About the Author

George Gordon Byron, commonly known as Lord Byron, was a leading poet of the Romantic movement. Considered by many to be the first modern 'celebrity', his life of scandal and excess and his shocking, innovative poetry inspired works by Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, Giuseppe Verdi and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His lengthy narrative poems, Don Juan and Childe Harold's Pilgrimage were amongst the most popular poems of the day. To this day, they still continue to split opinion and inspire disbelief and praise.
