Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) galvanized the antislavery movement in the United States. In 1889, with Harriet’s cooperation, her son Charles compiled this record of her education, literary influences, religious background, her travels, as well as how the Fugitive Slave Law inspired her famous novel, and her tireless work for abolition.
