In 1671, Sir Henry Morgan, last of the British buccaneers, assembled more than 1,000 cutthroats and sacked the Spanish City of Panama. Knowing that Morgan was coming, the Spanish loaded the ancient galleon Nuestra Señora de la Trinidad with an incredible quantity of silver and gold bullion together with a large number of people, then hid her behind the Island of Taboga in the Gulf of Panama. The pirates took the city in short order and nearly captured the ship, but the Trinidad slipped away...
