Not bad. A little slow in spots and needs better proofreading. The ending was a tease, but i will not actively seek out part 2.

I received this book from The Masquerade Crew in return for a fair and honest review. This book is about a young woman who gets sent to a firm as a temporary PA to the CEO but is just so much more than that! Both Darien and Victoria are wonderful characters that you will warm to as you read along. The prologue led me to believe that it would be more on the gruesome side but I'm glad to say that, in this part at least, it doesn't get any worse than that. Seeing the relationship develop between Darien and Victoria was both exceedingly well written and also humorous. Her reaction to certain aspects of his life and how she deals with it were simply brilliant. The fact that she is not a shrinking violet, knows how to mend a leaking radiator - at least so it can limp along - and still manages to be smart and witty with silk stockings make Victoria an amazing character to read about. Her naivety in some situations simply reflects her status as Innocent.  I was disappointed when this story came to its close - not because it was lacking in any way or just stopped, but because I was enjoying the story and would have happily carried on reading. It leads you nicely into book 2 and will leave you wanting more so long as you don't mind 2 part books then I can highly recommend part 1.

Interesting story line. However, I feel as though I'm reading a children's book. I don't get the sugary way the story is written. I won't be reading the next story.

This is a wonderful and refreshing look into the world of vampires. Both of the main characters have strong personalities strong and play off each other well. A delightful read that you will not want to put down!

Different from most paranormal romances. But that difference added to the interest it evoked. Will definitely be looking for more reads from this author .

I thought it was a wonderful read, so very much like everyday life, rolling by, as every day life has done for most of us. News paper head line catches the drama in this days life, forgotten as soon as the paper is put aside. The silent romance blooming as the headline creeps back into the everyday life ( oh, I remember about that happening last week . ) but it's going on "that" side of town, not near here. It was so life like, and it can draw you into a world where you walk a line of normal and supernatural , it only takes one step... which direction will it lead....

This is a very interesting and a very good book. Love the characters and story line. Better than the teen vamps and the goth ones.

Reviewed by Michelle Randall for Readers' Favorite Growing up, first on a farm, then in a small town, Vicky Westernly moves to the big city for the education and job opportunities it will afford her. So far those jobs are not looking too promising, so when the temp agency sends her to Mr. Ritter's office, she has no idea what to expect. Darian Ritter isn't mean, just demanding, and he needs a personal assistant that can handle his hectic life and keep him together. When he first sees Vicky, he doesn't think she can do it, but as he talks to her, she surprises him and he gives her a chance, and she continues to surprise him. Just under the surface of what you see is the reality; Darian Ritter is in fact a very powerful vampire, and things are afoot in town. Kindling Flames: Gathering Tinder follows Darian and Vicky as she learns his secret and deals with it, learns about supernaturals in the world and continues to impress Darian with her ability to keep him on task and organized. Author Julie Wetzel gives the reader a vampire novel that breaks the mold of vampire novels. Author Julie Wetzel combines the business world, an amazingly powerful vampire, in fact so powerful that the whole community is in awe of him, and a naive and innocent girl together into this worthy story that keeps you guessing until the last page, when you scream because you want more. Kindling Flames: Gathering Tinder is billed as the first book in The Ancient Fire series, and as the story begins we are treated to another house burning uncontrollably with dead bodies in the yard. Something is going on, and it is not of this world. This is a really great beginning series book. You have a number of story lines aside from the main storyline running through the novel, and there is no sex or violence in the book at all. It might be implied that it happened, but no details. Great for all readers.

I found out about this book through BookBub. It was free but it was incomplete, so I guess you could call it a really long sample.....which kinda pissed me off. When the free copy ends you are left not knowing if the heroine lives or dies from her injuries. I also thought it was a cliffhanger as other reviewers have said. Then I bought the 3 volume set and found the place where book 1 left off and sure enough, there were another 20-30 pages to end book 1 and tie up plot points. So....I recommend getting a free sample from B&N of the omnibus collection books 1-3 and if you like it buy it. I did and you can read my review of them there.

4.5 Stars! This was an interesting novel! It was quite simple and captivating. It was hard to put down. The characters were great and likeable especially Sue and Vicky. The plot was intriguing and I liked how this novel wasn't too predictable. Even though it ended with a cliffhanger, this was still a great novel. I would definitely recommended this for fans of fantasy and paranormal genres.

Love the world Julie weaves her characters in. The story draws you in, made me feel like these were everyday people. Now I will have to read the next book to find out what happens to Victoria.

Good story except that it doesn't end. Prefer to know before I order if it is a stand alone book. Had it not ended in a cliff-hanger I would have rated it higher

This first book sets the scene for an awesome saga, as well as leaving me with a rather desperate need for the next book, but I am sorry to say not desperate enough to pay $4.99. The whole 'who is blowing up buildings and shredding werewolfs' has not pulled me in enough to want to know why, but there is a lot of romantic angst, which is obviously the main reason why I want to read on to see when Darien is eventually going to make a move, if ever. I did like this story very much though. It was well written.
