Overview

Patriarch, Leo Berry, Sr. dies leaving a journal to the grandson who shares his name. As "Little Leo" begins reading his Papa's words, it becomes apparent the book contains secrets never disclosed to the rest of the large family.

Now the young prosecutor has been entrusted with not only seeking redemption for his grandfather's covert actions, but also administering the deceased man's substantial estate.

At the same time, Leo is assigned a homicide case containing its own mysteries. Perhaps his recently departed grandfather could even be connected to the potential dangers buried within.

I always enjoy being able to recognize the landmarks in novels set in familiar places. This novel made me feel like I knew the characters. The story was compelling and I look forward to reading the next one.

This book weaves a compelling story of a grandson seeking redemption for his deceased grandfather's mistakes. It offers mystery, suspense and family drama to the tale leading the reader on a pleasing roller coaster ride. Really a solid book and fun read from a first-time author. Hope he writes another.

As someone in the criminal justice field myself, I had high hopes for this book, because it was penned by a long-time prosecutor. Mr. Scarbary writes well, and it's obvious a lot of work went into it, but it just didn't ring true, to me. Too predictable, like a television "procedural." There wasn't really any reason to finish the book, but I did, even knowing how things would go.I hope he will write another one - but will keep things a bit more true-to-life next time!

Bottom line…I loved this book. I was hooked from the Prologue. The characters are nicely developed with authentic personalities. This author writes in such detail and description that one can easily and vividly visualize scenes throughout the book. The chapters transition flawlessly. Included therein are drama, mystery and humor. The core family has a strong and loving relationship, which is so refreshing. It’s difficult to believe Leo’s Redemption is Mr. Scarbary’s first novel and I certainly hope it won’t be his last. This is a great book and leaves the reader feeling good. I would not hesitate to recommend Leo’s Redemption to everyone who loves the art of creative writing. I would urge all who read this book and loved it like I did to write a review on B&N. That effort gives new authors confidence as well as encourages future book sales; they greatly and sincerely appreciate both.
