Lady Runaway by Ginger Hanson

Running away from possible charges of theft, assault, and breach of promise, Lady Riana Travistock heads for London where she is knifed in a street brawl when she helps a man attacked by footpads. Luckily for Lady Riana, the victim of the attack is army surgeon Captain Devlin Carrington.

Dev takes injured woman home to tend her injury. When Dev cuts off her blood-soaked chemise to suture the wound, a fortune in jewels spill onto the blood soaked sheet. Has he saved a lovely jewel thief only to watch her hang?

Weaving together a tale of half truths, Riana claims the jewels as her own. Worried about the consequences of their situation–she is after all, a lady, and he is the son of a baron–she tells Dev she ran away from her abusive husband who is a jewel merchant. Although captivated by his lovely patient, Dev investigates her story.

Set in 1811 England, Lady Runaway chronicles the tale of two people who go against society's conventions to grab the lives they want.

Ms. Hanson brings us another wonderful, original romantic tale full of action, adventure, and passion. Switching gears from her previous 2 novels set in the post-Civil War South, "Tennessee Waltz" and "Ransom's Bride", Ms. Hanson enters the world of Regency England, racing into the genre with enough skill rival the Four-in-Hand club! Rich in historical detail, a fast-paced plot, and sparkling dialogue, "Lady Runaway" comes to life with wonderful characters that you want to root for. When Lady Rianon flees to London to avoid the evil Sir Hector, she unwittingly embroils herself with a bawdy house madam. In a daring escape, she is overcome by footpads and stabbed. Enter the hero, Capt Devlin Carrington, an army surgeon who saves her life, but also finds the fortune in jewels she has hidden in her chemise (love the cover!!). Is she an innocent maiden or a jewel thief?? And so Ms. Hanson takes the reader on a delightful romp as our two characters try to sort out their feelings, keep their secrets, and, in the end, fall in love. It's a great read - don't miss it!!! I understand from Ms. Hanson's website:, that she will be releasing her next novel, contemporary romance "Feather's Last Dance", in May 2010. Can't wait to see what she comes up with next!!
