What a read! You will not want to put this book down! I love Amy Lillard’s Amish fiction books. This is the first non-Amish I’ve read by her and I loved it too. Jessie McAllen is the town troublemaker. That’s what some in the town call her anyway. She did cause trouble once back in high school but that was a long time ago. When are people ever going to stop talking about her negatively? Chase Langston is supposed to be Jessie’s boyfriend. He’s always away on the Rodeo circuit and doesn’t really have time for her. She’s loved him since they were children…or, does she really? She’s always been known as Chase’s girl. Chase’s older brother sheriff Seth Langston has loved Jessie for a long time but, out of respect for his brother, wouldn’t let on. Read this story of unrequited love, or is it? This is a story about overcoming your upbringing, loyalty, heartache, love and passion. You’ll love the characters and want to see more of them.

This book was so much fun to read! It is a great start to a new series that I can tell will be filled with wonderful characters. Loving a Lawman had a good set up for terrific romantic tension between the two main characters. Seth has loved Jessie for years, but she only had eyes for his brother (although why she kept pining after Chase with the way he treater her was a mystery to me!). What a painful premise to start out with for Seth! It really made me feel for him. What followed was a story that kept me turning the pages to see what happened next! I am looking forward to reading more books in the series. (This is a contemporary romance and does contain some mild language and a couple of intimate scenes.)

This was a nice western romance. The story kept me interested and I loved the characters. The Langston family is a great set of characters. I really like how Jessie is such a strong character. She has much to overcome and a love to get over. I received an ebook copy of this book from netgalley for a fair and honest opinion.

Loving A Lawman #1, A Cattle Creek Novel**** by Amy Lillard Sheriff Seth Langston has loved Jessie McAllen for years. But she is his brother, Chase's girl—isn't she? Chase rides the rodeo circuit and is gone much of the time, has a wandering-eye for the ladies and no plans to settle down anytime soon. Jessie longs to leave Cattle Creek and Chase far behind, and will once she has saved up enough money. Her life gets even more complicated than it already is when she shares a kiss with Seth and realizes he is the one her heart longs for. I felt bad for Jessie and all the struggles, tragedies and loss she has experienced in her young life. But she has a stubborn streak that wouldn't let her give up. I really liked Seth, he is a down-to-earth kind of guy and tries to do the right thing. Loving A Lawman has a good story-line with some twists and turns, unexpected developments, tragedies and love. There are a couple “bedroom” scenes that I skipped over and the cursing made this hard for me to read and enjoy (3 ½ stars). ~I received an e-book copy of this book from the author via NetGalley, this is my honest review~

Love, love LOVE this book! One of the best reads of 2016! My first impression as I read the first few chapters of the story: When I first read the synopsis, I was really interested in reading the book. I thought Chase considered Jessie to be his girl, but I didn’t think they had a past. Chase claimed Jessie as his when they were in school and they had a legitimate off and on again relationship. Chase has gone through, and still going through, countless women while still considering Jessie his. And the whole town, including his brothers and Seth (who is in love with Jessie), believes Jessie is Chase’s and no one will pursue her. Here is where my issue with the book lies, Chase cares nothing for Jessie and shows that by having endless flings and one-night stands with random girls on and off the rodeo circuit and his family and the town thinks it’s okay for him to do this and still claim Jessie as his, even though she’s technically not. I’m sorry, this is inexcusable for me. So Jessie is supposed to wait around for Chase until HE decides he’s ready to settle down. I don’t effing think so. And the worst part is that Jessie is in love with Chase despite all of his carousing and treating her like sh*t. Chase’s family is fine with her being treated that way. It makes me sick. After I read the story: I’m glad I stuck with the story. What I perceived in the beginning was not completely as it seemed. Yes, Chase’s family thought of Jessie as his, despite Chase’s promiscuous ways (which I still had an issue with). But what developed was a multi-faceted story filled with hopeful heartaches and bittersweet blessings. I had issues with the book but at the same time, I absolutely loved the story. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in less than a day! Jessie is a tough woman who’s had to overcome a lot, including the label of town outcast. Seth has loved Jessie for years, but constantly fights his desires because of his brother’s “claim” on Jessie. Their journey was a difficult one, but no less beautiful. I probably sound like a crazy person, but I hated and love the book at the same time. And if a story can evoke this much emotion, it is definitely one that needs to be read! This was my first book by Amy Lillard and although the review was a messy battlefield of emotions, LOVING A LAWMAN is a must-read! ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

This is the first book in the Loving a Lawman series and oh my! A young lady is romantically stuck between two brothers, cowboys, and that alone makes for an interesting story. One being a Sheriff and the other an incorrigible ladies’ man a "Rodeo Star" which takes us into some interesting situations because while the Sheriff has always loved her, the Rodeo Star just assumed that she was his girl.. This girl just seemed to find trouble wherever she went and I was happy with the way it ended for her. I enjoyed this book and will definitely be watching for book #2 and reading more of Amy Lillard! I was gifted a copy for review by the author through NetGalley.

Loving a Lawman by Amy Lillard is the first book in her new Cattle Creek series. I have not read Amy Lillard, and after reading this fun small town romance, it will not be my last. I do enjoy these small town romances, and this was a bit different twist. Seth Langston, our hero, is the sheriff in Cattle Creek, Texas. Seth has had a crush for a few years on Jesse McAllen., but he cannot act on his feelings, as Jesse dates his brother, Chase. The story begins when Seth is called to the scene of Chase’s truck being demolished. Everyone seems to believe that Jesse did it, since Chase was fooling around with another girl. Seth brought Jesse to jail, knowing she was innocent, only because she confessed. Afterall, everyone thought it was her anyway. With Chase being a notorious ladies man, constantly disappointing or angering Jesse, Seth decides he will make his move. Everyone in town loves Jesse, as she is the local girl who has lived there all her life. Jesse is disgusted, and decides she will leave town once she saves enough money. She can’t live anymore near Chase and watch his constant philandering. When Seth tries to talk to her, he kisses Jesse and to his surprise, she responds to his kiss. What follows is a slow build romance that will open Jesse’s eyes that she has been looking at the wrong Langston brother all this time. Seth is sweet, caring, a hardworker and he wants Jesse for himself. On a night of passion, Jesse becomes pregnant and Seth is determined to marry her. Jesse finds herself caring more and more about Seth, and finally begins to believe that maybe she can find happiness. A tragedy will occur that will send Jesse on the road to run away. Will Seth be able to stop her? Will he be able to prove that he truly loves her? This was a nice sweet romance, with some surprises along the way. Amy Lillard does a wonderful job keeping our interest throughout, and having us root hard for Seth and Jesse. I loved them together, and kept reading in hope they would find their true happiness. I look forward to the next book in this series, and more about the Langstons. If you love sweet small town romances, I suggest you give Loving a Lawman a try.
