and there seems to be a connection to Annie's past. With the help of Rafe's friends, Rafe and Annie start to look into the case of a serial killer from fifteen years ago to establish a link to the current kidnappings. While the premise wasn't completely new and unique, I really liked the characters and enjoyed their interactions. There was just the right mix of romance and suspense with some good twists. The writing was very good and the story fast paced to hold my attention throughout. This was my first book by Alexandra Ivy, and I look forward to following the rest of this series. I'm glad that I waited until the first of 2016 to read this one because it started my reading year off with a bang! Romantic suspense is my new "go to" genre these days and I've found another amazing author that I'll be following from here on out. Man. I'm a little irritated that I didn't find Alexandra Ivy before now but it's better than never! Kill Without Mercy is a fast paced read with lots of action. From the very beginning, you're thrown into the lives of Annie and Rafe and I just couldn't get enough of either of them from that first page. I found myself quickly falling in love with Rafe (and his team ... where everyone sounds amazingly yummy) and then also with Annie. The thing that I found with Ivy is that she's going to make you feel something for her characters ... you're either going to love them or hate them (I never found an in-between) and you'll respect the author even more because of this. She designed some awesomely full and complete characters that you'll be wanting more of even after you finish that last sentence. The story itself was engrossing. Even with all of my family Christmas holiday activities, I found myself counting down the minutes for when I would be able to pick this one back up and delve in even deeper. I didn't find anything unbelievable or useless in the story ... everything that was included on the pages was completely necessary and vital to what was going on or what would go on in the following pages. I appreciated the fact that the author kept things moving so swiftly. Because of this, the book really read as if it were a movie, playing in my mind as I read along. Great book, great author and definitely one I'll read again and follow forever. Fabulous start to the year. * I received this novel in exchange for an honest review *

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 3/4 Great start to a new series. I really enjoyed the first installment in Ms. Ivy’s new ARES Security series. The ARES Security series follows a band of brother who came together and survived the worst that life could throw at them. The security company is there second chance at everything. Rafe finds himself going to the small town where his grandpa lived and dies. He thought that it would be faced with cleaning up the house and putting it on the market. But what Rafe finds waiting for him in Newton will forever change his world. Annie White has lived with the knowledge that she is the daughter of a murder for 15 years. But then she starts having vision of the killer starting again she does the only thing she can think of. Return to Newton and see if she can stop a killer for good this time. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this story. I won’t tell you what, who or why you will have to pick up a copy for yourself and find out. I can’t wait to see what is next in this series.
