Only 10 demigods are chosen by the Sun for the sunbearer trials. The winner will carry the light to all the temples; the loser will be sacrificed. Teo is the trans child of the goddess of birds, and he has never worried about the trials. This year, however, Sun picks Xio, the son of the bad luck god, and him. They must compete in five mysterious trials against opponents more powerful and stronger than they are. Teo is willing to give it all for fame, glory, and survival.
