This book is amazing it is so sweet and it touched my heart. That has only happened a few times to me because for that to happen, the book has to be fantastic. Chantele Sedwick has written one of the best books I have read and honestly Love, Lucas has some of those romantic yet heartbreaking moments in this juvenile literature book. Oakley Nelson’s older brother who was her best friend and the only person to really know Oakley died of cancer. Now she has to figure out how to live her life again. She is fighting a war with sadness and her mom decides that they should go live with her sister, Oakley's aunt so Oakley agrees to it. Then, she, Oakley meets a boy the changes her life and Oakley begins to become happy after the tragic incident. Her mom gives Oakley a book filled with letters from her brother and Oakley sees how much he loved and cared for her. Those readers who love reading romantic and teen literature should read this awesome book.

Honestly loved this book! You really get to understand Oakley's feelings throughout the book, and get to see how she tries to overcome her depression over her brother's loss. Really recommend it to anyone who's looking for a nice story to read with some romance involved.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Love, Lucas. It was definitely a lot about the main character, Oakley, figuring out who she was becoming and her life, along with some sweet romance. I liked that there was so much more going on in this story than the romance and that there were a few painful twists as well that made this story differ from others. I also loved the letters from Lucas, Oakley's brother who died from cancer. The characters were messy and imperfect, but felt genuine and I especially loved Oakley and Carson. The story pretty much pulled me in from the beginning. I felt conflicted right along Oakley when she starts developing romantic feelings for Carson when she's not going to be in California very long, while also feeling guilty because her brother has just died and she shouldn't be happy or get to live her life. Oakley and her family are so devastated and definitely didn't come out of losing Lucas unscathed. There were things to be worked out and pieces to be picked up and it took some time for that to happen. Lucas's letters were a humorous, sweet, and happy side to the story and how they affected Oakley. And then Carson really helps Oakley let go a little and finally confide in someone about how she feels. If you enjoy contemporary YA with plenty of heartbreaking situations, but alongside them lots of hope and the possibility of love, then definitely give Love, Lucas a try. It was sweet, heartfelt, romantic, with friendship and family to carry the characters through their difficulties. I'm looking forward to seeing what Sedgwick writes next! Content: Clean Source: From the author/publisher through Edelweiss, which did not affect my review in any way.

The story starts out with a funeral and I could feel the pain and emotion right from the first chapter. I was immediately drawn in and emotionally invested. Oakley's brother (and best friend), Lucas, passes away from cancer and it's hard for her to deal with life--her parent's arguing, her grief, and her will to go on. She and her mom go to California to live with her aunt for a little while, to have a change of pace and try to heal. I love that Oakley's mom gives her a journal when they get to California, full of letters that Lucas wrote to her. Each letter gives her a piece of advice or encouragement to move on and she would read at least one a day. Those are words for her to cherish and apply to her life and she does. I looked forward to what he would say next almost as much as she did. Carson is Aunt Jo's neighbor. He's a surfer and not much older than Oakley, but he's very kind, charming, and attractive--just what she needs. How could you not fall in love with a guy who is patient and down-to-earth? He's a great character and always pushes Oakley, just a little bit, to get out of her comfort zone. I loved the surfing aspect! There was a shocking twist near the end--I gasped out loud! I loved watching the growth and growing up that the characters go through to deal with it. This is a great coming-of-age story, full of emotion that had me smiling and crying. I just can't stop thinking about it. Content: no language; mild romance (kissing); mild violence (some blood, not graphic); no religious elements. Clean! *I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*
