Once upon a time a wonderful man wrote a book about Army surgeons working in some of the sorts conditions during the Korean Conflict and making the best of it. H. Richard Hornberger (under the nom de plume of Richard Hooker) was a surgeon and knew his subject very well. It was a good book and a fantastic movie.
