Chapter One
Kyle will just sit and smile. He loves living in his compost pile.
Every day is something new: good things yellow, maybe blue, maybe orange, or maybe red.
Here's the food ... thrown on his head!
Today is brown banana peel. Hungry Kyle starts to squeal.
What comes next? He can't foresee. In come squash and pears and leaves.
Yummy! Yummy! Eat it up! What a treat-a paper cup!
Here's a pumpkin and its seeds. Kyle knows it's Halloween!
Chomp and swallow, more to chew. What is this? It's something new.
It tastes so good. What could it be? His friends all say it's broccoli.
More good food he's yet to find-spinach and a melon rind.
Paper shreds and coffee grounds. It sure tastes better than it sounds.
Now Kyle really wants a steak, a drink of milk, a piece of cake.
I don't know. What do you think? It sure would make his pile stink.
What doesn't Kyle like, you ask? Plastic, aluminum, and glass.
They poke him, cut him, take up space. Consider those recyclable waste.
Kyle's tummy starts to ache. He surely needs to take a break.
Kyle starts to close his eyes. Holy Cow! A big surprise!
Veggies of all colors come. Keep on eating, eating-Yum!
More food in, then more food out. Wait, what's that process all about?
It might be gross, I have to say. But I can't help it; it's my way.
Now my job's to sit and rest and you can use what I digest.
How do you use this compost now? You spread it all around the ground on gardens and planters with your hoe. Kyle knows it helps them grow.
