About the Author

H. Richard Hornberger (1924 – 1997) was an American writer and surgeon who wrote under the pseudonym Richard Hooker. His most famous work was the novel "M*A*S*H" (1968), based on his experiences during the Korean War and written in collaboration with W. C. Heinz. His experiences at the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital—MASH—were the background for his novel he worked on for eleven years. MASH was rejected by many publishers. He worked with the famed sportswriter, W.C. Heinz, to revise it. A year later, the book was acquired by William Morrow and Company, and was Published under Hornberger's pseudonym, Richard Hooker. The novel was highly successful.

Hornberger wrote the sequels to MASH, "M*A*S*H Goes to Maine" (1972) and "M*A*S*H Mania" (1977), neither of which enjoyed the commercial success of the original. While MASH was a fairly faithful reflection of Hornberger's service in Korea, his sequels were diverse representations of the "Swamp Gang's" post-Korea activities in the fictional town of Spruce Harbor, Maine.

Thomas Hudson fell in love with the movie M*A*S*H when it first came out and has watched it at least fifteen times. He also listened to the LP of the movie so many times the grooves began to wear out. He read each of the short stories Hooker published in Playboy that became the "M*A*S*H Goes to Maine" book and has read that book at least eight times.

He also has read the other M*A*S*H books and knows the difference between Hooker's gentle humor and the "Butterworth" books that mostly fall short.

He writes many things in the world of young inventor, Tom Swift, and about that man's family and the people he works with. Most of his books may be found in published book and electronic formats.
