Overview

Katherine Barclift had it all: the perfect job, the perfect car, and what she thought was the perfect marriage. But when her entire world collapses in one stomach-churning instant, she hits the road and keeps driving until that so-called “perfect life” is just a dot in her rearview mirror.

A chance encounter leads her to make a pit stop in Boot Creek, a drowsy little North Carolina town where she can call herself Katy, soak up the peace and quiet…and drink in the bluer-than-blue eyes of Derek Hansen, a local doctor still wrestling with his own painful past. Both Katy and Derek are wary about giving romance another shot, but they can’t deny the intense attraction between them. And if being in Boot Creek has taught them anything, it’s to take life as it comes and never pass up a chance at true love…no matter how wounded your heart may be.

Life After Perfect is a new romance by author Nancy Naigle. It is set in the town of Boot Creek, North Carolina. It is a small town tale filled with interesting people that you would want to know and places you would enjoy visiting. Life After Perfect begins with stories of sadness...of lives that seemed perfect on the surface and perfect lives that were stolen by death. Of course nothing in life really perfect but sometimes imperfect people find each other and they are perfect together. Derek, an oncologist, had the perfect life until his wife died from cancer. And Katherine, a successful project manager, had the perfect life...but things and success don't always make perfect as she soon discovers. Life After Perfect brings together Derek and Katherine. Can they find happiness after perfect? Is he ready to let the past go? Can she? Newly separated from her cheating husband, should Katherine be keeping that a secret from Derek? Great romance. Had a hard time putting it down once I got into it! It looks like there are lots of stories to be told in Boot Creek! Hoping this will be a new series! Just released! If you are looking for a great romance be sure to pick up a copy of Life After Perfect!

I loved everything about Life After Perfect! I really liked how Katherine handled her situation, and how things between her and Derek happened. It was unexpected for them both, but they just went along with it and let it play out. They made a wonderful pair. It was interesting to see how my opinion of Ron changed throughout the book as well. He had me fooled. Boot Creek was the perfect small town, with the perfect group of residents. Characters like Derek, Naomi, and Angie are the most loyal and friendly people that everyone would love to have in their circle of friends. I'd say this is the perfect book to unwind with after a long day. Just kick back, relax, and settle into Boot Creek.

Life After Perfect is about a woman named Katherine Barclift, who is a project manager for a bank and is married to a man named Ron Barclift for ten years. Together since college, one day Katherine learns Ron has been unfaithful, and as a result she leaves town to try and clear her mind to find a solution to her now unsuccessful marriage. As she’s driving, she stops to fill up her car in Boot Creek, North Carolina, and meets a doctor named Derek Hansen. Derek’s wife died of cancer, and he’s grieving and trying to move forward; he feels guilty that he was unable to save her, despite trying different medical trials to help her. Derek is also unsure if he has the right to try and find a new companion after her passing. Katherine changes her name to Katy, a nickname her husband thought was silly and made her stop using it. Though she has feelings for Derek, he’s unsure at times how to express his feelings for Katy without sounding silly. She’s is the first woman he’s pursued since Laney, but both of them care for one another, though they’re very hesitant to act upon their feelings. Moving forward, Katy makes new friends while she’s in Boot Creek, and eventually divorces Ron. Soon, both she and Derek realize that they both care for one another and should not let their past stop them from being together. Life After Perfect demonstrates that an individual can be emotionally and mentally involved with someone for a very long time, but that doesn’t result in a successful relationship. At the same time, the book demonstrates how individuals have to be strong to move on after infidelity, regardless of if others believe they should stay. This novel is perfect for anyone who enjoys reading romance novels, especially ones that show how being involved in a failed relationship doesn’t mean the individual should stop seeking romance. Many readers will be able to sympathize with both Katy and Derek and hope they won’t make a decision based on their negative relationship backgrounds. In Life After Perfect, Nancy Naigle shows how difficult love can be, but that shouldn’t mean individuals should stop caring and loving for another person. Additionally, she shows that when illnesses are present, such as cancer, it shouldn’t cause the loved ones around you to blame themselves and give up hope in finding a cure. This is Nancy's best work yet! I was sad for it to end and am hoping for book 2! Life After Perfect is beautifully written. Katy is strong, and I loved that about her. The supporting characters were believable and I want to know more about them. Thanks, Nancy. When can we expect book 2????

Loved It! This was a great book by Nancy Naigle. I am a big fan of Nancy’s and this book was just as good as her other books. Katherine had the perfect job, car, and marriage, and then her world collapses. She doesn’t know what to do so she takes off on a road trip. She ends up in a small town called Boot Creek, NC; while there she meets the sexy doctor Derek, who has a painful past of his own. This is such a sweet story about a love lost and finding new love. This book is well written with a wonderful story and characters. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Awesome read! Jam packed with great characters and various storylines. It was a hell of a week for Katherine Barclift. Her good friend's husband dies, another friend decides to divorce her cheating husband, and then she is faced with her own husbands infidelity. When her seemingly perfect world begins to crumble she decides to just get away from it all. When she lands in Boot Creek, NC she has no idea the impact the little town and it's residents will have on her. This is a wonderfully written story, and if you love small town romances this is an absolute must read. I highly recommend it.

Life After Perfect, Nancy Naigle  Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews  Genre:  Romance Poor Katherine, thinks all is bright and fluffy in her life until...it’s not. It all falls apart and she’s shocked. She finds out that the perfect life she’s been living is a lie. She’s been working hard, has a great job and a lovely home. She’d like children but Ron wants to wait – he likes their life and says they’ve plenty of time yet.  Then it all crashes down, just when things have gone wrong too for her friends, one had been widowed, and another finds out her husband has been cheating. Katherine just can’t deal with it all, and gets in the car and just drives.  She ends up in a little town, where its Blackberry Festival day and it seems the whole town is out. She’s decided to look at what she wants from life for her, realising that Ron has dictated everything so far, the car she drives, the posh house and decor, even her name. She was happy as Katy, but he said Katherine sounded better – now she’s claiming herself back and is Katy again. Then at the festival she bumps into Derek, and there’s something between them that’s hard to ignore.  Through events back with Ron and developments from it she stays in the village, and they take her to their heart. Derek is pleased, he’s not felt this way for a very long time. After his wife died from cancer he’s just been kind of drifting, working all hours just to hold back from thinking of the past. Then Katy springs in his life and somehow he knows she’s important. He’s a really lovely man and perfect for Katy. He wants her, but wants what’s right for her too and Ron was never interested in that – Ron came first, last and everywhere in between. It’s only now that Katy can see that. There are some great characters here, and among the sadness of one of them dying from cancer, is some really heart-breaking moments, issues raised that are relevant to many people and yet a thread of humour runs through, stopping it from being too dark and gloomy.  I loved the connection between Derek and Katy, though I’d have felt it more genuine if the story had covered a longer timespan. It’s hard to feel that Katy has found a genuine love, when its so shortly after she thought her life was perfect. In a way its a bit like thinking she was in love with Ron til she met Derek and then recognised the real face of love, but I found it hard to accept that she could leave her feelings behind so quickly. When things went wrong for a while it was very brief and for me I like that part to be longer, to let the drama play out and for me to really feel upset for the couple. Here though it was almost over before it began, and that lost the impact of it for me. God crept in a bit too – something I’m always cautious of, but it wasn’t in a preaching way and fitted the characters perfectly, given that they were strong believers in God’s Plan.  I’m not anti god, anti religion, but don’t want to have it thrust down my throat when I'm reading. At the first mention I was a bit “ is this going to become one of those...” but it didn’t and when God was brought in it fitted the story as exactly how those characters would react. That added to the feeling they were genuine, and I really enjoyed living a couple of weeks with them (albeit over a few hours!!) A couple of things stuck with me from the humour, Katy selling her Merc and Ron’s reaction to that,  and the lipstick incidents in the office and on the car – perfect.  Stars: Four, a really fun feel good romance.  ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers

Life After Perfect by Nancy Naigle made me want to move to small town Boot Creek and eat blackberries! Boot Creek is where Katy ends up after the life she thought was perfect suddenly wasn't and she needed space.  Boot Creek is where Derek has come back to after suffering his own devastating loss.  Neither were looking for anything, but in Boot Creek they find each other. Katy is independent, strong and stands up for herself.  She is a very capable woman who is determined to move on from perfect.  I felt that there was a strong sense of realism in how she dealt with her situation.  I also got the strong feeling that she grew so much, opened her eyes to life around her, and gained a lot of perspective as Life After Perfect progressed.  Derek has been stuck in his own past, struggling to find meaning and move on.  A chance meeting with Katy sets off sparks neither expected, and in small town Boot Creek it's easy to see a lot of each other.  I felt like they had a connection that grew steadily and the romance between them rapidly picked up speed through Life After Perfect.  It did feel like the romance was rather quick after what Katy had been through, but I liked both of these characters - even if  I felt like Katy still expected a bit of perfect, and she was keeping a big something about herself from Derek. I wasn't sure how this story would end...would Katy go back to 'perfect' or move on to what and who she really wanted? Nancy drew me in quickly and kept me engrossed in Katy and Derek's story.  The pace is perfect and I was never bored.  I really enjoyed the secondary character who each had something to add to Life After Perfect. I'd recommend Life After Perfect to romance readers who especially like small towns and second chance romances!

Katherine Barclift thought she had the perfect life: great husband, job, house, and car. Then, one day she found her perfect life wasn’t real. When she found out her husband wasn’t faithful, she hopped in her car and started driving. When she stops at a gas station in Boot Creek, North Carolina she meets Derek, a local doctor with a painful history. Can Katherine and Derek leave the past behind and forge a new life together? This is a great beginning to a wonderful series. I adore all of the characters and feel that Boot Creek is an ideal setting for anyone who believes in hope and love. I liked how Katy could start fresh and open her heart so quickly. Lastly, I feel the poignant drama was enhanced by the author’s honest opinion on death and God.
