My Disclaimer: I was provided a complimentary copy of the preview of this book. I am voluntarily providing an honest review in which all opinions are fully my own. I am not being compensated in any way. ~ Judi E. Easley for Blue Cat Review My Review: ✰✰✰✰⭒ Just released this week! I read just the preview of the first few chapters, but the whole novel was released this week. Kinley Chandler is a dying Air Force veteran in a VA hospital. She was injured in an ambush in Afghanistan. She tries to kill herself and falls through a portal to a stone ring in 14th century Scotland. She is totally healed in the process as well as given the power to call fire to fight the undead Romans. Lachlan, Laird of the clan McDonnel, is an immortal who the Romans previously slaughtered along with all his people. The druids cast a spell and brought them back as immortals because they were protecting the druids at the time. Lachlan has a bodyguard named Tharaen who is saved later in the book by Kinley. During that incident both Tharaen and Lachlan seen her injured form and finally believe her whole story about the future and her experience. The pace is fast. The characters are interesting and individuals. The story line is interesting and sets things up really well for the series to follow. The men are big and strong, but not brutes. The women are smart and sexy. The sex is hot! The ending has lots of potential for more to follow but is not a cliffhanger. This has the potential to be a really interesting series with some interesting characters. The writing is quite good and kept me engaged. Now I need to get the whole first book to read to see where Lachlan and Kinley go from here! Get your copy and find out for yourself. Recommended.

ROMANCE IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS “Lachlan” is Book 1 in Hazel Hunter’s Immortal Highlander: A Scottish Time Travel Series. All I can say is WOW!! I literally couldn’t put it down once I started reading. Lachlan is Laird of the McDonnel Clan. While the Clan is in the middle of a battle, Kinley shows up unexpectedly from the future. Considering Kinley is a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, she is very familiar with war and immediately goes into combat mode. When Kinley and Lachlan get together fireworks start flying, especially since she saves him. You will get lost in the many plot twists that will keep you turning the pages. If you love books about time travel and hot Scottish men, what are you waiting for buy it now. If you are not sure this book is for you, give it a try. Trust me, you will LOVE it!

Kinley Chandler is a wounded war veteran languishing in a hospital bed in San Diego fighting to find the will to live. She was in an explosion that embedded shrapnel in her stomache, took her leg and scarred her both physically and mentally. As an excercise in healing her therapist takes her on a car ride to a national park hoping to jump start the fight within her, but only makes Kinley more interested in ending her life. When the therapist steps away to get her phone, Kinley puts the wheels in motion to launch herself down a hillside to hopefully end her life. Instead, she lands in 14th century Scotland in the middle of a fight between some highlanders and Roman soldiers. Her body is whole again and although she’s confused, she jumps in and saves a highlanders life creating an immediate bond between the two of them. When I read this synopsis I was intrigued by Kinley, a female wounded warrior, wondering how her skills were going to help her out in medieval Scotland. Once she had come to grips with her situation we did see those skills in play. She had been a search and rescue coordinator, so her strategies in finding the Romans who were terrorizing the inhabitants of Skye were ahead of this time. Even better was Lachlan’s acceptance of who she had been and that he took those skills for granted. I was ok with Lachlan’s immortality (yep) but what was hard for me to overlook was that the Roman soldiers were actually Roman vampires. Just to make it really clear, the good vs evil fight was between Immortal Scottish warriors and Roman soldier vampires. There was a lot going on in this novel! The talent was apparent in the writing because, well, I stuck with it to the end. I just wish she hadn’t thrown the story at the wall to see what stuck. It would’ve been enough for me to have Kinley get thrown back in time her body whole, found a warrior who see’s her worth, comes to love her- maybe throw in a couple of fighting scenes to show off everyone’s skills and then have our happily ever after. The vampire scenes were pretty gross and vivid, so I skimmed and skipped those parts. I really just wanted to get back to what I considered the meat and potatoes, Kinley and Lachlan. However, I can see why other readers gave this novel high reviews. Kinley was an original! The female vet angle was really appealing and in the end her character is why I read this book all the way to the end. If this plot intrigues you, you’ll be happy to know that there are a LOT of these Immortal Highlander novels. Every highlander apparently has a woman come tumbling through from our world. Lucky them! I haven’t decided yet if I am going to give the second book a chance. The writing was good, but oh those Roman vampires…

Hazel Hunter had me hooked and in tears from the time I read the preview to see if I wanted to buy the book. She brought to life how Kinley felt about her condition and life in the present. I could just feel the pain and suffering and wanting to be able to have the things that she knew she couldn't. Kinley was just a shell of herself in the modern world just waiting to die from the injuries she suffered in an attack on her final mission in the Air Force. When her psychiatrist takes her on an outing she figures its the time to end it all not knowing it would change her life forever. She falls through time to medieval Scotland to meet the love of her life and not want to go back to the future. Lachlan and Kinley come together along with his clan of immortal warriors to fight the undead Legion of Roman soldiers. Along the way a spy is revealed, Kinley becomes one of the clan, and combine forces with druids to fight their enemy. Secrets are revealed and love flourishes between Lachlan and Kinley. When Kinley runs away and is captured by the undead it triggers her PTSD and Lachlan helps her through it all. Kinley has made friends with the clan but one member wants her out. The druids know a secret about what's to come from their fight with the undead and saving a life. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the Immortal Highland series and the corresponding books that come along.
