Overview

Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert

Fall has come, the wind is gusting, and Leaf Man is on the move. Is he drifting east, over the marsh and ducks and geese? Or is he heading west, above the orchards, prairie meadows, and spotted cows? No one's quite sure, but this much is certain: A Leaf Man's got to go where the wind blows.

With illustrations made from actual fall leaves and die-cut pages on every spread that reveal gorgeous landscape vistas, here is a playful, whimsical, and evocative book that celebrates the natural world and the rich imaginative life of children.

Includes an author's note and leaf-identifying labels.

I never thought leaves could be so appealing! The leaf images really help to capture the authors story which is one about the leaves blowing through a farm and along the way learning about the animals who live there. Also, the book shows the different directions the leaves travel when blown in the wind. This is a wonderful book to read to students who are learning about fall and their colors. It is also a fun way to show your children or students what creativity can do and what you can use to express your creativity through the art of nature.

I teach 3rd and 4th grade Special Education students. My students loved the book. They were able to create their own Leaf Child and write an adventure. They collected the leaves and were thrilled to give their Leaf Child life in their imagination.

This is a wonderful book to read to primary students who are learning about fall, fall colors, and different types of leaves. It also helps when identifying shapes.

There is a site if you search to find a worksheet to make your own leaf man or whatever character you want.

This is a fantastic book. It is fun, colorful, and educational. It is a wonderful excuse for the reader to play outdoors in the leaves and also to learn about them. The pictures are beautiful and the pages are all unique. I love how Lois Ehlert made different animals out of the leaves. It is easy to understand and can be read to almost every age group. I would absolutely recommend this book to any child.

I am an elementary school librarian and purchased this book to use as part of a fall unit with Kindergarten and first grade students and I can't tell who loves it more-the students or me! This is a fun story to read and easily ties in to other fall activities. Another great book by Ehlert!

This book is a delight to read and the artwork is very creative and colorful. My 7 year old loved finding the shapes and designs within the leaf prints. This book has well written text as well. Fun to read to or with your child(ren).

This is a delightful autumn story that elementary children and adults will love if they cherish the season of autumn as much as I do. The colors are very vivid and the page layout and design is very creative. Each page is cut and sized differently. I cannot wait to share this story with my students this school year!
