About the Author

GLYNNIS CAMPBELL is a USA Today bestselling author of swashbuckling action-adventure historical romances set in Scotland, England, and the American West, with over a dozen books published in six languages. Her books appear in several multi-author boxed sets with such esteemed talents as Bella Andre, Marie Force, Tanya Anne Crosby, Lauren Royal, Kathryn Le Veque, Eliza Knight, and Claire Delacroix. Writing from her California home, she loves playing medieval matchmaker and transporting readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is alive and well!

Story was pleasant enough but yeah, the seduction scenes were over done and too many in number. After first one, skimmed the rest to get pn with the book

Dear Ms. Campbell.... why haven't I found your wonderful books long before this???!!! This exciting tale between Florie and Rane was so enthralling and full of detail that I read it deep into the night. The story brings together two unlikely characters and creates a piece of art. Florie is trying to seek assylum in the santuary of the church and Rane, the hunter who has accidently shot her and who is so honerable and (sigh) hunky, ends up winning this woman's heart. I love the Viking chess game the most and her carvings add to the visual richness the reader gets to picture in their own minds. I loved it. My advise to the reader is just jump in and enjoy! As others have said, the author was very long-winded and there were too many similes. One reference to the fire being a dragon sufficed. It felt at times that Glynnis was trying too hard to beat her concepts into the reader's head. I also agree that having non-noble characters made a delightful change. The characters were drawn well, but I do find myself wondering about the reasons behind Mavis's desperation to get the pomander.

This was a refreshing change from the typical historical romance novel characters involving the noble class. The main characters are a huntsman, a female goldsmith, and a blind priest.

Could not finish. Too drawn out and seduction scenes were boring, not compelling.
