About the Author

Since the release of her debut contemporary romance novel, Off Sides, in January 2013, Sawyer Bennett has released multiple books, many of which have appeared on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists.

A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real-life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to contemporary romance, she writes something for just about everyone.

Sawyer likes her Bloody Marys strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active daughter, as well as a full-time servant to her adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others and that a bad day can be cured with a great workout, cake, or even better, both.

Sawyer also writes general and women’s fiction under the pen name S. Bennett and sweet romance under the name Juliette Poe.

“How much longer do you think we have to stay?” I mutter out of the side of my mouth to Van while keeping a pleasant smile in place.

“Half hour?” he asks back.

“Done,” I agree as my eyes move over the crowd.

“I’m going to hit up the hors d’oeuvres,” Van grumbles to me. “It’s the only reason I came.”

He hates these things and moaned about it the entire time he was driving us here tonight. He’s my temporary roommate for now and seems pretty chill, but he can be kind of an a-hole at times.

My eyes move from Van’s retreating back to sweep the room, and that’s when I see her.

Going back to that statistical improbability about getting laid, I’ll clarify that only holds true if the woman is single, as I don’t mess with married ladies. I see no ring on her finger, which is the first place I look, then I take a moment to appreciate everything else I’m seeing.

She’s tall and lithe, walking gracefully my way, but she’s not looking directly at me. She has long, curly fiery-red hair, and her ice-blue eyes are looking a bit distressed.

I turn my head to look over my shoulder, but the only thing behind me is the Acrocanthosaurus. That dinosaur isn’t going anywhere, so I look back to her. When she’s three feet away, her gaze sweeps to me briefly and I get a polite smile.

Then to my surprise she walks up to the exhibit, which sits raised on a tiled dais, and pulls up the skirt of her black evening gown. It’s simple but form fitting with thin straps, exposing light freckles spread across her shoulders. They match the ones over her nose and forehead. I’m not normally a freckle dude, but her skin is like creamy porcelain and her facial features are damn near perfect. She’s the type of woman who doesn’t need makeup. Her face alone is the beauty, the freckles only enhancing it.

Yes, she pulls her skirt up to her knees, and without any hesitation steps up onto the tiled dais. She side-steps through some fake foliage that’s added to give an idea of the terrain that this dinosaur once roamed and stops in front of the back left leg. With her brows furrowed, she squats with her legs primly angled to the side and reaches a hand out, rubbing her index finger along one of the bones.

Very interesting.

She’s totally hot and so very interesting. I figure she’s supposed to be fondling the dino bones, or she’s a nut case and will be hauled out of here soon, but I’ll enjoy the view until then.

Before I can contemplate it further, though, she stands up and walks back through the foliage to the edge of the dais and looks directly at me. “Help a girl down?”

I take the hand she’s holding out to me as she pulls her dress up a bit in preparation to step off.

“Absolutely,” I say as I present my hand to her gallantly.

Her resulting smile is actually a little flirty as she quips, “My hero.”

One seriously high and spiked heel comes down onto the industrial carpet that runs through the building, followed by the other, and as soon as she’s stable, I contemplate letting her hand go. But as I said before, she’s totally hot, most likely single, and very interesting indeed.

“I’m Lucas Fournier. I’m here on behalf of the Cold Fury.”

Her hand squeezes mine as she inclines her head. “I actually know who you are, Mr. Fournier. I’m Stephanie Frazier.”

Still holding her fine-boned hand with the softest skin, I ask, “And you were molesting that dinosaur because . . . ?”

Stephanie’s laugh is bold and infectious as she tips her head back, making her flame-colored curls spill farther down her back. When she looks back to me with sparkling eyes, she says, “I thought I saw a nick.”

My eyes cut over to the skeleton and back to her in confusion. “Nick?”

“I’m the director of acquisitions,” she says, still holding on to my hand. “Well, I’ve recently been promoted to the director position due to some unfortunate scandal the previous director was embroiled in. But, whatever . . . Part of my job is to make sure all our specimens are in good shape and perfect order at all times after they’re put in place.”

Fascinating about her job, I guess, but more interested in something else. “What was the scandal?”

She steps in closer to me, looks around the room quickly, and whispers as she brings her eyes back. “A sex scandal.”

I feign shock as I whisper back, “You’re kidding.”

She shakes her head and smiles at me mischievously. “The rumor is he had a penchant for cross dressing as well as for sleeping with some of the other staff’s wives.”

Okay, that is sort of scandalous now that I think about it. And hilarious she just told me that. “You don’t think perhaps you shouldn’t be telling one of the benefactors about this, um, sex scandal, do you?”

Her cheeks turn pink, but she still looks sinfully playful as she smiles at me. “I suppose not . . . but I’m not really cut out for these types of events. Natural-born rebel and all.”

“Rebel?” I ask roguishly. “I’m liking the sound of this.”

“Well, I really shouldn’t have told you about the sex scandal,” she admits with a chagrined look as she removes her hand from mine. “You won’t repeat that, will you?”

“How about you tell me something scientific so I can legitimately say that’s what we talked about tonight if anyone asks.”

“Hmmmm,” she says as she looks up briefly, then her eyes go from playful to serious when they return. “Did you know that North Carolina is the only state where all four major gemstones—and that would be emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and diamonds—have been discovered?”

“I absolutely did not know that,” I say seriously, then I turn it playful again, because honestly, that’s where the most fun is. “Would you like to get out of here and go get a drink together?”

Stephanie blinks once in surprise, and then she appraises me. Her eyes are gorgeous, a light blue that looks like that sheen of blue you see deep inside of Arctic icebergs, and yet it doesn’t make her look icy. In fact, her eyes actually have a sizzling quality to them or maybe it’s just the hair the color of molten lava spilling all around that gives a warm effect.

“A drink?” she asks, not really to clarify, but more of a contemplation for herself to see if it’s something that would interest her.

“Sure,” I say with an easygoing shrug. “There’s a lot of great bars downtown.”

“Okay,” she says gamely. “A drink. Meaning one. I have to be at work super early tomorrow to make sure all of this party stuff is gone and this exhibit is show quality for when the doors open.”

“I have an early practice,” I tell her nonchalantly. “So I have to be in top shape tomorrow as well.”

“Then let me make some goodbyes and get my purse. Give me fifteen minutes.”

I watch her rear the entire time she walks away, knowing that even though she said one drink, this night isn’t going to be over early. Like I said . . . near statistical impossibility for me not to get laid.

When she’s out of sight, I pull out my phone and shoot a text to Max, Jules, and Van in case I don’t see them before Stephanie gets back.

This is book 8 in the series and another winner for Sawyer Bennett in my humble opinion. These books keep getting better and better. Each time I read a book I think there is no chance that he will become my favourite and yet Sawyer Bennett proves me wrong time and again. I believe that I may well be in love with the Fournier family. This is Lucas Fournier and Stephanie Frazier’s story and what a complicated story it is. Now that Lucas has joined his brother’s team the Carolina Cold Fury he is thrilled to be around his family. It is obvious that the Fournier family love and support each other , no matter what and this shines through in Lucas. When a one night stand with Stephanie becomes complicated Lucas turns to his brother for advice. Not surprisingly his feelings are complicated by the fact that he is immensely attracted to Stephanie, despite her being determined to avoid him. Lucas is determined to stand by her and do what is right and much to his shock, he finds himself “all in” whilst Stephanie struggles with building a relationship with Lucas. I did get frustrated with Stephanie as she was way more closed off that I felt Lucas deserved given the circumstances. Although a stand alone, I do feel you would get more enjoyment if you were to read the series in order as many of our favourite couples make an appearance in Lucas. This series is to me a family and I loved catching up on the previous couples and seeing what is happening in their lives.

I love sports romances, specifically hockey, and Sawyer Bennett's Cold Fury series never disappoints! Lucas is book 8 in the interconnected series and though it can be read as a stand alone, it would be best enjoyed if read in order since prior characters are mentioned or appear in the story. I thought Lucas and Stephanie's relationship was both realistic and refreshing. Most stories have the hero as the closed off and commitment phobic character, but this time around it was the heroine. Stephanie definitely had some heavy baggage from her past, and my heart broke for her as the painful details emerged. Her hot and cold behavior sometimes gave me whiplash, but she was so fiercely independent and guarded that I both admired her grit and felt sad for her. It was such a stark contrast to the happy go lucky, wear my heart on my sleeve Lucas. He may have started the book off as a manwhore, but it quickly became apparent that there was much more to the new Cold Fury player. Sure he made some mistakes along the way, but so did Stephanie and that's what made their relationship so relatable. Their connection is undeniable though and I loved their playful banter and chemistry. Will it be enough though to navigate the unexpected turn of events and convince Stephanie to let down her walls and give them a real chance at love? I'm excited that there's another Cold Fury book in the works, because mysterious Van has got me all kinds of curious! Add in my love for the Fournier family and the oldie but goodie best friend's little sister trope and I'm sold! Can't wait for more! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

My review title: I cheered on this couple's fall into love so hard! Writing style: Dual POVs Cover design: I prefer the Kindle cover with Lucas looking fresh out of the shower over the audiobook cover. Yum! Story Rating ★★★★1/2 I caught up on this series last year, so I was happy to finally dive back into it. Lucas may not have planned on settling down so soon in life, but I thought he embraced the consequences of a broken condom really well. Stephy was basically his polar opposite thanks to having super cold-hearted parents who treated her like a genetic obligation. Her parents’ attitude toward her didn’t change when she and Lucas informed her mother via a phone call that they’d be grandparents soon. Fortunately, Lucas’s parents and his siblings were more than up to the task to welcome Stephy and the Fournier baby-to-be into the fold. As Lucas and Stephy’s physical connection intensified, Stephy’s determination to remain emotionally and financially independent no matter what became a huge issue. Lucas, being the more emotionally healthy and brave one in their experimental relationship, finally put all his cards on the table. He made it clear he wanted to turn their casual relationship into a more meaningful one. Stephy took some time to come around of course, but I liked how their drama wasn’t too over the top and drawn out. It took an almost fatal accident to force a repair to their rift, but repair it they did. Some books just pull you in quickly and unexpectedly, and this was one of those books for me. In an odd way, I think the below internal reflection summarizes my connection to this surprisingly captivating 8th installment in the Cold Fury Hockey series. ‘There’s something chemical maybe. I’ve never had it with a woman before, but the minute I see her, I want to throw her down on the floor and dominate the hell out of her. I want to crawl into her body, punish her with my cock, and have her beg for more. And she does. Always. She’s equally matched to keep up with me, and in our downtime, she’s fun to be around. So yes…never been into monogamy, but if this is what I was missing, I’m kicking myself in the ass big time.’ಌ Lucas Coming up next: I dove into Van (Cold Hockey, #9) the very next day and already finished and reread it, boom!

This was one of those books where I was immediately all in because there was such a fantastic start to the story. I loved meeting Lucas and Stephanie and I was excited for everything to play out and get to know them. I loved learning all their ins and outs, found it entertaining to read, and enjoyed it all. Lucas and Stephanie were so fun and sweet. I loved their playfulness and flirting and their hot sexy times. I liked the situation that was presented to these two thanks to the little present Lucas left behind. I thought Lucas was amazing. I loved how patient and caring he was. I liked Stephanie a lot as well, she was strong and independent but she was also slightly frustrating and stubborn. I loved learning her history and got why she was the way she was, but I couldn't wait for her to get to her moment of clarity. I thought the writing was great and I enjoyed all the details and development. Lucas and Stephanie share a lot of ups and downs, a bit of drama, and I could feel that tension and emotion between them. Loved the first half, the second half was good but Stephanie was stressing me and tensions ran high and it started to feel a bit drawn out because of it. I was dying for my HEA! I like how it ended but it wrapped up a bit to quickly for me. As with every other book, I loved seeing the Cold Fury players and their significant others woven into the current story. It’s a great added element. I really liked meeting some new players as well. I'm extremely curious about Van and Simone and am excited for their story. This was an awesome, entertaining read full of ups and downs, tension, emotion, hotness, and love. All in all it was a great read and a wonderful addition to the Cold Fury series. Complimentary copy received for honest review.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I enjoy Sawyer Bennet, but I wasn't crazy about this book, and I normally like anything hockey. But I like upbeat books, and I don't know if it is just me, but I feel like lately there is just so much drama in these going on in these books, I mean I know that they are supposed to capture our interest, I get that but, buuuuut sometimes I feel that it is just a little too much drama, but hey that is just me. You can feel totally different, So it give it a chance, because it is not a bad, in no way, shape or form am I saying that it is, it is not, Sawyer never gives us a bad book, it was just not what I was looking for.

I love this series. I have read all of the books so far and although there is one that holds a very special place in my heart, this one is a close second, There is a lot going on in this story, hookups, family drama, pregnancy, sports, work and life balance, friendship, so so much love and sex. One thing, among many, that I enjoy about this series is that he me seem to be on board and ready for a commitment before the women and I enjoy that POV. Luke and Stephanie are one of my favorites couples.

I liked this book a lot. So far, I have enjoyed every book in this series so I went into this book with pretty high expectations and I am happy to say that they were met. Each book in this series has featured a member of the Cold Fury Hockey team but that is really where the similarities end. I am kind of amazed by how different each of these stories really are and I think that is why I still get excited when I learn about a new book being released. Lucas is the eighth book in the series but it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. The book focuses on Lucas and Stephanie. Their story has an unusual start since the book opens with them sharing a rather hot one-night stand. That one night stand leads to a more lasting situation. Lucas and Stephanie must figure out how they make things work out. It was really very interesting to see this pair get to know each other. Lucas was really the star of this book for me. He was so patient with Stephanie and seemed to instinctively know the right thing to say and do. He does have a couple of bonehead moments and there was a couple of times that I caught myself cringing because of him but these things made him seem a little more real. I am still trying to completely forgive him for one scene. Stephanie was a bit more frustrating. She really seems to have her act together but she is terribly afraid of getting close to anyone. She had a terrible childhood and it made sense that she would approach relationships with caution. I wanted so much for her to give Lucas a real chance and I couldn't help but get a bit frustrated, kind of like Lucas, when she resisted. I would recommend this book and series to others. Fans of the series will be happy to see quite a bit of the characters featured in Max since Lucas and Max are brothers. I can't wait to read the next book in this wonderful series! I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley.

Lucas is my FAVORITE of the Cold Fury series so far. Ms. Bennett wastes no time and immediately throws Lucas and Stephanie into the fire. Stephy was a tough nut to crack but once Luc did there was no turning back. During Luc and Stephanie’s book the ground work was laid for Van and Simone’s book. At first I was really mad that the epilogue was from Van’s POV because I NEEDED more of Lucas and Stephanie. They’re the first Cold Fury couple that needs another book!! I know we’ll see them again in Van’s book but it’s not the same. In the meantime I’ll be over here waiting (not so) patiently for November.

Lucas is the man everyone wants. He is considerate and actually understands what makes Stephanie tick. He may not handle it well, but he tries. These two have great chemistry together but struggle to see deeper into themselves. An accident is what it takes to search into the depth. On and off , I smiled and I cried. I loved this story and have been enjoying this series, and recommend both. I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

4 1/2 STARS! A hot and steamy read! When a one night stand leads to a baby, the games are suddenly over and things are getting real! The characters were fun to get to know and really easy to connect with. He was a sweetheart ... and he really hung in there trying to secretly love her through getting over her hang-ups in life. Really enjoyed their story and will look forward to more in the series! Lucas Fournier lives and breathes hockey and as the newest member of the Carolina Cold Fury, he looks forward to playing the best hockey of his NHL career right alongside his brother Max. He's living the life of exhilarating game play, head in the clouds stardom, and the power of getting laid any time he wants ... what more could a man want?? Museum curator Stephanie Frazier lives her life for herself in neat little columns so she can always feel in control. When she lays eyes on Luc at a charity gala at the museum, she figures "why not!" and sets out to have a fun filled night with the hottie ... what she doesn't expect is for the stick to turn positive a month later! She didn't have a great life growing up, so she isn't all that forthcoming with sharing her life, so when Luc steps up and decides to get to know the woman he's going to be raising a kid with, she better brace herself!

It's been a long time since I read Sawyer Bennett and I was a little nervous jumping into the Cold Fury series on Book 8 but I'm so glad that I did!! I didn't feel at all lost for not having read the books 1-7 but they have definitely been added to my TBR. When Lucas and Stephanie meet, the chemistry is off the charts. Neither wants anything more than one explosive night together. Lucas needs to focus on his new team and getting to the Stanley Cup. Stephanie just wants to focus on her job. Things don't turn out as planned and the rollercoaster relationship that follows kept me glued to the page, not able to go to sleep until I finished. I loved Stephanie's independence and intelligence. Being with a star is never easy but she handled everything thrown at her. Lucas was totally swoon worthy, changing everything about his previous plans to be with Stephanie. The ups kept me smiling and the downs had me shedding more than a few tears but I loved pretty much everything about this story. I can't wait to read the first seven books in this series and get to know everyone else from Cold Fury! *This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*

Another outstanding book from a favorite author.... Lucas is the kind of young man every mother wants to raise and every woman wants for the man in her life... Patient, loving, trustworthy and dedicated - to his job, his family and his "love"... I have read all the books in the series and each one is a favorite... Having finished this one I am going back to read MAX because I don't remember all the fine points of that one.... Even if you don't know about or care about hockey, these books are so terrific that it doesn't matter... Characters are so well developed and defined that the story could be about pitching horseshoes... Wonderful people you would like to have in your life... Next up is Van and Simone and that should be a Wowzer!!! Can't wait...

Lucas is another entertaining read from Sawyer Bennett in the Cold Fury Hockey series. I did have some issues with Lucas to some extent. He seemed immature for 27 at times and he was kind of a jackass at other times. However, he never went full jackass and he did mature when the situation demanded it. Overall, he was a believable character and I did like him and feel that Stephanie, our heroine, belonged with him. Stephanie was always a likable well written character. She was flawed but I was always sympathetic to her past and the struggles she carried with her into adulthood. She did her best with what she had and she also grew when the situation demanded it. By the end of the book I did believe that Lucas and Stephanie belonged together and were good for each other. I would recommend Lucas to any fan of contemporary romance.

A wonderfully sweet, sexy and heartfelt hockey romance that was captivating and fun to read. One of Lucas Fournier’s dream just came true, that is to play pro-hockey alongside his older brother Max. The only thing that could top that would be to win the cup. A goal that very much within the Cold Fury’s grasp as long as they make a concentrated effort to do so. That means Lucas needs to keep his focus on hockey and not the sexy museum curator who’s presented a much unexpected surprise. When Stephanie Frazier met Luc at a museum’s gala fundraiser and felt the attraction between them, she didn’t hesitate to act on it because what could be de harm in having a no strings attached fling with a very handsome and charismatic man? She’s not interested in a relationship and after one of the best and most passionate nights of her life, she only expected to see Luc on TV during his games. But life seldom turns out the way one expects and now their lives will be forever linked. Can Luc convince the relationship-adverse Stephanie that they belong together? Lucas was further along on my reading scheduled, but having a book by Sawyer Bennett in my eReader was super tempting. I just couldn’t wait to jump in and I’m so happy I did because I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s everything I love about romance, flirty, sexy and swoony with a dash of angst and definitely earnest with great pacing and solid writing. It’s a story about family and love. It’s about feeling completely alone in the world and unable to trust anyone else but yourself but finding that there are people and relationships worth holding onto and fighting for. Both Lucas and Stephanie are wonderfully flawed. They’re both young and inexperienced but are faced with a situation in which they need with maturity. I loved both of them equally. Even though Lucas wasn’t interested in a relationship when the story started, he’s a sweet alpha male with strong family values, deeming Max his best friend and chatting with mother before each game for good luck. Knowing that Stephanie would be a sexy fixture in his life, he doesn’t hesitate to pursue her with relentless patience and thoughtfulness. But because no one is perfect, Lucas has his own struggles. When I mention Stephanie are flawed I meant Stephanie is broken. I loved that she’s super strong and completely independent but had a childhood devoid of love which hindered her from seeking or even believing in it. It is heartbreakingly sad watching her become a part of the Fournier clan and not being able to accept their friendship and support easily. It is up to Lucas to break down the impenetrable walls that protect her heart and help her accept her new reality. It’s definitely a difficult journey for both but equally satisfying. I hurt for them, but mostly they made me laugh, smile and blush. Lucas is book #8 in the Cold Fury series by Sawyer Bennett. It is a sexy and touching story, it's a fast and easy to read standalone sports romance. A must for Cold Fury fans. Told from both points of view and has a happy ending.

I received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Having read several of the Cold Fury Hockey series, I am always more than ready to get back to the Carolina Cold Fury Hockey team and find out more about these ice skating hotties. It wasn't long and I was once again under Sawyer Bennett's writing spell and completely engrossed with her newest couple Lucas and Stephanie and all of the Fournier family. I never expected to bond so fiercely with this group of characters and was so sad when the last page was read. Lucas Fournier had me falling madly in love from the moment he has his one night stand with Stephanie that soon turns into so much more. He had my heart palpitating and melting all over the place with every word he uttered and every sexy move he made. I fell in love and lust with this hockey playboy turned family man. If there was ever a heroine created that could pierce my heart it is most definitely Stephanie Frazier. Sawyer brought tears to my eyes while reading all about Stephanie's painful past and learning what makes this woman the prickly, anti-social, suspicious person that she is. I just wanted to wrap Stephanie in my arms, hold her as tight as I can, and tell her everything is going to be okay. Stephi as Lucas called her is one of the most moving characters that Sawyer has ever penned..in my opinion. Sawyer Bennett delivers another soul teaching read that will have you falling for the hero and heroine and the whole Fournier family. I highly recommend Lucas for a leap into love that is sure to take your heart on one hell of a bumpy ride! Sawyer Bennett always entices me whether it is a group of gorgeous hockey players or sinful men ready to fulfill all of your fantasies. She keeps readers everywhere panting, sighing and fanning themselves from the beginning to the end of ALL of her amazing stories!

This is one of my favorite series to read and this book proves why. Once again Bennett hooks you with a storyline that you won't want to put down. Please don't be afraid to pick up this book if you're not a hockey fan. It's still a great read. Lucas and Stephanie are amazing. Can't wait for Van's book. Note, I was provided a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
