This is an enjoyable story starting with Lauren's father dieing when she was 19, which leaves her to run their large cattle ranch and look after her two sisters, Haley, 14 and Alexis, 16. Her father's two best friends ask to meet with her and let her know that several years earlier, her father borrowed $100,000 from them for the ranch. They had also agreed that, if it had not been repaid, they were to run the ranch and look after the girls. Lauren was pretty upset about the loan but even more by the men expecting to take over the ranch. She was saved, in a sense, by the son of one of these men, Chase.  He offered to give Lauren the money and wanted them to get married. She agreed in order to keep the ranch and look after her family. Since Chase was going away to college and didn't plan on coming back there to settle, Lauren planned to repay the money and get an annulment. You will just have to read this story to find out her plan didn't work. I liked this story with the author's smooth writing style and twists and turns in the tale. The characters were well developed and very likable. Lauren had a lot to handle with the ranch and her sisters and was quite controlling. In fairness, she felt she had to be in order to keep everything running. I loved Chase.  He was a kind and considerate man, always willing to help everyone, especially Lauren. Of course, he has loved her half his life so very willing to make her life easier any way he can.

While the story was a bit far out I enjoyed it and Lauren and Chase were a match made in heaven... Enjoyed the relationship between the three sisters and admired what they had been able to do after losing both of their parents... The author built a good foundation for the two books to come... Taming Alex is the second book and it is available now... Holding Haley is not available for order yet... One small complaint - improve the proofreading...

I listened to this book on audible and it was the perfect book to keep me company while I cleaned house this weekend. The reader was male, which was an interesting change of pace for a romance story. The females have strong personalities and that often leads to conflict. The men also had strong personalities and in the lead male character that along with a lot of patience woven in gets him into position to get what he wants. It was an interesting story of love, loss, hardwork and perseverance that was entertaining and at times steamy! I'm intrigued to read the next book in the series to see where it takes us!

This book is very good. I enjoyed the story. A strong woman forced to step up and trying to shield her younger sisters from the realities of earning a living. This gives her no time for herself, but then an old friend returns to town with an agenda. While devious, his heart is ultimately in the right place. Can he romance her and help her out in acceptable ways while she pushes aside any idea of getting help or romance? Gotta read this one.

When Lauren's father died, she found out that he had borrowed money from two friends and that she might have to give up the family ranch. Chase came up with a plan to help her. They secretly married and he gave her the money to save the ranch. Lauren knew she would have to pay Chase back even though he said she didn't need to do so. Chase went away to college and seven years later he is back and wants Lauren to stay his wife. Lauren has worked her fingers to the bone to keep the ranch up and running and to pay Chase back. Now he is back and he still won't accept the money. He seems to want her in his life but how can she trust that he won't try to take over everything? Lauren has always taken everything upon her shoulders without any help, how can she give up some of that control?

I enjoyed this read, but editing missed some obvious bloopers.

This book wasn't bad, but there's a lot of room for improvement. I'm wondering if she only paid the copy edutor to do the first 75 pages because after that the editing was very poorly done and distracting. I think a beta reader would have even caught it. Also, I'm not a fan of the disjointed story beginning. You dont really know the actual main character until she's an adult. The back story would have been better added as a bonus short story. Also the sex caught me off guard. It started out sweet then got VERY graphic. Overall, a good start but I'd still consider it a work in progress.

It's too bad this book was written in advance knowing it would be a series, you can tell.

totally fell in love with Lauren and Chase... From the start, I felt Lauren's pain... I admired her taking on such a hard role, looking after her sisters and the ranch... Then Chase comes along and lends her a helping hand, but Laurens too proud to accept help... Their love story is beautifully written, can't wait to read more from Jill Sanders...

This was a cute sweet read it isn't one that you will remember for long it will not stay with you. There is nothing to set it off and keep in your mind. The author gives you great characters that you will like. I had a hard time believing some of it but it does go well with the story. I do not see this as every happening in real life. Lauren loses her mother in a terrible way and years later as she turns 18 she loses her father. She must stand up and take over along with taking care of her sisters who are underage she must raise them, run the ranch and find away to keep it and her family together. Finding out her father owed money was a shock even more of a shock was the plan Chase put into play as he left town. Lauren is a very independent woman, as well as headstrong. With Chase returning she will have to decide a few things and their secrets must come out. Chase has come home to stay he now wants to take up with Lauren where they left off. He must get her on the same page as he is. He does his best to show her how much he cares taking the money she saved to pay him back into fixing her place up. Which sets her off and leaves him doing some toe stepping to get his way. Roy Samuelson did a good job of narration making you feel the emotions of the characters. I did not think his female voices were the greatest but you have no trouble knowing who was speaking and how they felt. There is no background noise and if he took a break you could not tell. I would listen to more audio's from this narrator, he isn't my favorite but worth your time to give a listen to. The author takes you though the steps of these two overcoming their issues, she puts a little mystery into it but not enough for me to want to read again. I would like to know how the sister lives works out but not enough to buy either the book or the audio. It was a cute read that I enjoyed. I did chuckle a time or two but there was nothing that reached out and grabbed me throughout this read. Give the book a listen or read it and decide for yourself. I wasn't sorry I had read it just expected more from this author.
