This story by Jess Russell took you right into the story . It just grabbed you and sucked you right into the doorway. . Hero is James (The Marquee) Heroine is Ann. Now about the story . Ann arrived in Scotland into a castle that housed Crazy and Deranged people. She just saw James into the hallway trying to run from people. He was laughing having a time of his life . It was almost like a game to him . James was committed by his father the Duke . James like to debacle the females . He was like a regular guy into the Era with power . Drinking , gambling and you don't read a lot about it but drugs . He was caught into a compromising situation, over a dead girls body . He doesn't remember the incident. His father the Duke committed James . If he improved he would only be committed for a yr . If not he's in it for live . Ann saw him going over the balcony trying to jump ( not really he was playing with the staff . Ann screamed out "NO" and James looked at her . He was memorized. James knew she was also . Now James is wondering what to do ... does he use Ann to get out ??? Or does he get committed. Is someone out to frame James with the murder and take him out of the picture for good Grab it and go back into an Era that is different than ours

I really liked this historical read. James has been sent to Ballencrieff after he is found covered in blood with a dead girl. He has one year to recover his memories or he will be committed forever. Anne has the gift of healing and is the nurse and companion to James. Someone seems to want James locked up forever can they discover who is it or is he destined to remain the Mad Marques? The story really draws you in and the characters are amazing. James and Anne have amazing chemistry and their journey is a bit dark, drama filled. A very entertaining read.

I was really surprised by this story, first of all it is not your usual run of the mill romance. James Henry Nathanial drake, Marques of Devlin, was sent to a rich mental asylum (Ballencreif) by his father. Anne DeVere Winton was an orphan, and went to a poor school because no one knew who she was. She goes to Ballencreif to serve her contract and hopefully help heal. This is a very complex tale of emotion, cruelty, death and still have the ability to have friendship, and laughter. I don't know how the author did it, but she wrote one superior book. The characters are marvelous and some are very endearing. The plot takes all the twist and turns and makes them logical and keeps you focused on this very immersive story and there are a couple of surprises. She handles the delicate subject of mental illness with her expertise and knowledge of the late 1800's. I loved this book and am glad I got a chance to read it. It deserves the highest recommendation. I received this book from Net Galley and this is my voluntary review

My genre of choice is romance and although I enjoy all types, my preference has always been historical. Mad for the Marquess is definitely historical. However, Ms. Russell takes a darker direction with her tale. Conspiracy, murder, danger and intrigue are always a haunting combination, but from within the depths of tragedy and despair, something beautiful grows. A love that knows no bounds and will risk everything to conquer the evil. Devlin and Anne light the spark that ignites the flame to burn through the hopelessness that is intent on keeping them apart. Their love singes through the obstacles and empowers their faith as it slowly thawed this reader's heart.
