Overview

“A fresh, exciting voice who knows how to stir a reader’s blood.”–Romantic Times BOOKClub

A woman with a taste for adventure...a man who knows how to satisfy her hunger. The chef to Queen Mary cooks up fiery romance with a spirited Scottish minstrel at the most controversial banquet in Tudor history.

Tristan MacKenzie, a brilliant chef in the royal household, plans to impress Queen Mary at the baptism feast for her infant son, until an intrepid minstrel, Mery Graham, arrives to stir the pot. A woman's place is definitely not in the kitchen, but daring Mery isn't intimidated by the handsome chef who's whetted her appetite for romance. Mery's impetuousness becomes a recipe for disaster as she begins to fall in love and out of wanderlust. And when insatiable curiosity lands her in the middle of a plot to assassinate the prince, Tristan must risk his life and his future–leaping from the frying pan into the fire–to save the sassy lass who has stolen his heart.

Glynnis Campbell has the perfect recipe for delight in this (true to the event) 1566 romance between soprano singer Mery and cook-to-the-Queen Tristen during the baptism of the prince in Stirling Castle. I just love stories where I can look up information about the time and place and even what clothing people wore at that time which is exactly what I did during the reading if this wonderful work. The madrigal events were enthralling and spot on and the charaters and plots had me turning pages like wildfire. Although there was quite a bit of referrence to food, which at times may have gotten redundant, and overly descriptive, I enjoyed the captivating romance, the almost instant love the two characters had for each other, (although I swear I wanted to reach into the book and slap Mery upside her head a few times for being so darn stupid...making the same mistakes over and over) and the true events of the time period. This was a great trillogy of books and I am glad I found them! from Marianne C in WV

Loved this one. You also get to catch up on the others in the series. I liked the character development and the stories from the Stirling kitchens. Lots of bone melting romance
