Lightning & Thunder
This is a memoir of a wonderful miracle marriage of 45 years. She was my Cinderella. I had an exciting career that she supported at all times. I was involved with many interesting things during my 39 year career, some of which is unbelievable. We had miracle after miracle occur throughout those years. It was love at first sight when I saw her when I was 12 years old. I did not know her name and I could only guess where she was from. We were both visiting Disneyland in California. I did not meet her again until we were 26 years old when we were both outside watching a thunderstorm near midnight. We got married and 45 years later when she took her last breath, lightning hit the hospital knocking out the commercial and backup generator power shaking the whole hospital like an earthquake. It took 3 minutes to restore emergency power to the critical areas of the hospital. In this book I spend too much time talking about myself, but she is no longer here to tell her side of the story.
There were unbelievable experiences and miracles you would not believe, but are 100% true. We were told it would take at least 3 years to adopt. A few weeks after applying we had a 3 week old boy. We were nearly locked in the French Louvre and Norte Dame Catherdral balcony with the gargoles. We got the wild idea to go to the Grand Canyon without campground reservations made a year in advance. No problem. We went on to Sequoia National Park with no reservations, no problem. At 4AM I thought a dog was sniffing at the tent so I swatted his nose. When we got up everyone downhill from us was putting their camp back together from a bear that ran through the campground getting away. We thought our son had a bad birthday too close to Christmas at December 21st. Our second quick adoption a few years later brought us a second new born that also had brown hair and blue eyes with a birthday on December 24th.
Carolyn was 5'0", 107 pounds, blue eyed, size 5 1/2 shoes...my Cinderella.

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The Author spent over 39 years with the United States Air Force in the USA, Asia, and Europe. He had some part in the development of most of the new weapons system in development between 1979 and 1989. Some of those systems are just now being delivered. He taught classes in weapons system research and development and logistics management as a guest lecturer and substitute professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology and various conference rooms around the USA. Over 3000 current and future managers attended his class on R&D scheduling. He served on many brain storming teams to come up with unique solutions to military problems from shooting down space objects to moving “dud” bombs off an active runway.

When think groups got stalled, I was asked to step in. Some of these groups were headed by general officers and the attendees were all full colonels and GS-15’s or SES’s. I would get a few hours to review the problem they had spent weeks locked in some conference room looking for a solution. In less than 24 hours I had studied the issue and developed some briefing charts on the issue and my recommendation. The think group always took my suggestion and went back to their regular jobs in no more than 2 days.

He is now retired from both active duty and civil service. He is still active in writing, the local amateur radio club, traveling and writing books.

“I don’t think I could ever find anyone like Carolyn and don’t know if it is worth even trying for female companionship again.
