This is such a sweet, festive friends to more romance with Luke Harlow, a caring military veteran who is now a Marietta police officer, and Mary Best, a young reporter, as the main characters. Luke has returned to his home town to help raise his half-sister and it is with her that he is secretly playing Santa by giving amazing gifts to some of the local community who are in need. Mary is intrigued by Luke and wants to write about his heroic military service but the more she gets to know about this secretive young man the more the attraction between them grows. However, she's also on the trail to identify the secret Santa . . . . something Luke definitely doesn't want. Can he keep his secret? What will Mary do if she discovers it is him? Can he trust her with his heart and his secret? Which is more important to Mary - her job or love? This is a delightful addition to the Marietta romances, and a cute, fun read. As someone who always enjoys reading stories set in this community it seemed strange not to have some of the iconic Christmas events included in the story but that will only be of concern to folks like me who regularly read stories in this setting. It is still an enjoyable story with great characters, an added mystery element and plenty of secrets in this festive read, just right for getting you in the mood for a caring Christmas! I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley. This review is my honest opinion after choosing to read the book.

I love Marietta, Montana! It is my adopted hometown. I have no problem that this town is not real because to me and so many others this town feels real. And one of the reasons that it does is because of authors like Kaylie Newell and her latest book Luke's Gift. Luke is one of 3 brothers who have come home to help raise their half sister after the death of their mom. This is the second book in the Harlow series and I have to say one that had me with feel good goose bumps throughout the entire book. Ex Military man, now police officer comes back to town and with the help of his 14 year old step sister who I got to know in Tanner's Promise they arrange to be "Secret Santa" for the town. While he is planning this Mary the one of the town's reporters decides to get to know him better and write an article on the Hometown Hero. But more that that Mary and Luke have sparks that sizzle between them. You really should read both books but its not necessary to enjoy this one. I can not express how much I love this town and this family, The Harlows. I invite you to not only spend Christmas in Marietta but consider being a Secret Santa yourself if possible this year. You don't have to do something big... Something little might touch some one just as much.

Set in one of my favorite little town's in Montana, this was a great, quick read and made me remember why I love Marietta and Copper Mountain so much. Luke Harlow is home from 3 tours in Afghanistan and now a local police officer. Mary Best is a reporter for the local news paper, part of her wants to go to NY and do bigger things like her friends form college yet she is set here at home. Especially after she meets Luke who comes to answer a call at the paper dealing with an unhappy customer. Luke notices Mary too. His brother Tanner looks after their younger sister Maddie and owns his own business as well. When Luke decides to play secret Santa to some needy folks in town, and this man is totally stealth in his work, the whole town in abuzz and it sets off Mary's need to dig deeper. Mary's father was the Sheriff and because of that, and having in drilled into her head by her distrusting father, doesn't trust easily and is always skeptical of others. Not just men. Luke's family life was a mess and it's no secret that his mother was well known around town. Didn't give the boys much of a chance. Mary has that to overcome with Luke especially when their relationship starts to grow deeper. Christmas is right around the corner and things quickly heat up with Mary and Luke. Luke is still trying to find his footing with being home after leaving town when he was 18 and spending that time overseas. Mary works late one night and sees Luke out driving when he said he was going home to bed. What happens after that? You have to read the book. What a well woven story with characters that are nicely developed and I'd love to see more of them. I'll be waiting for the next book in the series. I loved this.

This sweet small town romance was a great holiday read. Luke Harlow is back in Marietta after his military career ends. Mary Best is a reporter wanting to write a story about Luke's heroic military service. After spending time with Luke and really getting to know him Mary is certain she may have stumbled upon an even better story. Will Mary spill Luke's secret? This was a very enjoyable read and one I highly recommend.

A must read this holiday season. Luke has returned home after leaving his military career. He is now a police officer in Marietta. Mary is a local reporter f the town newspaper, wanting to do a story on the home town hero, which Luke does not believe he is one. As Luke and Mary get to know each other, their friendship develops into so much more. Luke is keeping a secret though, but soon the talk around town id , who is the Secret Santa. Luke is one of my all time favorite book boyfriends. He has such a big heart, from being the big brother to his half sister, Maddie, being the Secret Santa and helping Mary decorate sugar cookies. Loved the slow development of the relationship of Mary and Luke, so perfect for each other. With some many holiday traditions in Marietta, I wish it was a real town. I highly recommend this wonderful Christmas story. Can't wait for the next story.

This holiday romance is a charming and delightful read that would make the Grinch’s heart swell to 100 times in normal size with Christmas spirit. Luke and Mary are two strong, captivating characters that easily draw readers to them as they become caught up in a romance that proves that opposites attract. They both have some emotional issues that readers can’t help but understand to overcome if they want to achieve that happily ever after. The story is fast paced and bit too short, but is full of everything that makes a romance and everything that stands for the true meaning of Christmas which delights readers while Luke, who may just be too good to be true inspires warmth and love throughout the story.

The thing that keeps coming back to me after having read Luke’s Gift is that the story was amazingly realistic. The dialogue, the inner issues, the conflicts, the romance, it all read true to life. The main characters struggle with trust and commitment issues and were portrayed naturally. This is a story of a couple just meeting and the author portrays this new relationship wonderfully through their actions and dialogue. You get to see them dating, getting to know each other, the stubbornness of not willing to full-out commit. There are secrets, distrusts, and an attraction neither are able to deny. The preteen sister Maddie is a force to be reckon with. The loving sibling bond between her and Luke got me. Christmas magic in Marietta is on display in this story. You have the must have/required settings for Christmas stories set in Marietta: Sage’s Cooper Mountain Chocolate Shop, Christmas lights on Bramble Lane, Scott Farm for Christmas trees, the Graff Hotel, and people coming together to help one of their own. I have not read book 1, Tanner’s Promise, but will take care of that very soon. I’m eagerly waiting for book 3, Judd’s story, and hoping it will pair him with Mary’s friend, Savannah. A wonderful Christmas read, or a read for anytime of the year. Newell consistency delivers meaningful, realistic relationships. ARC received from Tule Publishing via Netgalley

Sometimes not knowing can be a blessing and a curse, or at least that is what Mary is faced with when she seeks with the towns help to find out who the Christmas Santa is. I loved the story and the meaning behind this story it was completely heartfelt and it easily put you in the Christmas spirit. I also loved how the author didn't make Christmas all commercialized but showed the heart of Christmas in this story. I loved Maddie when ever she appeared in the story she was a force to recon with, to me her personality just jumped off the pages. This book was a super quick read and so fun to read. I think the only thing I was not a fan of was all the strong language I could have gone with out, but to each his own. I will say this I did not read the first book in this series but I plan on going back to just to read about Tanner's story. If you are looking for a fun read to put you in the Christmas spirit this book will not disappoint you at all. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
