In a world were science was increasingly trying to explain a reality without God, thinkers started to ask more questions. Some wondered why a good God would allow evil. In response, Leibniz set out to defend God. His theories on monads and monadology behind reality were wild, but Spinoza's ideas even more so. Spinoza believed that God and free will were illusions. This was a door into an age of Enlightenment.
